நீதிமொழிகள் 23
1 ஒரு ஆளுநருடன் உணவு சாப்பிட உட்காரும்போது, உனக்குமுன் இருப்பவற்றை நன்றாகக் கவனித்துப்பார்.
When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:
2 நீ உணவுப் பிரியனாயிருந்தால், உன் தொண்டையில் கத்தி இருப்பதாக நினைத்துக்கொள்.
For thou puttest a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man of a craving desire.
3 அவனுடைய சுவைமிக்க உணவுகளில் ஆசைப்படாதே; அது உன்னை ஏமாற்றக்கூடும்.
Do not long for his savory meats; they are deceitful food.
4 நீ செல்வந்தனாகும்படி உன்னை வருத்தாதே; உன் புத்திசாலித்தனத்தை நம்பாதே.
Fatigue thyself not to become rich; because thou hast understanding, forbear.
5 கண் இமைக்கும் நேரத்தில் செல்வம் மறைந்துவிடும், அவை இறக்கைகள் முளைத்து, கழுகுபோல் ஆகாயத்தில் பறந்துவிடும்.
When thou lettest merely thy eyes fly over it, it is no more: for it will ever make itself wings: like an eagle will it fly toward heaven.
6 கஞ்சத்தனமுள்ளவர்களுடைய உணவைச் சாப்பிடாதே, அவர்களுடைய சுவைமிக்க உணவுகளில் ஆசைப்படாதே;
Eat not the bread of a man with an evil eye, and do not long for his savory meats;
7 ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் எப்பொழுதும் எவ்வளவு செலவு செய்கிறார்களென்று சிந்திக்கிறார்கள். “சாப்பிடுங்கள், குடியுங்கள்” என்று அவர்கள் உனக்குச் சொல்வார்கள்; ஆனால் அவர்கள் அதை மனதாரச் சொல்லவில்லை.
For as though there were a division in his soul, so doth he act: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
8 நீ சாப்பிட்ட கொஞ்சத்தையும் வாந்தியெடுக்க நேரிடும், நீ அவர்களைப் பாராட்டிய வார்த்தைகளும் வீணாய்ப் போகும்.
Thy morsel which thou hast eaten must thou spit out, and thou hast wasted thy pleasant words.
9 நீ மூடர்களுடன் பேசாதே, ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் உன் ஞானமான வார்த்தைகளை ஏளனம் செய்வார்கள்.
Speak not before the ears of a fool; for he will despise the intelligence of thy words.
10 பூர்வகால எல்லைக் கல்லை நகர்த்தாதே; தந்தையற்றவர்களின் நிலங்களை கொஞ்சம் கொஞ்சமாக அபகரித்துக்கொள்ளாதே.
Remove not the ancient landmark, and into the fields of the fatherless must thou not enter;
11 ஏனெனில் அவர்களை பாதுகாக்கிறவர் வல்லவர்; அவர் உனக்கெதிராக அவர்கள் சார்பாக வழக்காடுவார்.
For their redeemer is strong; he will indeed plead their cause with thee.
12 நீ அறிவுறுத்தலுக்கு உன் இருதயத்தைச் சாய்; அறிவுள்ள வார்த்தைகளுக்கு செவிகொடு.
Apply thy heart unto instruction, and thy ears to the sayings of knowledge.
13 பிள்ளையைத் தண்டித்துத் திருத்தாமல் விடாதே; அவர்களைப் பிரம்பினால் தண்டித்தால், அவர்கள் சாகமாட்டார்கள்.
Withhold not from a lad correction; for if thou beat him with the rod, he will not die.
Thou wilt indeed beat him with the rod; but thou wilt deliver his soul from perdition. (Sheol h7585)
15 என் மகனே, உன் இருதயம் ஞானமுள்ளதாயிருந்தால், உண்மையில் என் இருதயம் மகிழ்ச்சியடையும்;
My son, If thy heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.
16 உனது உதடுகள் நீதியானவற்றைப் பேசும்போது, என் உள்ளம் மகிழும்.
And my reins shall exult when thy lips speak what is equitable.
17 நீ உன் இருதயத்தைப் பாவிகள்மேல் பொறாமைகொள்ள விடாதே, எப்பொழுதும் யெகோவாவுக்குப் பயந்து நடக்க வைராக்கியமாயிரு.
Let not thy heart be envious against sinners; but [remain] in the fear of the lord all the time.
18 அப்பொழுது உனக்கு எதிர்கால நம்பிக்கை நிச்சயமாகவே உண்டு, உனது எதிர்பார்ப்பும் வீண்போகாது.
For surely there is a future, and thy hope will not be cut off.
19 என் மகனே, சொல்வதைக் கவனமாய்க் கேட்டு ஞானமுள்ளவனாயிரு, உன் இருதயத்தைச் சரியான பாதையில் பதித்துக்கொள்:
Hear thou, my son, and become wise, and guide thy heart on the right way.
20 திராட்சை மதுவைக் குடிப்பவர்களோடும், மாம்சப் பெருந்தீனிக்காரரோடும் நீ சேராதே.
Be not among those that drink wine immoderately, among those that over-indulge in eating flesh:
21 ஏனெனில் குடிகாரர்களும், உணவுப்பிரியர்களும் ஏழைகள் ஆவார்கள்; போதை மயக்கம் அவர்களுக்குக் கந்தைத் துணிகளையே உடுத்துவிக்கும்.
For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty; and drowsiness clotheth a man in rags.
22 உனக்கு வாழ்வு கொடுத்த உன் தந்தைக்குச் செவிகொடு; உன் தாய் வயது சென்றவளாயிருக்கும்போது அவளை இழிவாகக் கருதாதே.
Hearken unto thy father that hath begotten thee, and despise not thy mother although she be old.
23 சத்தியத்தை வாங்கு, அதை விற்காதே; ஞானத்தையும், அறிவுரையையும், மெய்யறிவையும் பெற்றுக்கொள்.
Buy the truth and sell it not; [also] wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
24 நீதிமானாகிய பிள்ளையின் தந்தை பெருமகிழ்ச்சியடைகிறான்; ஞானமுள்ள பிள்ளையை உடையவன் அதில் சந்தோஷப்படுகிறான்.
The father of the righteous will be greatly glad, and he that begetteth a wise child will have joy through him.
25 உன் தந்தையும் தாயும் மகிழ்ந்திருப்பார்களாக; உன்னைப் பெற்றவள் பெருமகிழ்ச்சியடைவாளாக!
Let [then] thy father and thy mother rejoice, and let her that hath born thee be glad.
26 என் மகனே, உன் இருதயத்தை எனக்குக் கொடு; உன் கண்கள் என் வழிகளைப் பின்பற்றுவதில் மகிழட்டும்.
Give, my son, thy heart unto me, and let thy eyes watch my ways.
27 ஏனெனில் விபசாரி ஒரு ஆழமான படுகுழி; ஒழுக்கங்கெட்ட மனைவி மிக ஒடுக்கமான கிணறு.
For a harlot is a deep ditch, and a strange woman is a narrow well.
28 அவள் ஒரு கொள்ளைக்காரனைப்போல் பதுங்கிக் காத்திருக்கிறாள்; மனிதர்களுக்குள் உண்மையற்றவர்களைப் பெருகப்பண்ணுகிறாள்.
She also lieth in wait like a robber, and she increaseth the treacherous among men.
29 யாருக்கு வேதனை? யாருக்குத் துயரம்? யாருக்கு சண்டை? யாருக்கு பிதற்றுதல்? யாருக்குத் தேவையற்ற காயங்கள்? யாருக்கு இரத்தச் சிவப்பான கண்கள்?
Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath quarrels? who hath complaints? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
30 திராட்சைமது குடிப்பதிலேயே நேரத்தைக் கழிப்பவர்களுக்கும், எப்பொழுதும் கலப்பு மதுவைத் தேடித் திரிபவர்களுக்குமே.
They that tarry late over the wine: they that come to seek for mixed drink.
31 மது சிவப்பாய் இருக்கும்போதும், கிண்ணத்தில் பளபளக்கும் போதும் அதைப் பார்த்து மகிழாதே; அது மிருதுவாய் இறங்கும்போதும் மகிழ்ச்சி கொள்ளாதே!
Do not look on the wine when it looketh red, when it giveth its color in the cup, when it glideth down so readily.
32 முடிவில் அது பாம்பைப்போல் கடிக்கும்; விரியன் பாம்பைப்போல் நஞ்சைக் கக்கும்.
At the last it will bite like a serpent, and like a basilisk will it sting.
33 அப்பொழுது உனது கண்கள் விசித்திரமான காட்சிகளைக் காணும், உனது மனம் குழப்பமானவற்றைக் கற்பனை செய்யும்.
Thy eyes will see strange forms, and thy heart will speak perverse things.
34 நீ நடுக்கடலின்மேல் படுத்திருப்பவனைப் போலவும், கப்பலின் பாய்மரத்தில் படுத்து நித்திரை செய்பவனைப்போலவும் உணருவாய்.
And thou wilt be like one that lieth down in the heart of the sea, or as he that lieth on the top of a mast.
35 “அவர்கள் என்னை அடித்தார்கள், எனக்கு நோகவில்லை! அவர்கள் என்னைத் தாக்கினார்கள், நான் அதை உணரவில்லை! இன்னும் ஒருமுறை குடிப்பதற்கு நான் எப்பொழுது எழும்புவேன்?” என்று நீ சொல்வாய்.
“They smote me, [but] I suffered no pain; they struck me hard, [but] I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will continue to seek it again.”
