நீதிமொழிகள் 18
1 நட்புணர்வு இல்லாதவர்கள் சுயநலத்தையே தேடுகிறார்கள், அவர்கள் எல்லாவித சரியான நிதானிப்புகளையும் எதிர்த்து விவாதிக்கிறார்கள்.
A man who wishes to separate from friends seeks excuses; but at all times he will be liable to reproach.
2 மூடர்கள் விளங்கிக்கொள்வதில் மகிழ்ச்சி கொள்வதில்லை, ஆனால் தங்கள் சொந்த அபிப்பிராயங்களை வெளிப்படுத்துவதில் மட்டும் பெருமகிழ்ச்சியடைகிறார்கள்.
A senseless man feels no need of wisdom, for he is rather led by folly.
3 கொடுமை வரும்போது அவமதிப்பும் வரும், வெட்கத்துடன் அவமானமும் வரும்.
When an ungodly man comes into a depth of evils, he despises [them]; but dishonour and reproach come upon him.
4 வாயின் வார்த்தைகள் ஆழமான கடல், ஆனால் ஞானத்தின் ஊற்று பாய்ந்தோடும் நீரோடை.
A word in the heart of a man is a deep water, and a river and fountain of life spring forth.
5 கொடியவர்களுக்கு பாரபட்சம் காட்டுவதும், குற்றமில்லாதவர்களுக்கு நீதியை வழங்க மறுப்பதும் நல்லதல்ல.
[It is] not good to accept the person of the ungodly, nor [is it] holy to pervert justice in judgment.
6 மதியீனர்கள் பேச ஆரம்பித்தால் வாக்குவாதம் பிறக்கும், அவர்களுடைய வாயே அடிவாங்க வைக்கும்.
The lips of a fool bring [him] into troubles, and his bold mouth calls for death.
7 மதியீனருடைய வாய் அவர்களுக்கு அழிவு; அவர்களுடைய உதடுகளோ அவர்களுடைய வாழ்விற்கு கண்ணி.
A fool's mouth is ruin to him, and his lips are a snare to his soul.
8 புறங்கூறுகிறவர்களின் வார்த்தைகள் சுவையான உணவைப் போன்றவை; அவை மனிதருடைய உள்ளத்தின் ஆழத்தில் பதிந்துவிடும்.
Fear casts down the slothful; and the souls of the effeminate shall hunger.
9 தன்னுடைய வேலையில் சோம்பலாய் இருப்பவன் அழிப்பவனுக்குச் சகோதரன்.
A man who helps not himself by his labour is brother of him that ruins himself.
10 யெகோவாவினுடைய பெயர் பலமான கோபுரம்; நீதிமான்கள் அதற்குள் ஓடி பாதுகாப்பாய் இருப்பார்கள்.
The name of the Lord is of great strength; and the righteous running to it are exalted.
11 பணக்காரர்களின் செல்வம் அவர்களுடைய அரணான பட்டணம்; அதை அவர்கள் பாதுகாப்பான சுவரென்று எண்ணுகிறார்கள்.
The wealth of a rich man is a strong city; and its glory casts a broad shadow.
12 வீழ்ச்சிக்கு முன்னால் இருதயம் பெருமையடைகிறது, ஆனால் மேன்மைக்கு முன்பு மனத்தாழ்மை வருகிறது.
Before ruin a man's heart is exalted, and before honour it is humble.
13 கவனித்துக் கேட்குமுன் பதில் சொல்வது, முட்டாள்தனமாகவும் வெட்கமாகவும் இருக்கும்.
Whoso answers a word before he hears [a cause], it is folly and reproach to him.
14 மனவலிமையால் நோயுற்ற உடலைத் தாங்கமுடியும்; மனம் உடைந்தால் யாரால் சகிக்கமுடியும்?
A wise servant calms a man's anger; but who can endure a faint-hearted man?
15 பகுத்தறியும் இருதயம் அறிவைச் சம்பாதிக்கிறது; ஞானமுள்ளவர்களின் காதுகள் அறிவை நாடும்.
The heart of the sensible [man] purchases discretion; and the ears of the wise seek understanding.
16 அன்பளிப்பு அதைக் கொடுப்பவர்களுக்கு வழி திறக்கிறது; அது அவர்களை உயர்ந்தோருக்கு முன்பாகக் கொண்டுவருகிறது.
A man's gift enlarges him, and seats him among princes.
17 வழக்கில் எதிரி வந்து விசாரணை செய்யும் வரையே முதலில் பேசுபவர்கள் நியாயமானவர்கள்போல் காணப்படுவார்கள்.
A righteous man accuses himself at the beginning of his speech, but when he has entered upon the attack, the adversary is reproved.
18 சீட்டுப்போடுதல் சச்சரவுகளைத் தீர்க்கும், வலுவான எதிரிகளுக்கு இடையில் அது சிக்கலைத் தீர்க்கும்.
A silent [man] quells strifes, and determines between great powers.
19 அரண்சூழ்ந்த பட்டணத்தைக் கைப்பற்றுவதைப் பார்க்கிலும், மனதைப் புண்படுத்திய சகோதரனை சமாதானப்படுத்துவது கடினம்; விவாதங்கள் தாழ்ப்பாள் இடப்பட்ட கோட்டை வாசலைப் போலிருக்கின்றன.
A brother helped by a brother is as a strong and high city; and is [as] strong as a [well]-founded palace.
20 அவரவர் வாயின் பலனால் அவர்களுடைய வயிறு நிரம்பும்; அவர்களின் உதட்டின் வார்த்தைகளால் அவர்கள் திருப்தியடையலாம்.
A man fills his belly with the fruits of his mouth; and he shall be satisfied with the fruits of his lips.
21 வாழ்வும் சாவும் நாவின் சொற்களில் இருக்கிறது; நற்சொற்களை நேசிப்பவர்கள் அதின் பலனைச் சாப்பிடுவார்கள்.
Life and death are in the power of the tongue; and they that rule it shall eat the fruits thereof.
22 மனைவியைப் பெறுகிறவன் நன்மையைப் பெற்றுக்கொள்கிறான்; அவன் யெகோவாவிடத்தில் தயவையும் பெறுவான்.
He that has found a good wife has found favours, and has received gladness from God. [He that puts away a good wife, puts away a ] [good thing, and he that keeps an adulteress is foolish and ungodly.]
23 ஏழைகள் இரக்கத்திற்காக கெஞ்சுகிறார்கள்; ஆனால் பணக்காரர்களோ கடுமையாகப் பதிலளிக்கிறார்கள்.
24 நம்பக்கூடாத நண்பர்கள் விரைவில் அழிவைக் கொண்டுவருவார்கள்; ஆனால் சகோதரனைவிட நெருங்கிய நண்பரும் உண்டு.
