லூக்கா 14

1 ஒரு ஓய்வுநாளிலே, பரிசேயரின் தலைவன் ஒருவனுடைய வீட்டிலே, சாப்பிடுவதற்கு இயேசு போயிருந்தார். எல்லோரும் இயேசுவைக் கூர்ந்து கவனித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

On one occasion, as Jesus was going, on a Sabbath into the house of one of the leading Pharisees to dine, they were watching him closely.

2 அங்கே அவருக்கு முன்பாக, நீர்க்கோவை வியாதியினால் துன்பப்பட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்த ஒருவன் இருந்தான்.

There he saw before him a man who was suffering from dropsy.

3 இயேசு பரிசேயரையும் மோசேயின் சட்ட அறிஞரையும் பார்த்து, “ஓய்வுநாளில் குணப்படுத்துவது மோசேயின் சட்டத்திற்கு ஏற்றதா, இல்லையா?” என்று கேட்டார்.

‘Is it allowable,’ said Jesus, addressing the students of the Law and the Pharisees, ‘to work a cure on the Sabbath, or is it not?’

4 அவர்களோ ஒன்றும் பேசாதிருந்தார்கள். எனவே, இயேசு அவன் கையை பிடித்து குணமாக்கி அனுப்பிவிட்டார்.

They remained silent. Jesus took hold of the man and cured him, and sent him away.

5 அப்பொழுது இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “உங்களில் ஒருவனுடைய மகனோ, மாடோ ஓய்வுநாளிலே கிணற்றில் விழுந்தால், உடனே நீங்கள் அவனையோ, மாட்டையோ வெளியே தூக்கிவிடமாட்டீர்களா?” என்று கேட்டார்.

And he said to them, ‘Which of you, finding that your son or your ox has fallen into a well, will not immediately pull them out on the Sabbath day?’

6 அவர்களோ ஒன்றும் பேசாமல் இருந்தார்கள்.

And they could not make any answer to that.

7 சாப்பாட்டு பந்தியிலே விருந்தாளிகள் முதன்மையான இடங்களைத் தேடியதை இயேசு கவனித்து, அவர்களிடம் இந்த உவமையைச் சொன்னார்:

Observing that the guests were choosing the best places for themselves, Jesus told them this parable –

8 “யாராவது உங்களை திருமண விருந்துக்கு அழைக்கும்போது, முதன்மையான இடத்தில் போய் உட்கார வேண்டாம். ஏனெனில், உங்களைவிட மதிப்புக்குரிய வேறொருவரும் அழைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கலாம்.

‘When you are invited by anyone to a wedding banquet, do not seat yourself in the best place. Someone of higher rank might have been invited by your host;

9 எனவே, உங்கள் இருவரையும் அழைத்தவன் உன்னிடத்தில் வந்து, ‘நீ உட்கார்ந்திருக்கும் இடத்தை, இவருக்குக் கொடு’ என்று உனக்குச் சொல்லக்கூடும். அப்பொழுது நீ வெட்கமடைந்தவனாய், கடைசி இடத்திற்கு போய் உட்கார நேரிடும்.

and the host who invited you both will come and say to you “Make room for this person,” and then you will begin in confusion to take the lowest place.

10 ஆகவே, உங்களை யாராவது அழைக்கும்போது, கடைசி இடத்தில் உட்கார்ந்து கொள்ளுங்கள். அப்பொழுது உங்களை அழைத்தவன் உன்னிடம் வந்து, ‘நண்பனே, உயர்வான இடத்தில் வந்து உட்கார்ந்துகொள்’ என்று சொல்வான். அப்பொழுது உன்னுடன்கூட வந்திருக்கும் எல்லா விருந்தாளிகளின் முன்னிலையிலும் நீ மதிப்பைப் பெறுவாய்.

No, when you are invited, go and take the lowest place, so that, when the host who has invited you comes, he may say to you “Friend, come higher up”; and then you will be honoured in the eyes of all your fellow guests.

11 ஏனெனில், தன்னைத்தான் உயர்த்துகிற எவனும் தாழ்த்தப்படுவான், தன்னைத்தான் தாழ்த்துகிறவன் உயர்த்தப்படுவான்” என்றார்.

For everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and everyone who humbles themselves will be exalted.’

12 பின்பு இயேசு தம்மை அழைத்தவனிடம், “நீ ஒரு மத்தியான உணவையோ, இரவு உணவையோ கொடுக்கும்போது, உனது நண்பர்களையோ, சகோதரர்களையோ, உறவினர்களையோ, அல்லது செல்வந்தர்களான உன் அயலவரையோ அழைக்கவேண்டாம்; அப்படி நீ அழைத்தால், அவர்களும் உன்னைத் திரும்ப அழைப்பார்கள். இவ்விதமாய், அவர்கள் உனக்குப் பதில் உதவி செய்துவிடுவார்கள்.

Then Jesus went on to say to the man who had invited him, ‘When you give a breakfast or a dinner, do not ask your friends, or your brothers or sisters, or your relatives, or rich neighbours, because they might invite you in return, and so you should be repaid.

13 எனவே, நீ ஒரு விருந்தைக் கொடுக்கும்போது, ஏழைகளையும், உடல் ஊனமுற்றோரையும், கால் ஊனமுற்றோரையும், பார்வையற்றோரையும் அழைப்பாயாக;

No, when you entertain, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind;

14 அப்பொழுது நீ ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்படுவாய். அவர்களால், அதற்கான பதில் உதவி எதையும் உனக்குச் செய்யமுடியாது. ஆனால், நீ நீதிமான்களின் உயிர்த்தெழுதலில் அதற்கான பதில் உதவியைப் பெற்றுக்கொள்வாய்” என்றார்.

and then you will be happy indeed, since they cannot reward you; for you will be rewarded at the resurrection of the just.’

15 இதைக் கேட்டபோது, இயேசுவோடு பந்தியில் உட்கார்ந்திருந்தவர்களில் ஒருவன் இயேசுவிடம், “இறைவனுடைய அரசின் விருந்தில் சாப்பிடுகிறவன் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்பட்டவன்” என்றான்.

One of the guests heard what he said and exclaimed, ‘Happy will be the person who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!’

16 இயேசு அதற்கு மறுமொழியாக சொன்னதாவது: “ஒருவன் பெரிய விருந்து ஒன்றை ஆயத்தப்படுத்தி, பல விருந்தினர்களை அழைத்திருந்தான்.

But Jesus said to him, ‘A man was once giving a great dinner. He invited many people,

17 விருந்துக்கான வேளை வந்தபோது, அழைக்கப்பட்டவர்களிடம், ‘வாருங்கள் விருந்து ஆயத்தமாகிவிட்டது’ என்று சொல்லும்படி தனது வேலைக்காரனை அனுப்பினான்.

and sent his servant, when it was time for the dinner, to say to those who had been invited “Come, for everything is now ready.”

18 “ஆனால் அவர்கள் எல்லோரும் ஒருமித்து சாக்குப்போக்கு சொல்லத் தொடங்கினார்கள். முதலாவது ஆள், ‘இப்பொழுதுதான் நான் ஒரு வயலை வாங்கியிருக்கிறேன். நான் அதைப் போய்ப் பார்க்க வேண்டியிருக்கிறது. தயவுசெய்து என்னை மன்னியும்’ என்றான்.

They all with one accord began to ask to be excused. The first said to the servant “I have bought a field and am obliged to go and look at it. I must ask you to consider me excused.”

19 “வேறொருவன், ‘நான் இப்பொழுதுதான், ஐந்து ஜோடி எருதுகளை வாங்கியிருக்கிறேன். நான் வேலையில் அவற்றை ஈடுபடுத்திப் பார்க்கப் போகிறேன். தயவுசெய்து என்னை மன்னியும்’ என்றான்.

The next said “I have bought five pairs of bullocks, and I am on my way to try them. I must ask you to consider me excused”;

20 “மற்றவனோ, ‘நான் இப்பொழுதுதான் திருமணம் செய்துகொண்டேன். எனவே, என்னால் வரமுடியாது’ என்றான்.

while the next said “I am just married, and for that reason I am unable to come.”

21 “அந்த வேலைக்காரன் திரும்பிவந்து, தனது எஜமானுக்கு நடந்தவற்றைச் சொன்னான். அப்பொழுது, அந்த வீட்டுச் சொந்தக்காரன் கோபமடைந்தான். அவன் தனது வேலைக்காரனிடம், ‘நீ விரைவாய் புறப்பட்டுப்போய், பட்டணத்து வீதிகளிலிருந்தும், சந்துகளிலிருந்தும் ஏழைகளையும், உடல் ஊனமுற்றோரையும், பார்வையற்றோரையும், கால் ஊனமுற்றோரையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு வா’ என உத்தரவிட்டான்.

On his return the servant told his master all these answers. Then in anger the owner of the house said to his servant “Go out at once into the streets and alleys of the town, and bring in here the poor, and the crippled, and the blind, and the lame.”

22 “அந்த வேலைக்காரன் வந்து, ‘ஐயா, நீர் உத்தரவிட்டபடியே செய்தாயிற்று. ஆனால், இன்னும் இடம் இருக்கிறது’ என்றான்.

Presently the servant said “Sir, your order has been carried out, and still there is room.”

23 “அப்பொழுது அந்த எஜமான் தன் வேலைக்காரனிடம், ‘நீ புறப்பட்டுப்போய் நாட்டுப்புறத்தின் தெருக்களிலிருந்தும், சேரிகளிலிருந்தும் ஆட்களை வற்புறுத்தி உள்ளே கொண்டுவா. அவ்விதமாகவே என் வீடு நிறையட்டும்.

“Go out,” the master said, “into the roads and hedgerows, and make people come in, so that my house may be filled;

24 நான் உனக்குச் சொல்கிறேன், அழைக்கப்பட்டவர்களில் ஒருவனும் எனது விருந்தை சுவைக்கமாட்டான்’ என்றான்.”

for I tell you all that not one of those people who were invited will taste my dinner.”’

25 மக்கள் பெரும் கூட்டமாய் இயேசுவுடன் போய்க்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். இயேசு திரும்பி, அவர்களைப் பார்த்துச் சொன்னதாவது:

One day, when great crowds of people were walking with Jesus, he turned and said to them,

26 “யாராவது என்னிடம் வந்து, தன் தகப்பனையும், தாயையும், மனைவியையும், பிள்ளைகளையும், சகோதரர்களையும், சகோதரிகளையும், தன் உயிரையும் வெறுக்காவிட்டால், அவர்கள் என் சீடராய் இருக்கமுடியாது.

‘If any one comes to me and does not hate their father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, yes and even their life, he can be no disciple of mine.

27 யாராவது தன் சிலுவையைச் சுமந்துகொண்டு என்னைப் பின்பற்றாவிட்டால் எனக்குச் சீடராயிருக்க முடியாது.

Whoever does not carry their own cross, and walk in my steps, can be no disciple of mine.

28 “உங்களில் யாராவது ஒரு கோபுரத்தைக் கட்ட விரும்பினால், முதலில் அவர்கள் உட்கார்ந்து, அதைக் கட்டி முடிப்பதற்குப் போதுமான பணம் தம்மிடம் இருக்கிறதா என்று கணக்குப் பார்க்காமல் இருப்பார்களோ?

Why, which of you, when you want to build a tower, does not first sit down and reckon the cost, to see if you have enough to complete it? –

29 அஸ்திபாரத்தைப் போட்டு விட்டு, அதைக் கட்டிமுடிக்க அவர்களால் முடியாவிட்டால், அதைப் பார்க்கின்ற எல்லோரும், அவர்களை கேலி செய்வார்கள்.

Otherwise, if you have laid the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will laugh at you,

30 ‘இவன் கட்டத் தொடங்கினான். ஆனாலும், அதைக் கட்டிமுடிக்க அவனால் முடியவில்லை’ என்பார்கள்.

and say “Here is a person who began to build and was not able to finish!”

31 “அல்லது ஒரு அரசன் இன்னொரு அரசனுக்கு எதிராக யுத்தம் செய்ய முற்பட்டால், முதலில் உட்கார்ந்து அவன், இருபதாயிரம் வீரர்களோடுத் தன்னை எதிர்த்து வருபவனை, தான் தன்னிடம் உள்ள பத்தாயிரம் வீரர்களோடு எதிர்த்து நிற்கமுடியுமா என்று யோசித்துப்பார்க்க மாட்டானோ?

Or what king, when he is setting out to fight another king, does not first sit down and consider if with ten thousand men he is able to meet one who is coming against him with twenty thousand?

32 அவனால் அப்படி நிற்கமுடியாவிட்டால், எதிரி தூரத்தில் வந்துகொண்டிருக்கும் போதே, அவன் பிரதிநிதிகளை அனுப்பி, சமாதான உடன்பாட்டிற்கு வரும்படி கேட்டுக்கொள்வான்.

And if he cannot, then, while the other is still at a distance, he sends envoys and asks for terms of peace.

33 அவ்விதமாகவே, உங்களில் யாராவது தம்மிடமுள்ள எல்லாவற்றையும் விட்டுவிடாவிட்டால், எனக்கு சீடராக இருக்கமுடியாது.

And so with everyone of you who does not bid farewell to all you have – you cannot be a disciple of mine.

34 “உப்பு நல்லதே. ஆனால், அதன் உவர்ப்புத் தன்மையை இழந்துபோனால், மீண்டும் அதை எப்படி உவர்ப்பு உடையதாக்க முடியும்?

Yes, salt is good; but, if the salt itself should lose its strength, what will be used to season it?

35 அது மண்ணிற்கும் பயனற்றது. அதை உரமாகவும் பயன்படுத்த முடியாது; அதை வெளியேதான் கொட்டிவிடவேண்டும். “கேட்பதற்கு காதுள்ளவன் கேட்கட்டும்” என்றார்.

It is not fit either for the land or for the manure heap. People throw it away. Let those who have ears to hear with hear!’
