நியாயாதிபதிகள் 6

1 இஸ்ரயேலர் திரும்பவும் யெகோவாவின் பார்வையில் தீமையானவற்றைச் செய்தார்கள். அவர் அவர்களை ஏழு வருடங்கள் மீதியானியர் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்.

Again the Israelites did evil in the sight of the LORD; so He delivered them into the hand of Midian for seven years,

2 மீதியானியரின் வலிமையினால் இஸ்ரயேலுக்கெதிரான ஒடுக்குதல் மிகுதியாய் இருந்தது. அதனால் இஸ்ரயேலர் மலைகளின் வெடிப்புகளிலும், குகைகளிலும், அரண்களிலும் தங்களுக்கென கோட்டைகளை அமைத்துக்கொண்டனர்.

and the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel. Because of the Midianites, the Israelites prepared shelters for themselves in the mountains, caves, and strongholds.

3 இஸ்ரயேலர் பயிரிடும் போதெல்லாம் மீதியானியரும், அமலேக்கியரும் மற்றும் கிழக்குத்திசை இனமக்கள் எல்லோரும் நாட்டிற்குள் படையெடுத்தார்கள்.

Whenever the Israelites would plant their crops, the Midianites, Amalekites, and other people of the east would come up and invade them,

4 அங்கே அவர்கள் முகாமிட்டு பயிர்களை காசாவரை அழித்தனர். இஸ்ரயேலருக்கோ செம்மறியாடுகள், கால்நடைகள், கழுதைகள் உட்பட உயிர்வாழும் எவற்றையும் விட்டுவைக்கவில்லை.

encamping against them as far as Gaza and destroying the produce of the land. They left Israel with no sustenance, neither sheep nor oxen nor donkeys.

5 தங்களிடமுள்ள வளர்ப்பு மிருகங்களோடும், கூடாரங்களோடும், வெட்டுக்கிளி கூட்டங்கள்போல் வந்தார்கள். அந்த மனிதர்களையும், ஒட்டகங்களையும் எண்ண முடியாதிருந்தது. அவர்கள் நாட்டை சூறையாடி அழிக்கும்படி அதன்மேல் படையெடுத்தார்கள்.

For the Midianites came with their livestock and their tents like a great swarm of locusts. They and their camels were innumerable, and they entered the land to ravage it.

6 இவ்வாறு மீதியானியர் இஸ்ரயேலரை மிகவும் ஏழ்மையாக்கினார்கள். இதனால் இஸ்ரயேலர் தங்களுக்கு உதவிசெய்யும்படி கேட்டு யெகோவாவிடம் அழுதார்கள்.

Israel was greatly impoverished by Midian, and the Israelites cried out to the LORD.

7 மீதியானியரின் கொடுமையால் இஸ்ரயேலர் யெகோவாவிடம் அழுதபோது,

Now when the Israelites cried out to the LORD because of Midian,

8 அவர் ஒரு இறைவாக்கினனை அனுப்பினார். அவன் அவர்களிடம், “இஸ்ரயேலின் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா சொல்வது இதுவே: நான் உங்களை அடிமைத்தன நாடான எகிப்திலிருந்து கொண்டுவந்தேன்.

He sent them a prophet, who told them, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I brought you up out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

9 அத்துடன் எகிப்தியரின் வல்லமையிலிருந்தும், ஒடுக்குபவர்கள் எல்லோரினது கையினின்றும் நானே உங்களைப் பிரித்தெடுத்தேன். அவர்களை உங்களுக்கு முன்பாகத் துரத்திவிட்டு அவர்களின் நாட்டை உங்களுக்குத் தந்தேன்.

I delivered you out of the hands of Egypt and all your oppressors. I drove them out before you and gave you their land.

10 நான் உங்களிடம், ‘நானே யெகோவா, உங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா. இப்பொழுது நீங்கள் வாழும் நாட்டிலுள்ள எமோரியரின் தெய்வங்களை வணங்கவேண்டாம்’ என உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லியிருந்தேன். ஆனால் நீங்களோ எனக்குச் செவிகொடுக்கவில்லை” என்றான்.

And I said to you: ‘I am the LORD your God. You must not fear the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell.’ But you did not obey Me.”

11 அதற்கு பின்பு யெகோவாவின் தூதனானவர் வந்து அபியேஸ்ரியனான யோவாசிற்கு சொந்தமான ஒப்ராவிலிருக்கும் கர்வாலி மரத்திற்குக்கீழ் உட்கார்ந்திருந்தார். அப்பொழுது அவனுடைய மகன் கிதியோன், மீதியானியருக்குத் தெரியாமல் திராட்சை இரச ஆலையில் கோதுமை அடித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தான்.

Then the angel of the LORD came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to hide it from the Midianites.

12 அப்பொழுது யெகோவாவின் தூதனானவர் கிதியோனின் முன்தோன்றி, “வலிமைமிக்க வீரனே! யெகோவா உன்னுடன் இருக்கிறார்” என்றார்.

And the angel of the LORD appeared to Gideon and said, “The LORD is with you, O mighty man of valor.”

13 அதற்குக் கிதியோன், “ஐயா, யெகோவா எங்களோடிருந்தால் ஏன் எங்களுக்கு இவையெல்லாம் சம்பவிக்கின்றன? எகிப்தியரின் கையினின்று யெகோவா எங்களை விடுவிக்கவில்லையா! என்று எங்கள் முற்பிதாக்கள் கூறிய அந்த அதிசயங்கள் எங்கே? இப்பொழுதோ யெகோவா எங்களைக் கைவிட்டு மீதியானியரின் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்து விட்டாரே!” என்றான்.

“Please, my Lord,” Gideon replied, “if the LORD is with us, why has all this happened to us? And where are all His wonders of which our fathers told us, saying, ‘Has not the LORD brought us up out of Egypt?’ But now the LORD has forsaken us and delivered us into the hand of Midian.”

14 யெகோவா கிதியோனைத் திரும்பிப்பார்த்து, “உனக்கிருக்கும் பெலத்துடன் நீ போய் இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களை மீதியானியர் கையினின்று காப்பாற்று. உன்னை அனுப்புகிறவர் நான் அல்லவா!” என்றார்.

The LORD turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel from the hand of Midian. Am I not sending you?”

15 அதற்கு கிதியோன், “யெகோவாவே! மனாசே கோத்திரத்தில் எனது வம்சம் வலுக்குறைந்தது; என் குடும்பத்திலும் நானே சிறியவனாயிருக்கிறேன். இஸ்ரயேலரைக் காப்பாற்ற எப்படி என்னால் முடியும்?” என்று கேட்டான்.

“Please, my Lord,” Gideon replied, “how can I save Israel? Indeed, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father’s house.”

16 அதற்கு யெகோவா, “நான் உன்னுடனே இருப்பேன்; மீதியானியர் எல்லோரையும் ஒரு மனிதனை முறியடிப்பதுபோலவே நீ முறியடிப்பாய்” என்றார்.

“Surely I will be with you,” the LORD replied, “and you will strike down all the Midianites as one man.”

17 அதற்கு கிதியோன், “இப்பொழுது உமது பார்வையில் எனக்குத் தயவு கிடைக்குமானால், என்னிடம் பேசுபவர் உண்மையாகவே நீர் என்றால் அதற்கு ஒரு அடையாளத்தைக் காண்பியும்.

Gideon answered, “If I have found favor in Your sight, give me a sign that it is You speaking with me.

18 நான் எனது காணிக்கையைக் கொண்டுவந்து உமக்கு முன்பாக வைக்கும்வரையும், தயவுசெய்து இவ்விடம் விட்டு நீர் போகவேண்டாம்” எனக் கேட்டான். அதற்கு யெகோவா, “நீ திரும்பி வரும்வரையும் நான் காத்திருப்பேன்” என்றார்.

Please do not depart from this place until I return to You. Let me bring my offering and set it before You.” And the LORD said, “I will stay until you return.”

19 உடனே கிதியோன் போய் ஒரு வெள்ளாட்டுக்குட்டியை பிடித்து சமைத்து, ஒரு எப்பா அளவு மாவில் புளிப்பில்லாத அப்பங்களைச் சுட்டான். இறைச்சியை ஒரு கூடையிலும், குழம்பை ஒரு பானையிலும் ஊற்றி கர்வாலி மரத்தடியில் இருந்தவரிடம் கொண்டுவந்து கொடுத்தான்.

So Gideon went in and prepared a young goat and unleavened bread and an ephah of flour. He placed the meat in a basket and the broth in a pot and brought them out to present to Him under the oak.

20 யெகோவாவின் தூதனானவர் அவனிடம், “இறைச்சியையும், புளிப்பில்லாத அப்பத்தையும் எடுத்து இந்த கற்பாறையின்மேல் வைத்து குழம்பை அதன்மேல் ஊற்று” என்றார். கிதியோனும் அப்படியே செய்தான்.

And the angel of God said to him, “Take the meat and the unleavened bread, lay them on this rock, and pour out the broth.” And Gideon did so.

21 யெகோவாவின் தூதனானவர் தன் கையிலிருந்த கோலின் நுனியால் இறைச்சியையும், அப்பத்தையும் தொட்டார். அப்பொழுது கற்பாறையிலிருந்து நெருப்பு திடீரென எழுந்து இறைச்சியையும், அப்பத்தையும் சுட்டெரித்தது. யெகோவாவின் தூதனானவரும் மறைந்தார்.

Then the angel of the LORD extended the tip of the staff that was in his hand and touched the meat and the unleavened bread. And fire flared from the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened bread. Then the angel of the LORD vanished from his sight.

22 கிதியோன் தான் கண்டது யெகோவாவின் தூதனானவர் என அறிந்தான்; அப்போது அவன் சத்தமிட்டு, “யெகோவாவாகிய ஆண்டவரே! யெகோவாவின் தூதனானவரை நான் முகமுகமாய்க் கண்டேனே!” என்று வியப்புடன் கூறினான்.

When Gideon realized that it was the angel of the LORD, he said, “Oh no, Lord GOD! I have seen the angel of the LORD face to face!”

23 ஆனால் யெகோவா அவனிடம், “சமாதானமாய் இரு; பயப்படாதே! நீ சாகமாட்டாய்” என்றார்.

But the LORD said to him, “Peace be with you. Do not be afraid, for you will not die.”

24 எனவே கிதியோன் அந்த இடத்தில் யெகோவாவுக்கு ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டி, அவ்விடத்திற்கு யெகோவா ஷாலோம் யெகோவாவே சமாதானம் என்று பெயரிட்டான். அவ்விடம் இந்நாள்வரை அபியேஸ்ரியரின் ஒப்ராவில் இருக்கிறது.

So Gideon built an altar to the LORD there and called it The LORD Is Peace. To this day it stands in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

25 அதே இரவில் யெகோவா அவனிடம், “உன் தகப்பனின் மந்தையிலிருந்து, ஏழு வயது நிரம்பிய இரண்டாம் காளையைப் பிடித்து எடு. உன் தகப்பன் கட்டிய பாகால் பலிபீடத்தை இடித்து, உடைத்து அதன் அருகேயுள்ள மரத்தினாலான அசேரா தெய்வத்தின் கம்பத்தையும் வெட்டிப்போடு.

On that very night the LORD said to Gideon, “Take your father’s young bull and a second bull seven years old, tear down your father’s altar to Baal, and cut down the Asherah pole beside it.

26 அதன்பின் இந்த மேட்டின் உச்சியிலே உன் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவாவுக்குத் தகுந்தவிதமான ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டு. அதிலே அந்த அசேரா தெய்வத்தின் கம்பத்தை வெட்டிய மரத்துண்டுகளை அடுக்கி, அந்த கொழுத்த இரண்டாவது காளையைத் தகன காணிக்கையாக யெகோவாவுக்கு செலுத்து” என்றார்.

Then build a proper altar to the LORD your God on the top of this stronghold. And with the wood of the Asherah pole you cut down, take the second bull and offer it as a burnt offering.”

27 எனவே கிதியோன் தனது பணியாட்களில் பத்துப்பேரை அழைத்து, யெகோவா தனக்குச் சொன்னபடியே செய்தான். ஆனால் கிதியோன் தனது குடும்பத்தவர்களுக்கும், பட்டணத்திலுள்ள மனிதருக்கும் பயந்ததினால் அதை பகலில் செய்யாமல் இரவிலே செய்தான்.

So Gideon took ten of his servants and did as the LORD had told him. But because he was too afraid of his father’s household and the men of the city, he did it by night rather than in the daytime.

28 அதிகாலையில் பட்டணத்து மக்கள் எழுந்தபோது, அங்குள்ள பாகாலின் பலிபீடம் இடிக்கப்பட்டிருப்பதையும், அதற்கு அருகேயுள்ள மரத்தாலான அசேரா தெய்வத்தின் கம்பம் வெட்டப்பட்டிருப்பதையும் கண்டார்கள். அதோடு அங்கே புதிதாகக் கட்டிய பலிபீடத்தின்மேல் ஒரு கொளுத்த காளை பலியிடப்பட்டிருப்பதையும் கண்டார்கள்.

When the men of the city got up in the morning, there was Baal’s altar torn down, with the Asherah pole cut down beside it and the second bull offered up on the newly built altar.

29 அப்பொழுது ஒருவரையொருவர், “யார் இதைச் செய்தார்கள்?” என்று கேட்டனர். பின்பு அவர்கள் மிகக் கவனமாக விசாரித்தபோது, “யோவாசின் மகன் கிதியோனே இதைச் செய்தான்” என்று அவர்களுக்குச் சொல்லப்பட்டது.

“Who did this?” they said to one another. And after they had investigated thoroughly, they were told, “Gideon son of Joash did it.”

30 உடனே பட்டணத்து மக்கள் யோவாசிடம் வந்து, “உன் மகன் எங்கள் பாகாலின் பலிபீடத்தை உடைத்து, அதன் அருகிலிருந்த அசேரா தெய்வத்தின் கம்பத்தையும் வெட்டியிருக்கிறான். ஆகையால் அவன் சாகவேண்டும். எனவே அவனை வெளியே கொண்டுவா” என வற்புறுத்திக் கேட்டார்கள்.

Then the men of the city said to Joash, “Bring out your son. He must die, because he has torn down Baal’s altar and cut down the Asherah pole beside it.”

31 ஆனால் யோவாஸ் தன்னைச் சுற்றிலும் எதிர்த்து நின்ற கூட்டத்தைப் பார்த்து, “நீங்கள் பாகாலுக்காக பரிந்து பேசப்போகிறீர்களோ? அல்லது நீங்கள் பாகாலைக் காப்பாற்றப் போகிறீர்களோ? பாகாலுக்காகச் சண்டையிடுபவன் காலையிலேயே கொல்லப்படவேண்டும். பாகால் உண்மையான தெய்வமானால் தனது பலிபீடத்தை உடைக்கும்போதே தன்னைப் பாதுகாத்திருக்கலாமே?” என்று சொன்னான்.

But Joash said to all who stood against him, “Are you contending for Baal? Are you trying to save him? Whoever pleads his case will be put to death by morning! If Baal is a god, let him contend for himself with the one who has torn down his altar.”

32 அந்த நாளில் அவர்கள் கிதியோனை, “யெருபாகால்” என அழைத்தார்கள். பாகால் பலிபீடத்தை கிதியோன் உடைத்ததால், “பாகாலே அவனுடன் வாதாடட்டும்” என்று சொல்லி இப்படிப் பெயரிட்டார்கள்.

So on that day Gideon was called Jerubbaal, that is to say, “Let Baal contend with him,” because he had torn down Baal’s altar.

33 சிறிது காலத்தின்பின், மீதியானியர் எல்லோரும், அமலேக்கியரும், கிழக்கு நாட்டு மக்களும் இஸ்ரயேலரை எதிர்த்து ஒன்றுகூடினர். அவர்கள் யோர்தானைக் கடந்துசென்று யெஸ்ராயேல் பள்ளத்தாக்கில் முகாமிட்டிருந்தார்கள்.

Then all the Midianites, Amalekites, and other people of the east gathered together, crossed over the Jordan, and camped in the Valley of Jezreel.

34 அப்பொழுது யெகோவாவின் ஆவியானவர் கிதியோன்மேல் வந்தார். எனவே அவன் எக்காளம் ஊதி அபியேசரியரைத் தன்னைப் பின்பற்றும்படி அழைத்தான்.

So the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon, who blew the ram’s horn and rallied the Abiezrites behind him.

35 பின்பு அவன் மனாசே நாடு முழுவதற்கும் தூதுவர்களை அனுப்பி அவர்களையும் ஆயுதம் தரிக்கும்படி அழைத்தான். அதோடு ஆசேர், செபுலோன், நப்தலி நாடுகளுக்கும் தூதுவர்களை அனுப்பினான். அவர்களும் அவர்களைச் சந்திக்கப் போனார்கள்.

Calling them to arms, Gideon sent messengers throughout Manasseh, as well as Asher, Zebulun, and Naphtali, so that they came up to meet him.

36 அப்பொழுது கிதியோன் இறைவனிடம், “நீர் வாக்குக் கொடுத்தபடி இஸ்ரயேலை எனது கைகளினால் மீட்பது உண்மையானால்,

Then Gideon said to God, “If You are going to save Israel by my hand, as You have said,

37 நான் கம்பளியை களத்தில் போடுவேன்; பனி, கம்பளியில் மட்டும் பெய்து எல்லா நிலமும் காய்ந்து காணப்பட்டால், நீர் சொன்னபடி இஸ்ரயேலை என் கையினால் மீட்பீர் என்பதை அறிந்துகொள்வேன்” என்றான்.

then behold, I will place a fleece of wool on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that You are going to save Israel by my hand, as You have said.”

38 கிதியோன் அதிகாலையில் எழுந்து பார்த்தபோது அது அப்படியே நடந்திருந்தது. உடனே அவன் கம்பளியைப் பிழிந்து ஒரு கிண்ணம் அளவு தண்ணீரை எடுத்தான்.

And that is what happened. When Gideon arose the next morning, he squeezed the fleece and wrung out the dew—a bowlful of water.

39 பின்பும் கிதியோன் இறைவனிடம், “நீர் என்னோடு கோபங்கொள்ள வேண்டாம். நான் உம்மிடம் கேட்க இன்னும் ஒரு வேண்டுகோள் இருக்கிறது. கம்பளியைக்கொண்டு இன்னும் ஒருமுறை சோதித்துப்பார்க்க இடங்கொடும். இம்முறை கம்பளி காய்ந்திருக்கவும் நிலமெல்லாம் பனியால் நனைந்திருக்கவும் செய்யும்” என்றான்.

Then Gideon said to God, “Do not be angry with me; let me speak one more time. Please allow me one more test with the fleece. This time let it be dry, and the ground covered with dew.”

40 அந்த இரவும் இறைவன் அவ்வாறே செய்தார். கம்பளி மாத்திரம் காய்ந்தும், நிலமெல்லாம் பனியால் நனைந்தும் இருந்தது.

And that night God did so. Only the fleece was dry, and dew covered the ground.
