ஆதியாகமம் 23
1 சாராள் நூற்று இருபத்தேழு வயதுவரை உயிரோடிருந்தாள்.
Now Sarah lived for one hundred and twenty-seven years.
2 அவள் கானானில் எப்ரோன் என்று அழைக்கப்பட்ட, கீரியாத் அர்பா என்னும் ஊரில் இறந்தாள்; அங்கே ஆபிரகாம் சாராளுக்காகத் துக்கித்து, அழுது புலம்பினான்.
And she died in the city of Arba, which is Hebron, in the land of Canaan. And Abraham came to mourn and weep for her.
3 அதன்பின்பு ஆபிரகாம், இறந்த தன் மனைவியின் அருகிலிருந்து எழுந்து, ஏத்தியருடன் பேசினான். அவன் அவர்களிடம்,
And when he had risen up from the funeral duties, he spoke to the sons of Heth, saying:
4 “நான் இங்கு உங்கள் மத்தியில் அந்நியனும், வெளிநாட்டவனுமாய் இருக்கிறேன். இறந்த என் மனைவியைப் புதைப்பதற்கான ஒரு நிலத்தை விலைக்குத் தாருங்கள்” என்று கேட்டான்.
“I am a newcomer and a sojourner among you. Give me the right of a sepulcher among you, so that I may bury my dead.”
5 அதற்கு ஏத்திய மக்கள் ஆபிரகாமிடம்,
The sons of Heth responded by saying:
6 “ஐயா, நாங்கள் சொல்வதைக் கேளும். நீர் எங்கள் மத்தியில் வல்லமையுள்ள பிரபுவாய் இருக்கிறீர். எங்கள் கல்லறைகளில் நீர் விரும்பும் சிறந்த கல்லறை ஒன்றில் உமது மனைவியை அடக்கம்பண்ணும். நீர் அடக்கம்பண்ணுவதற்கு எங்களில் ஒருவனும் தன் கல்லறையைத் தர மறுக்கமாட்டான்” என்றார்கள்.
“Hear us, O lord, you are a leader of God among us. Bury your dead in our chosen sepulchers. And no man shall be able to prohibit you from burying your dead within his memorial.”
7 அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் எழுந்து, அந்த நாட்டு மக்களான ஏத்தியருக்கு முன்பாகத் தலைவணங்கினான்.
Abraham arose, and he reverenced the people of the land, namely, the sons of Heth.
8 அவன் அவர்களிடம், “இறந்த என் மனைவியை இங்கு அடக்கம்பண்ணுவதற்கு அனுமதிக்க உங்களுக்குச் சம்மதமானால், நான் சொல்வதை நீங்கள் கேளுங்கள். சோகாரின் மகன் எப்ரோனிடம் எனக்காகப் பரிந்துபேசுங்கள்.
And he said to them: “If it pleases your soul that I should bury my dead, hear me, and intercede on my behalf with Ephron, the son of Zohar,
9 அவனுடைய நிலத்தின் எல்லையில், அவனுக்குச் சொந்தமாக இருக்கும் மக்பேலா என்னும் குகையை எனக்கு விற்கும்படி சொல்லுங்கள். அது உங்கள் மத்தியில் என் குடும்பத்தின் புதைக்கும் இடமாக இருக்க, அதை முழு விலைக்கு எனக்கு விற்கும்படி கேளுங்கள்” என்றான்.
so that he may give me the double cave, which he has at the far end of his field. He may transfer it to me for as much money as it is worth in your sight, for the possession of a sepulcher.”
10 அப்பொழுது ஏத்தியனான எப்ரோன் தன் மக்கள் மத்தியில் உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான்; அவன் தன் பட்டண வாசலுக்கு வந்திருந்த ஏத்தியர் அனைவரும் கேட்கத்தக்கதாக ஆபிரகாமுக்குப் பதிலளித்து,
Now Ephron dwelt in the midst of the sons of Heth. And Ephron responded to Abraham in the hearing of everyone who was entering at the gate of his city, saying:
11 “இல்லை ஐயா, நான் சொல்வதைக் கேளும்; நீர் கேட்கும் நிலத்தையும், அதிலுள்ள குகையையும் என் மக்கள் முன்னிலையில் உமக்குச் சொந்தமாகத் தருகிறேன். உமது இறந்த மனைவியை அதிலே அடக்கம்பண்ணும்” என்றான்.
“Let it never be so, my lord, but you should pay greater heed to what I say. The field I will transfer to you, and the cave that is in it. In the presence of the sons of my people, bury your dead.”
12 ஆபிரகாம் அந்நாட்டு மக்களுக்கு மறுபடியும் வணக்கம் செலுத்தி,
Abraham reverenced in the sight of the people of the land.
13 அவர்கள் கேட்கும்படியாக எப்ரோனிடம், “விரும்பினால் நான் சொல்வதைக் கேளும், நிலத்தின் மதிப்பை நான் உமக்குக் தருகிறேன். இறந்த என் மனைவியை நான் அங்கு அடக்கம்பண்ணும்படி பணத்தை என்னிடமிருந்து ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளும்” என்றான்.
And he spoke to Ephron, standing in the midst of the people: “I ask you to hear me. I will give you money for the field. Take it, and so I will bury my dead in it.”
14 அதற்கு எப்ரோன் ஆபிரகாமிடம்,
And Ephron responded: “My lord, hear me.
15 “ஐயா, நான் சொல்வதைக் கேளும்; அந்த நிலம் நானூறு சேக்கல் வெள்ளி மதிப்பாகும். ஆனால் எனக்கும் உமக்கும் இடையில் அது எம்மாத்திரம்? நீர் உமது இறந்த மனைவியை இந்த நிலத்தில் அடக்கம் செய்யும்” என்றான்.
The land that you request is worth four hundred shekels of silver. This is the price between me and you. But how much is this? Bury your dead.”
16 ஏத்தியருக்குக் கேட்கத்தக்கதாக எப்ரோன் சொன்ன விலைக்கு ஆபிரகாம் சம்மதித்தான். அவன் வியாபாரிகளின் நடைமுறையில் இருந்த எடையின்படி, நானூறு சேக்கல் வெள்ளியை நிறுத்து அவனுக்குக் கொடுத்தான்.
And when Abraham had heard this, he weighed out the money that Ephron had requested, in the hearing of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, of the approved public currency.
17 இவ்வாறு மம்ரேக்கு அருகே மக்பேலாவிலுள்ள எப்ரோனின் வயல், அதாவது வயலும் அதிலுள்ள குகையும், அதன் எல்லைகளுக்குட்பட்ட மரங்களும் விற்கப்பட்டன.
And having confirmed that the field, in which there was a double cave overlooking Mamre, formerly belonged to Ephron, both it and the sepulcher, and all its trees, with all its surrounding limits,
18 அது ஆபிரகாமின் சொத்தாக, பட்டணத்தின் வாசலுக்குள் வந்த எல்லா ஏத்தியருக்கு முன்பாகவும் உறுதிப்படுத்தப்பட்டது.
Abraham took it as a possession, in the sight of the sons of Heth and of everyone who was entering at the gate of his city.
19 அதற்குப்பின் ஆபிரகாம் கானான் நாட்டில், எப்ரோனிலுள்ள மம்ரேக்கு அருகே, மக்பேலா வயலில் உள்ள குகையில் தன் மனைவி சாராளை அடக்கம் செய்தான்.
So then, Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the double cave of the field that overlooked Mamre. This is Hebron in the land of Canaan.
20 இவ்வாறு அந்த வயலும், அதிலுள்ள குகையும் ஆபிரகாமுக்குச் சொந்தமான அடக்க நிலமாக ஏத்தியரால் உறுதிப்படுத்தப்பட்டது.
And the field was confirmed to Abraham, with the cave that was in it, as a memorial possession before the sons of Heth.
