எஸ்றா 4

1 சிறையிருப்பிலிருந்து திரும்பியவர்கள் இஸ்ரயேலரின் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவாவுக்கு ஒரு ஆலயத்தைக் கட்டுகிறார்கள் என யூதா பென்யமீன் மக்களின் பகைவர்கள் கேள்விப்பட்டார்கள்.

Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the exile were building the temple unto the Lord the God of Israel:

2 அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் செருபாபேலிடமும், அவர்களின் குடும்பத் தலைவர்களிடமும் வந்து, “நாங்களும் கட்டிடத்தைக் கட்ட உதவிசெய்வோம். ஏனெனில் உங்களைப் போல நாங்களும் உங்கள் இறைவனைத் தேடி; அசீரியாவின் அரசன் எசரத்தோன் எங்களை இங்கு கொண்டுவந்த நாள் முதல், நாங்கள் அவருக்கு பலிசெலுத்தி வருகிறோம்” என்றார்கள்.

Then came they near to Zerubbabel, and to the chiefs of the divisions, and said unto them, Let us build with you; for like you will we seek your God; and unto him do we sacrifice since the days of Essar-chaddon the king of Asshur, who hath brought us up hither.

3 ஆனால் செருபாபேலும், யெசுவாவும், இஸ்ரயேலின் மற்ற குடும்பத்தலைவர்களும் அவர்களிடம், “எங்கள் இறைவனுக்கு ஆலயம் கட்டுவதில் எங்களுடன் உங்களுக்குப் பங்கில்லை. பெர்சியாவின் அரசன் கோரேஸ் எங்களுக்கு கட்டளையிட்டபடி இஸ்ரயேலின் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவாவுக்கு நாங்கள் தனியாக நின்றே அதைக் கட்டுவோம்” என்றார்கள்.

But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua', and the rest of the of the divisions of Israel, said unto them, It is not obligatory on you and on us to build a house unto our God; but we ourselves together must build unto the Lord the God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.

4 அப்பொழுது அவர்களைச் சுற்றி இருந்த மக்கள் யூதா மக்களை சோர்வடையப்பண்ணி, தொடர்ந்து கட்டாதபடி பயமுறுத்த எண்ணங்கொண்டார்கள்.

Then did the people of the land weaken the hands of the people of Judah, and frightened them off from building;

5 யூதா மக்களுக்கு எதிராகச் செயல்படவும், அவர்களுடைய திட்டத்தை முறியடிக்கவும் ஆலோசகர்களைக் கூலிக்கு அமர்த்தினார்கள். இப்படியே பெர்சியாவின் அரசன் கோரேஸின் ஆட்சிக்காலம் முழுவதும், பெர்சியாவின் அரசன் தரியுவின் ஆட்சிக் காலம்வரை எதிர்த்துச் செயல்பட்டார்கள்.

And they hired against them counsellors, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus the king of Persia, and even until the reign of Darius the king of Persia.

6 அகாஸ்வேரு அரசனின் ஆட்சியின் ஆரம்பத்தில் அவர்கள் யூதா, எருசலேம் மக்களுக்கெதிராக ஒரு குற்றச்சாட்டைக் கொண்டுவந்தார்கள்.

And in the reign of Achashverosh, in the beginning of his reign they wrote an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.

7 அதன்பின் பெர்சிய அரசன் அர்தசஷ்டாவின் நாட்களில் பிஷ்லாம், மித்ரேதாத், தாபெயேல் ஆகியோரும் அவர்களோடுகூட இருந்தவர்களும் அர்தசஷ்டாவுக்கு ஒரு கடிதம் எழுதினார்கள். அக்கடிதம் அராமிய எழுத்திலும், அராமிய மொழியிலும் எழுதப்பட்டிருந்தது.

And in the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of their companions, unto Artaxerxes the king of Persia: and the writing of the letter was written in Aramic, and interpreted in Aramic.

8 தளபதியான ரெகூமும், செயலாளராகிய சிம்சாவும் எருசலேமுக்கு எதிராக அரசன் அர்தசஷ்டாவுக்கு எழுதிய கடிதம் இதுவே:

Rechum the counsellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a certain letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king, as followeth:

9 தளபதியான ரெகூமும், செயலாளராகிய சிம்சாவும் இதை எழுதுகிறோம். எங்கள் கூட்டாளிகளான திரிபோலி, பெர்சியா, ஏரேக், பாபிலோன் ஆகியவற்றைச் சேர்ந்த நீதிபதிகளும் அதிகாரிகளும் சேர்ந்துள்ளார்கள். சூசாவிலுள்ள இவர்கள் ஏலாமியருக்கும் அதிகாரிகளாயிருக்கிறார்கள்.

Then [wrote] Rechum the counsellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions, from Din, and Apharsathach, Tarpel, Apharass, Erech, Babylon, Shushan, Dehav, and 'Elam,

10 மற்றும் மேன்மையும், கனமும் உள்ள அஸ்னாப்பார் அரசன் நாடுகடத்திச் சென்று சமாரியப் பட்டணத்திலும், ஐபிராத்து நதியின் மறுகரைவரை குடியமர்த்திய மற்ற மக்களுக்கும் இவர்கள் அதிகாரிகளாய் இருக்கிறார்கள்.

And the rest of the nations whom the great and honored Assnapper had brought into exile, and settled in the cities of Samaria, and the rest that are on this side the river, and so forth.

11 அவர்கள் அவனுக்கு அனுப்பிய கடிதத்தின் பிரதி இதுவே, அர்தசஷ்டா அரசனுக்கு, ஐபிராத்து நதியின் மறுகரையிலுள்ள மனிதர்களான உமது பணியாளர்களாகிய நாங்கள் எழுதுவது,

This is the copy of the letter which they sent unto him, even unto king Artaxerxes: Thy servants the men on this side the river, and so forth.

12 உம்மிடத்தில் இருந்து எங்களிடம் வந்த யூதர்கள் எருசலேமுக்குப் போய், கலகமும் கொடுமையும் நிறைந்த அந்தப் பட்டணத்தைத் திரும்பவும் கட்டுகிறார்கள் என்பதை அரசன் அறியவேண்டும். அவர்கள் மதில்களைத் திரும்பவும் கட்டி, அஸ்திபாரங்களைப் பழுதுபார்க்கிறார்கள்.

Be it made known unto the king, that the Jews who removed away from thee are come up to us unto Jerusalem: they are building the rebellious and the bad city, and are completing the walls, and are joining together the foundations.

13 பட்டணம் கட்டப்பட்டு, அதில் மதில்களும் திரும்பக் கட்டப்படுமானால் அவர்கள் உமக்குத் தொடர்ந்து வரியோ, திறையோ, சுங்கத் தீர்வையோ செலுத்தமாட்டார்கள். அதனால் அரசருக்குரிய வரிகள் பாதிக்கப்படும் என்பதைத் தெரியப்படுத்த விரும்புகிறோம்.

Be it now known unto the king, that, if this city be rebuilt, and the walls be completed, they will not give tax, tribute, and toll, and the royal revenues will suffer damage.

14 இப்பொழுது நாங்கள் அரண்மனைக்கு கடமைப்பட்டவர்களானதினாலும், அரசர் அவமானப்படுவதை நாங்கள் விரும்பாததினாலுமே அரசருக்கு இதை அறிவிக்கும்படி நாங்கள் இச்செய்தியை அறிவிக்கிறோம்.

Now because we eat the salt of the palace, and it is not proper for us to see the king's dishonor, therefore have we sent and let the king know this:

15 எனவே, உமது முற்பிதாக்களின் பதிவேட்டுச் சுவடிகள் ஆராயப்பட வேண்டும். அந்தப் பதிவேடுகளில் இருந்து இந்தப் பட்டணம் ஒரு கலகம் விளைவிக்கும் பட்டணம் என்பதையும், முந்திய காலங்களிலிருந்தே அரசருக்கும், மாகாணங்களுக்கும் தொல்லை கொடுக்கும் கலகம் நிறைந்த இடம் என்பதையும் நீர் அறிந்துகொள்வீர். அதனாலேயே இந்தப் பட்டணம் அழிக்கப்பட்டது.

That search may be made in the book of the memorable events of thy fathers, and thou wilt find in the book of the memorable events, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have practised sedition within the same from the most ancient time; for which cause this city was destroyed.

16 இப்பொழுது அந்தப் பட்டணம் கட்டப்பட்டு, மதில்களும் திரும்பவும் கட்டிமுடிக்கப்படுமானால், நதியின் மறுகரையில் உமக்கு ஒன்றும் எஞ்சியிருக்காது என்று அரசருக்கு இதை அறிவிக்கிறோம் என எழுதியிருந்தனர்.

We let the king know that, if this city be rebuilt, and its walls be completed, by this means thou wilt have no more any portion on this side of the river.

17 அதற்கு அரசன் அனுப்பிய பதிலாவது: தளபதி ரெகூமுக்கும், செயலாளராகிய சிம்சாயிக்கும், சமாரியாவிலும் ஐபிராத்து மறுகரையிலுமுள்ள அவர்களின் உடன் அதிகாரிகளுக்கும் வாழ்த்துச் சொல்லி எழுதுகிறதாவது:

Then sent the king a reply unto Rechum the counsellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and unto the rest of those beyond the river, Peace, and so forth.

18 நீங்கள் எனக்கு அனுப்பிய கடிதம் எனக்கு முன்னால் வாசிக்கப்பட்டு, மொழி பெயர்க்கப்பட்டது.

The letter which ye have sent unto us hath been plainly read before me.

19 என் உத்தரவின்படி பதிவேட்டுச் சுவடிகள் தேடிப்பார்க்கப்பட்டன. அதிலிருந்து இப்பட்டணம் அரசருக்கு எதிராக நீண்டகாலமாக கலகம் செய்தது என்பதையும், கலகமும், குழப்பமும் உள்ள இடமாயிருந்தது எனவும் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டது.

And an order was given by me, and search was made, and it was found that this city from the most ancient time hath lifted itself up against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been practised therein.

20 அத்துடன் வலிமைமிக்க அரசர்கள் எருசலேமிலிருந்து, நதியின் மறுகரைவரை எங்கும் ஆட்சிசெய்திருக்கின்றனர் எனவும், அவர்களுக்கு வரிகளும், திறையும், சுங்கத் தீர்வையும் செலுத்தப்பட்டிருக்கின்றன எனவும் அறிந்தேன்.

And that mighty kings have been over Jerusalem, who ruled over all the countries beyond the river; and that tax, tribute, and toll was given unto them.

21 எனவே இப்பொழுதே அந்த வேலையை நிறுத்தும்படி மனிதர்களுக்கு கட்டளை பிறப்பியுங்கள். என்னால் உத்தரவு பிறப்பிக்கப்படும்வரை அந்தப் பட்டணம் திருப்பிக் கட்டப்படக்கூடாது.

Now give ye the order to stop these men, and this city shall not be built, until the order be given from me.

22 இதைச் செய்வதில் கவனக்குறைவாய் இருக்காதீர்கள். ஏன் இந்த அச்சுறுத்தல் வளர்ந்து அரசர்களின் நலன்களுக்குக் கெடுதியை உண்டாக்க வேண்டும் என எழுதியனுப்பினான்.

Take heed now that ye commit no error in this: that not any injury may grow [out of this] to the damage of the kings.

23 அர்தசஷ்டா அரசனின் கடிதத்தின் பிரதி ரெகூமுக்கும், செயலாளராகிய சிம்சாயிக்கும், அவர்களின் கூட்டாளிகளுக்கும் வாசித்துக் காட்டப்பட்டது. அவர்கள் உடனடியாக எருசலேமிலுள்ள யூதர்களிடத்தில் போய் வேலையை நிறுத்தும்படி யூதரைப் பலவந்தப்படுத்தினார்கள்.

Thereupon so soon as the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rechum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they did go up in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and stopped them by force and power.

24 எனவே எருசலேமில் இறைவனின் ஆலயவேலை நிறுத்தப்பட்டது. பெர்சிய அரசன் தரியு அரசாண்ட இரண்டாம் வருடம் வரைக்கும் இவ்வாறே நிறுத்தப்பட்டிருந்தது.

Then was stopped the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem, and it remained interrupted until the second year of the reign of Darius the king of Persia.
