எஸ்தர் 1
1 அகாஸ்வேரு அரசனின் காலத்தில் நிகழ்ந்தது இதுவே: இந்த அகாஸ்வேரு இந்திய தேசம் முதல் எத்தியோப்பியாவரை பரந்திருந்த நூற்றிருபத்தேழு மாகாணங்களை ஆளுகை செய்தான்.
Now it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus, (this [is] Ahasuerus who reigned from India even to Cush, [over] a hundred and seven and twenty provinces: )
2 அக்காலத்தில் அகாஸ்வேரு அரசன் சூசான் கோட்டைப் பட்டணத்திலுள்ள தனது அரச அரியணையிலிருந்து அரசாட்சி செய்தான்.
[That] in those days, when the king Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom, which [was] in Shushan the palace,
3 அவன் தனது ஆட்சியின் மூன்றாம் வருடத்தில் தனது உயர்குடி மக்களுக்கும், அதிகாரிகளுக்கும் விருந்தொன்றைக் கொடுத்தான். அதற்கு பெர்சியா, மேதியா ஆகிய நாடுகளின் இராணுவத் தலைவர்களும், இளவரசர்களும், மாகாணங்களின் உயர்குடி மக்களும் வந்திருந்தார்கள்.
In the third year of his reign, he made a feast to all his princes and his servants; the power of Persia and Media, the nobles and princes of the provinces, [being] before him:
4 நூற்றெண்பது நாட்களாக அவன் தனது அரசின் திரளான செல்வத்தையும், தனது சிறப்பையும் மகிமையையும், மாட்சிமையையும் காண்பித்தான்.
When he showed the riches of his glorious kingdom and the honor of his excellent majesty many days, [even] a hundred and eighty days.
5 இந்த நாட்கள் முடிவடைந்தபின், அரச அரண்மனையில் சுற்றிலும் அடைக்கப்பட்ட தோட்டத்தில், ஒரு விருந்தைக் கொடுத்தான். அது ஏழுநாட்களுக்கு நீடித்தது. சூசான் கோட்டைப் பட்டணத்தில் இருந்த சிறியோர் பெரியோரான சகல மக்களையும் அதற்கு அழைத்திருந்தான்.
And when these days had expired, the king made a feast for all the people that were present in Shushan the palace, both for great and small, seven days, in the court of the garden of the king's palace;
6 அந்தத் தோட்டத்தில் வெள்ளை மற்றும் நீல நிறங்களினாலான பஞ்சுநூல் திரைகள் போடப்பட்டிருந்தன. அவை வெள்ளை மென்பட்டினாலும், செம்பட்டினாலும் செய்யப்பட்ட நாடாக்களினால் பளிங்கு தூண்கள் மேலுள்ள வெள்ளி வளையங்களில் கட்டப்பட்டிருந்தன. வெண்ணிறக் கல், பளிங்குக் கல், முத்துச் சிப்பிகள், விலைமதிப்புள்ள மாணிக்கக் கற்கள், பதிக்கப்பட்ட பளபளப்பான மேடையில், தங்கத்தினாலும் வெள்ளியினாலும் செய்யப்பட்ட இருக்கைகள் போடப்பட்டிருந்தன.
[Where were] white, green, and blue [hangings], fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rings and pillars of marble: the beds [were of] gold and silver, upon a pavement of red, and blue, and white, and black marble.
7 திராட்சை இரசம், பல்வேறு வகையான தங்கக் கிண்ணங்களில் பரிமாறப்பட்டது. அரசனுடைய தாராள மனதின்படியே அரசருக்குரிய திராட்சை இரசம் நிறைவாயிருந்தது.
And they gave [them] drink in vessels of gold, (the vessels being diverse one from another, ) and royal wine in abundance, according to the state of the king.
8 அரசனுடைய கட்டளைப்படியே எல்லா விருந்தாளிகளும் தாங்கள் விரும்பியபடி குடிப்பதற்கு அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தார்கள். ஏனெனில், அரசன் தனது திராட்சை இரசப் பொறுப்பாளர்கள் எல்லோருக்கும், ஒவ்வொரு மனிதனும் கேட்கும் அளவு திராட்சை இரசத்தைப் பரிமாறும்படி அறிவுறுத்தியிருந்தான்.
And the drinking [was] according to the law; none constrained: for so the king had appointed to all the officers of his house, that they should do according to every man's pleasure.
9 அகாஸ்வேருவின் அரச அரண்மனையில் இருந்த பெண்களுக்கு அரசி வஸ்தி, தானும் ஒரு விருந்தைக் கொடுத்தாள்.
Also Vashti the queen made a feast for the women [in] the royal house which [belonged] to king Ahasuerus.
10 ஏழாம்நாளில் அகாஸ்வேரு அரசன் திராட்சை மதுவினால் களிப்புற்றிருக்கும் போது, தனக்குப் பணிசெய்த மெகுமான், பிஸ்தா, அற்போனா, பிக்தா, அபக்தா, சேதார், கர்காஸ் ஆகிய ஏழு அதிகாரிகளுக்கும் கட்டளையிட்டு,
On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven chamberlains that served in the presence of Ahasuerus the king,
11 “அரசி வஸ்தியின் அழகை மக்களுக்கும், உயர்குடி மனிதருக்கும் காண்பிக்கும்படி, அவளுக்கு அரச கிரீடமும் அணிவித்து எனக்குமுன் கொண்டுவாருங்கள்” என்று சொன்னான். ஏனெனில் அவள் பார்ப்பதற்கு மிகவும் அழகுள்ளவளாக இருந்தாள்.
To bring Vashti the queen before the king with the crown royal, to show the people and the princes her beauty: for she [was] fair to look on.
12 ஆனால், அந்த ஏவலாளர்கள் அரசனுடைய கட்டளையை அறிவித்தபோது, அரசி வஸ்தி வருவதற்கு மறுத்துவிட்டாள். இதனால் அரசன் சினங்கொண்டான். அவனுடைய கோபம் பற்றியெரிந்தது.
But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king's commandment by [his] chamberlains: therefore was the king very wroth, and his anger burned in him.
13 சட்டம், நீதி ஆகியவற்றின் விவகாரங்களில், நிபுணர்களுடன் கலந்தாலோசிப்பது அரசனின் வழக்கமாயிருந்தது. எனவே அவன் காலங்களை விளங்கிக்கொண்ட ஞானிகளுடன் இதுபற்றி பேசினான்.
Then the king said to the wise men, who knew the times, (for so [was] the king's manner towards all that knew law and judgment:
14 மேலும் அரசன் தனக்கு மிகவும் நெருங்கியவர்களாயிருந்த பெர்சிய, மேதிய நாடுகளின் ஏழு இளவரசர்களான மர்சேனா, சேதார், அத்மாதா, தர்ஷீஸ், மேரேஸ், மர்சேனா, மெமுகான் ஆகியோருடனும் பேசினான். இவர்கள் அரசனிடம் செல்வதற்கு விசேஷ அனுமதியுடையவர்களாகவும், அரசில் மிக உயர்ந்தவர்களாகவும் இருந்தார்கள்.
And the next to him [was] Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, [and] Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, who saw the king's face, [and] who sat the first in the kingdom; )
15 அகாஸ்வேரு அரசன், “அதிகாரிகள் அவளுக்கு அறிவித்திருந்த அரச கட்டளைக்கு அவள் கீழ்ப்படியவில்லை. ஆகவே சட்டத்தின்படி அரசி வஸ்திக்கு என்ன செய்யப்படவேண்டும்?” என்று கேட்டான்.
What shall we do to the queen Vashti according to law, because she hath not performed the commandment of the king Ahasuerus by the chamberlains?
16 அப்பொழுது மெமுகான் அரசனுக்கும், உயர்குடி மனிதருக்கும் முன்னிலையில், “அரசி வஸ்தி அரசனுக்கு மட்டுமல்ல, உயர்குடி மனிதருக்கும், அகாஸ்வேரு அரசனுடைய எல்லா நாடுகளிலுமுள்ள மக்களுக்கும் எதிராக அநியாயம் செய்திருக்கிறாள்.
And Memucan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti the queen hath not done wrong to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the people that [are] in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus.
17 அரசியின் நடத்தை எல்லாப் பெண்களுக்கும் தெரியவரும். எனவே அவர்கள் தங்கள் கணவர்களை உதாசீனம் செய்வார்கள். அதோடு, ‘அகாஸ்வேரு அரசன், அரசி வஸ்தியைத் தமக்கு முன்வரும்படி கட்டளையிட்டும் அவள் வரவில்லை’ என்றும் சொல்வார்கள்.
For [this] deed of the queen will come abroad to all women, so that they will despise their husbands in their eyes, when it shall be reported, The king Ahasuerus commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she came not.
18 இந்த நாளிலேயே அரசியினுடைய நடத்தையைக் கேள்விப்பட்டிருக்கிற பெர்சிய, மேதிய நாட்டின் உயர்குலப் பெண்களும் இதேவிதமாகவே அரசனின் உயர்குடி மனிதர் எல்லோருடனும் நடந்துகொள்வார்கள். அவமதிப்புக்கும் எரிச்சலுக்கும் முடிவிருக்காது.
[Likewise] will the ladies of Persia and Media say this day to all the king's princes, who have heard of the deed of the queen. Thus [will there arise] too much contempt and wrath.
19 “ஆகவே அரசருக்கு விருப்பமானால், வஸ்தி இனியொருபோதும் அரசன் அகாஸ்வேருவின் முன்பாக வரக்கூடாது என்று அரச கட்டளையை அறிவிப்பாராக. அதை மாற்றப்பட முடியாத பெர்சிய, மேதிய சட்டங்களிலும் எழுதி வைப்பாராக. அத்துடன் அவளைவிட மேலான ஒருத்திக்கு அவளுடைய அரச பதவியைக் கொடுப்பாராக.
If it pleaseth the king, let a royal commandment go from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it be not altered, That Vashti come no more before king Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate to another that is better than she.
20 அவ்வாறு அரச கட்டளை அவருடைய பரந்த பிரதேசம் எங்கும் அறிவிக்கப்படும்போது, எல்லா பெண்களும், சிறியோரிலிருந்து பெரியோர்வரை தங்கள் கணவனை மதிப்பார்கள்” என்றான்.
And when the king's decree which he shall make shall be published throughout all his empire, (for it is great, ) all the wives will give to their husbands honor, both to great and small.
21 அரசனுக்கும், அவனுடைய உயர்குடி மனிதருக்கும் இந்த ஆலோசனை பிரியமாயிருந்தது. எனவே மெமுகான் சொன்ன ஆலோசனையின்படியே அரசன் செய்தான்.
And the saying pleased the king and the princes; and the king did according to the word of Memucan:
22 அப்படியே அவன் தனது அரசின் எல்லாப் பகுதிகளுக்கும், “ஒவ்வொரு ஆணும் தன் குடும்பத்தின்மேல் தலைவனாயிருக்க வேண்டும்” என்று கடிதங்களைத் துரிதமாய் அனுப்பினான். ஒவ்வொரு மாகாணத்திற்கும் அதற்குரிய எழுத்திலும், ஒவ்வொரு மக்களுக்கும் அவர்களுடைய சொந்த மொழியிலும் எழுதி அவர்களுக்கு அறிவித்தான்.
For he sent letters into all the king's provinces, into every province according to the writing of it, and to every people after their language, that every man should bear rule in his own house, and that [it] should be published according to the language of every people.
