பிரசங்கி 4

1 மீண்டும் நான் பார்த்தபோது: சூரியனுக்குக் கீழே அநேக ஒடுக்குதல்களைக் கண்டேன். ஒடுக்கப்படுகிறவர்களின் கண்ணீரையும், அவர்களை ஆறுதல்படுத்த யாரும் இல்லாதிருப்பதையும் கண்டேன்; அவர்களை ஒடுக்குவோரின் பக்கத்திலேயே வல்லமை இருந்தது, அவர்களை ஆறுதல்படுத்த யாருமே இல்லை.

So I turned and considered all the oppressions that are wrought vnder the sunne, and beholde the teares of the oppressed, and none comforteth them: and lo, the strength is of the hand of them that oppresse them, and none comforteth them.

2 ஆதலால் இன்னும் உயிரோடிருந்து வாழ்கிறவர்களைப் பார்க்கிலும், ஏற்கெனவே செத்து மடிந்துபோனவர்களே மகிழ்ச்சிக்குரியவர்கள் என்று அறிவித்தேன்.

Wherefore I praysed the dead which now are dead, aboue the liuing, which are yet aliue.

3 இவ்விரு கூட்டத்தினரைவிட, இன்னமும் பிறவாதவர்களே மேலானவர்கள். அவர்கள் சூரியனுக்குக் கீழே செய்யப்படும் தீமையைக் காணவில்லையே.

And I count him better then them both, which hath not yet bin: for he hath not seene the euill workes which are wrought vnder the sunne.

4 தனது அயலவனைக் குறித்து மனிதன் கொண்டிருக்கும் பொறாமையிலிருந்தே, எல்லா உழைப்பும் திறமையும் ஏற்படுகிறது என்று நான் கண்டுகொண்டேன். இதுவும் அர்த்தமற்றதே; காற்றைத் துரத்திப்பிடிக்கும் முயற்சியே.

Also I beheld all trauaile, and all perfection of workes that this is ye enuie of a man against his neighbour: this also is vanitie and vexation of spirit.

5 மூடன் தன் கைகளைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டு தன்னையே அழித்துக்கொள்கிறான்.

The foole foldeth his hands, and eateth vp his owne flesh.

6 காற்றைத் துரத்திப்பிடிப்பது போன்ற பயனற்ற உழைப்பினால், இரு கைகளையும் நிரப்புவதைவிட, மன அமைதியுடன் ஒரு கையை நிரப்பிக்கொள்வது மேலானது.

Better is an handfull with quietnesse, then two handfuls with labour and vexation of spirit.

7 சூரியனுக்குக் கீழே இன்னும் அர்த்தமற்ற ஒன்றை நான் கண்டேன்:

Againe I returned, and sawe vanitie vnder the sunne.

8 தனிமையாய் இருக்கும் ஒரு மனிதன் இருந்தான். அவனுக்கு மகனோ, சகோதரனோ இல்லை. அப்படியிருந்தும் அவனுடைய கடும் உழைப்பிற்கோ முடிவே இருக்கவில்லை. ஆனாலும் அவன் கண்கள் அவனுடைய செல்வத்தில் திருப்தியடையவுமில்லை. அவன், “நான் யாருக்காக கஷ்டப்பட்டு உழைக்கிறேன்; ஏன் நான் என் வாழ்வை சந்தோஷமாய் அனுபவியாதிருக்கிறேன்” என்று கேட்டான். இதுவும் அர்த்தமற்றதும், அவலத்துக்குரிய ஒரு நிலையாயும் இருக்கிறது.

There is one alone, and there is not a second, which hath neither sonne nor brother, yet is there none end of all his trauaile, neither can his eye be satisfied with riches: neither doeth he thinke, For whome doe I trauaile and defraude my soule of pleasure? this also is vanitie, and this is an euill trauaile.

9 தனியொருவனாய் இருப்பதைப் பார்க்கிலும், இருவராய் இருப்பது நல்லது. ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் தங்கள் வேலையிலிருந்து நல்ல பயனைப் பெறுவார்கள்.

Two are better then one: for they haue better wages for their labour.

10 ஒருவன் விழுந்தால், அவன் நண்பன் அவன் எழும்ப உதவிசெய்ய முடியும். ஆனால் கீழே விழும்போது எழுந்திருக்க உதவிசெய்ய யாரும் இல்லாத மனிதனோ, பரிதாபத்திற்குரியவன்.

For if they fal, the one wil lift vp his felow: but wo vnto him that is alone: for he falleth, and there is not a second to lift him vp.

11 அத்துடன் இருவர் ஒன்றாய்ப் படுத்திருந்தால், தங்களை சூடாக வைத்துக்கொள்வார்கள். ஆனால் ஒருவன் தனிமையாய் தன்னை எப்படிச் சூடாக வைத்துக்கொள்ள முடியும்.

Also if two sleepe together, then shall they haue heate: but to one how should there be heate?

12 ஒரு தனி மனிதன் இலகுவில் வீழ்த்தப்படலாம்; ஆனால் இருவராய் இருந்தால் அவர்கள் தங்களைக் காத்துக்கொள்வார்கள். முப்புரிக்கயிறு விரைவில் அறாது.

And if one ouercome him, two shall stand against him: and a threefolde coard is not easily broken.

13 எச்சரிப்பை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளத் தெரியாத முதியவனும் மூடனுமான அரசனைவிட, ஞானமுள்ள ஏழை வாலிபனே சிறந்தவன்.

Better is a poore and wise childe, then an olde and foolish King, which will no more be admonished.

14 அந்த வாலிபன் சிறையில் இருந்து அரச பதவிக்கு உயர்ந்திருக்கலாம். அல்லது தனது ஆட்சிக்குரிய பிரதேசத்தில் ஏழ்மையில் பிறந்திருக்கலாம்.

For out of the prison he commeth forth to reigne: when as he that is borne in his kingdome, is made poore.

15 சூரியனுக்குக் கீழே வாழ்ந்து நடந்த யாவரும் அரசனுக்குப்பின், அவனுடைய இடத்தில் வந்த வாலிபனையே பின்பற்றுவதைக் கண்டேன்.

I behelde all the liuing, which walke vnder the sunne, with the second childe, which shall stand vp in his place.

16 அப்படி அவனைப் பின்பற்றுகிற மக்களுக்கு முடிவே இல்லை. ஆனால் அதற்குப் பிறகு வந்த சந்ததியோ புதிதாக ஆட்சிக்கு வந்தவனில் பிரியப்படவில்லை. இதுவும் அர்த்தமற்றதே, காற்றைத் துரத்திப்பிடிக்கும் முயற்சியே.

There is none ende of all the people, nor of all that were before them, and they that come after, shall not reioyce in him: surely this is also vanitie and vexation of spirit.
