1 ஒரு நாள் இறைவாக்கினர் கூட்டத்திலுள்ள ஒருவனின் மனைவி எலிசாவை நோக்கி, “உமது அடியானான எனது கணவன் இறந்துவிட்டார். அவர் யெகோவாவிடத்தில் பயபக்தியாய் இருந்தார் என்பது உமக்குத் தெரியும். இப்போது அவருடைய கடன்காரன் என்னுடைய இரு மகன்களையும் தனக்கு அடிமைகளாக்குவதற்கு கூட்டிக்கொண்டுபோக வந்திருக்கிறான்” என்றாள்.

Now a certain woman of the wives of the prophets cried to Eliseus, saying: Thy servant my husband is dead, and thou knowest that thy servant was one that feared God, and behold the creditor is come to take away my two sons to serve him.

2 அப்பொழுது எலிசா அவளைப் பார்த்து, “நான் உனக்கு எப்படி உதவிசெய்யலாம்? வீட்டில் உன்னிடம் என்ன உண்டு? எனக்குச் சொல்” என்று கேட்டான். அதற்கு அவள், “ஒரு ஜாடி எண்ணெயைத் தவிர உமது அடியவளின் வீட்டில் வேறு ஒன்றுமே இல்லை” என்று கூறினாள்.

And Eliseus said to her: What wilt thou have me to do for thee? Tell me, what hast thou in thy house? And she answered: I thy handmaid have nothing in my house but a little oil, to anoint me.

3 அப்பொழுது எலிசா, “நீ போய் உன் அயல் வீட்டுக்காரர் எல்லாரிடமிருந்தும் வெறும் ஜாடிகளைக் கேட்டு வாங்கு. அதிகளவு ஜாடிகளைக் கேட்டு வாங்கு.

And he said to her: Go, borrow of all thy neighbours empty vessels not a few.

4 அதன்பின் நீயும் உன் மகன்களும் வீட்டின் உள்ளே போய், கதவைப் பூட்டிக்கொள்ளுங்கள். பின்பு எண்ணெயை எல்லா ஜாடிகளிலும் ஊற்றுங்கள். ஒவ்வொன்றும் நிரம்பியவுடன், ஒரு பக்கத்தில் அவற்றை எடுத்துவையுங்கள்” என்றான்.

And go in, and shut thy door, when thou art within, and thy sons: and pour out thereof into all those vessels: and when they are full take them away.

5 அவள் அவனிடமிருந்து போய், மகன்களுடன் வீட்டினுள்ளே போய் கதவைப் பூட்டினாள். அவளுடைய மகன்கள் ஜாடிகளைக் கொடுக்கக் கொடுக்க அவள் எண்ணெயை ஊற்றிக்கொண்டேயிருந்தாள்.

So the woman went, and shut the door upon her, and upon her sons: they brought her the vessels, and she poured in.

6 எல்லா ஜாடிகளும் நிரம்பியபோது, அவள் தன் மகனைப் பார்த்து, “மற்றொரு ஜாடி கொண்டுவா” என்றாள். “இனிமேல் வேறு ஜாடி இல்லை” என்று அவன் கூறியபோது எண்ணெய் நின்றுவிட்டது.

And when the vessels were full, she said to her son: Bring me yet a vessel. And he answered: I have no more. And the oil stood.

7 அவள் போய் இறைவனுடைய மனிதனிடம் அதைக்கூறியபோது அவன் அவளிடம், “நீ போய் அந்த எண்ணெயை விற்று உன் கடனைத் தீர்த்திடு. நீயும் உன் மகன்களும் மீதியாயிருப்பதைக் கொண்டு வாழலாம்” என்றான்.

And she came, and told the man of God. And he said: Go, sell the oil, and pay thy creditor: and thou and thy sons live of the rest.

8 ஒரு நாள் எலிசா சூனேம் என்ற ஊருக்குப் போனான். அங்கு ஒரு செல்வம் மிகுந்த பெண் இருந்தாள். அவள் அவனை சாப்பிடவரும்படி வருந்தி அழைத்தாள். அதன்பின்பு அவ்வழியில் அவன் போகும்போதெல்லாம் அங்கே சாப்பிடுவதற்காகத் தங்குவான்.

And there was a day when Eliseus passed by Sunam: now there was a great woman there, who detained him to eat bread; and as he passed often that way, he turned into her house to eat bread.

9 அவள் தன் கணவனிடம், “இந்த வழியாக வந்து இங்கு தங்கிப்போகும் மனிதன், இறைவனுடைய பரிசுத்த மனிதன் என்பது எனக்குத் தெரிகிறது.

And she said to her husband: I perceive that this is a holy man of God, who often passeth by us.

10 நாங்கள் எங்கள் வீட்டுக்குமேல் ஒரு அறையைக் கட்டி, ஒரு கட்டில், மேஜை, நாற்காலி, விளக்கு ஆகியவற்றை அவருக்கு வைப்போம். அதனால் எங்களிடம் வரும்போதெல்லாம் அங்கேயே அவர் தங்கியிருக்கலாம்” என்றாள்.

Let us therefore make him a little chamber, and put a little bed in it for him, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick, that when he cometh to us, he may abide there.

11 ஒரு நாள் எலிசா அங்கு வந்தபோது மேலே தன் அறைக்குப் போய் அங்கே படுத்திருந்தான்.

Now there was a certain day when he came and turned in to the chamber, and rested there.

12 தன் வேலைக்காரனான கேயாசிடம், “அந்த சூனேமியாளை அழைத்து வா” என்றான். அவன் போய் அவளை அழைத்துவர, அவள் வந்து எலிசாவுக்கு முன் நின்றாள்.

And he said to Giezi his servant Call this Sunamitess. And when he had called her, and she stood before him,

13 அப்பொழுது எலிசா கேயாசியைப் பார்த்து, “நீ அவளிடம் சொல்லவேண்டியதாவது: ‘எங்களுக்காக நீ எவ்வளவு கஷ்டப்பட்டுவிட்டாய். உனக்கு நாங்கள் என்ன செய்யலாம்? உனது சார்பாக அரசனிடமோ அல்லது இராணுவத் தளபதியிடமோ நாங்கள் ஏதேனும் சொல்ல வேண்டியிருந்தால் அதைச் சொல்’ என்று அவளிடம் கேள்” என்றான். அவள் அதற்குப் பதிலாக, “நான் என் சொந்த மக்கள் மத்தியில் குடியிருக்க எனக்கு வீடு இருக்கிறது” என்றாள்.

He said to his servant: Say to her Behold thou hast diligently served us in all things, what wilt thou have me to do for thee? hast thou any business, and wilt thou that I speak to the king, or to the general of the army? And she answered: I dwell in the midst of my own people.

14 அப்பொழுது எலிசா கேயாசிடம், “அவளுக்கு என்ன செய்யலாம்?” என்று கேட்டான். அதற்கு கேயாசி, “அவளுக்கு ஒரு மகன் இல்லை. அவளுடைய கணவனும் வயதுசென்றவனாக இருக்கிறான்” என்றான்.

And he said: What will she then that I do for her? And Giezi said: Do not ask, for she hath no son, and her husband is old.

15 எலிசா அவனிடம், “அவளைக் கூப்பிடு” என்றான். கேயாசி அவளைக் கூப்பிட்டபோது, அவள் வந்து கதவுக்குப் பக்கத்தில் நின்றாள்.

Then he bid him call her: And when she was called, and stood before the door.

16 எலிசா அவளைப் பார்த்து, “அடுத்த வருடம் இந்த நேரத்தில் உன் கைகளில் ஒரு மகனை ஏந்திக்கொண்டிருப்பாய்” என்றான். அப்பொழுது அவள், “என் தலைவனே! இறைவனுடைய மனிதனே, உமது அடியவளைத் தவறாக வழிநடத்த வேண்டாம்” என்றாள்.

He said to her: At this time, and this same hour, if life accompany, thou shalt have a son in thy womb. But she answered: Do not, I beseech thee, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie to thy handmaid.

17 ஆனால் அவளோ எலிசா முன்கூறியபடியே கர்ப்பமாகி அடுத்த வருடம் அதே காலத்தில் ஒரு மகனைப் பெற்றாள்.

And the woman conceived, and brought forth a son in the time, and at the same hour, that Eliseus had said.

18 அந்தப் பிள்ளை வளர்ந்து வந்தான். ஒரு நாள் அவன் கதிர் அறுக்கிறவர்களுடன் நின்றுகொண்டிருந்த தன் தகப்பனிடம் போனான்.

And the child grew. And on a certain day, when he went out to his father to the reapers,

19 அந்நேரம் அவன் தன் தகப்பனிடம், “என் தலை! என் தலை வலிக்கிறது” என்று அழுதான். அவனுடைய தகப்பன் ஒரு வேலையாளிடம், “இவனை இவனுடைய தாயிடம் தூக்கிக்கொண்டு போ” என்றான்.

He said to his father: My head acheth, my head acheth. But he said to his servant: Take him, and carry him to his mother.

20 அந்த வேலைக்காரன் அப்பிள்ளையைத் தூக்கி அவனுடைய தாயிடம் கொண்டுபோனான். மத்தியானம்வரை தாய் அவனைத் தன் மடியில் வைத்திருந்தாள். மதிய நேரத்தில் அவன் இறந்துபோனான்.

And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, she set him on her knees until noon, and then he died.

21 அவள் மேலே போய் இறைவனுடைய மனிதனின் கட்டிலில் மகனைக் கிடத்திவிட்டு, கதவைப் பூட்டி வெளியே போனாள்.

And she went up and laid him upon the bed of the man of God, and shut the door: and going out,

22 அவள் தன் கணவனைக் கூப்பிட்டு, “தயவுசெய்து உம்முடைய வேலையாட்களில் ஒருவனையும், ஒரு கழுதையையும் அனுப்பும். நான் இறைவனுடைய மனிதனிடம் அவசரமாகப் போய்த் திரும்பி வரவேண்டும்” என்றாள்.

She called her husband, and said: Send with me, I beseech thee, one of thy servants, and an ass that I may run to the man of God, and come again.

23 அப்பொழுது அவன், “ஏன் இன்று அவரிடம் போகிறாய்? இன்று ஓய்வுநாளல்ல; அமாவாசை நாளும் அல்ல” என்று கேட்டான். அதற்கு அவள், “அது பரவாயில்லை. நான் போகவேண்டியிருக்கிறது” என்று கூறினாள்.

And he said to her: Why dost thou go to him? today is neither new moon nor sabbath. She answered: I will go.

24 கழுதையில் சேணம் கட்டி, வேலைக்காரனைப் பார்த்து, “விரைவாகப் போ, நான் சொன்னாலொழிய வேகத்தைக் குறைக்காதே” என்று சொன்னாள்.

And she saddled an ass, and commanded her servant: Drive, and make haste, make no stay in going. And do that which I bid thee.

25 அந்தப்படியே அவள் புறப்பட்டு கர்மேல் மலையில் இருந்த இறைவனுடைய மனிதனிடம் போனாள். இறைவனின் மனிதன் தூரத்திலே அவளைக் கண்டு தன் வேலைக்காரனான கேயாசியைப் பார்த்து, “பார்! அதோ சூனேமியாள்.

So she went forward, and came to the man of God to mount Carmel: and when the mall of God saw her coming towards, he said to Giezi his servant: Behold that Sunamitess.

26 நீ அவளைச் சந்திக்கும்படியாக ஓடிப்போய் அவளிடம், ‘நீ சுகமாயிருக்கிறாயா? உன் கணவன் சுகமாயிருக்கிறானா? உன் பிள்ளை சுகமாயிருக்கிறானா?’” என்று கேள் என்றான். அவள், “நாங்கள் எல்லோரும் சுகமாயிருக்கிறோம்” என்று கூறினாள்.

Go therefore to meet her, and say to her: Is all well with thee, and with thy husband, and with thy son? and she answered: Well.

27 அவள் மலையின்மேல் இருந்த இறைவனுடைய மனிதனிடம் வந்தபோது, அவனுடைய கால்களைப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டாள். கேயாசி அவளை அப்பால் தள்ளிவிடுவதற்காக முன்பாக வந்தபோது இறைவனுடைய மனிதன் அவனைப் பார்த்து, “அவளை விடு, அவளுடைய ஆத்துமா வேதனையால் கசப்படைந்திருக்கிறது. ஆனால் யெகோவா அதை எனக்கு மறைத்ததோடு ஏன் என்றும் எனக்குச் சொல்லவில்லை” என்றான்.

And when she came to the man of God to the mount, she caught hold on his feet: and Giezi came to remove her. And the man of God said: Let her alone for her soul is in anguish, and the Lord hath hid it from me, and hath not told me.

28 அப்பொழுது அவள், “என் தலைவனே, எனக்கு ஒரு மகன் வேண்டுமென்று நான் உம்மிடம் கேட்டேனா? எனக்கு அதிக எதிர்பார்ப்பைக் கொடுக்கவேண்டாமென்று நான் உமக்குச் சொல்லவில்லையா?” என்றாள்.

And she said to him: Did I ask a son of my lord? did I not say to thee: Do not deceive me?

29 எலிசா கேயாசியிடம்: “உன் மேலுடையைப் பட்டிக்குள் சொருகிக்கொண்டு என் தடியையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு ஓடு. யாரையாகிலும் நீ சந்தித்தால் அவனை வாழ்த்தாதே. யாராவது உன்னை வாழ்த்தினால் நீ மறுமொழி கொடுக்காதே. நீ ஓடிப்போய் பையனின் முகத்தின்மேல் என் தடியை வை” என்றான்.

Then he said to Giezi: Gird up thy loins, and take my staff in thy hand, and go. If any man meet thee, salute him not: and if any man salute thee, answer him not: and lay my staff upon the face of the child.

30 ஆனால் அந்தப் பிள்ளையின் தாயோ எலிசாவைப் பார்த்து, “யெகோவா வாழ்கிறதும், நீர் வாழ்கிறதும் நிச்சயம்போலவே நான் உம்மை விட்டுப் போகமாட்டேன் என்பதும் நிச்சயம்” என்றாள். எனவே அவன் எழுந்து அவளைப் பின்தொடர்ந்தான்.

But the mother of the child said: As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. He arose, therefore, and followed her.

31 கேயாசி அவர்களுக்குமுன் போய், எலிசாவின் தடியைப் பையனின் முகத்தின்மேல் வைத்தான். ஆனால் எந்த விதமான சத்தமோ, பதிலோ வரவில்லை. அதனால் கேயாசி திரும்பிப்போய் எலிசாவைச் சந்தித்து, “பையன் கண்விழிக்கவில்லை” எனக் கூறினான்.

But Giezi was gone before them, and laid the staff upon the face of the child, and there was no voice nor sense: and he returned to meet him, and told him, saying: The child is not risen.

32 எலிசா வீட்டுக்கு வந்தபோது அவனுடைய கட்டிலின்மேல் அந்தப் பையன் இறந்து கிடந்தான்.

Eliseus therefore went into the house, and behold the child lay dead on his bed.

33 அவன் உள்ளே போய் இருவரையும் வெளியே விட்டுக் கதவைப் பூட்டி யெகோவாவை நோக்கி மன்றாடினான்.

And going in he shut the door upon him, and upon the child, and prayed to the Lord.

34 அதன்பின் அவன் கட்டிலின்மேல் ஏறி அந்தப் பையனின் வாயோடு வாயும், கண்களோடு கண்களும், கைகளோடு கைகளுமாக வைத்து பையனின்மேல் படுத்தான். உடனே அந்தப் பையனின் உடல் சூடாகியது.

And he went up, and lay upon the child: and he put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he bowed himself upon him, and the child’s flesh grew warm.

35 எலிசா எழுந்து தன் அறைக்குள் அங்குமிங்குமாக நடந்தான். அதன்பின் கட்டிலில் ஏறி பையனின்மேல் இன்னொருமுறை முன்போல படுத்தான். அப்பொழுது அந்தப் பையன் ஏழுமுறை தும்மி தன் கண்களைத் திறந்தான்.

Then he returned and walked in the house, once to and fro: and he went up, and lay upon him: and the child gaped seven times, and opened his eyes.

36 அப்பொழுது எலிசா கேயாசியை வரும்படி அழைத்து, “சூனேமியாளைக் கூப்பிடு” என்றான். அவன் அப்படியே செய்தான். அவள் வந்தபோது எலிசா, “உன் மகனைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுபோ” என்றான்.

And he called Giezi, and said to him: Call this Sunamitess. And she being called, went in to him: and he said: Take up thy son.

37 அவள் உள்ளே வந்து எலிசாவின் கால்களில் விழுந்து தரைமட்டும் பணிந்தாள். பின்பு தன் மகனைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு வெளியே போனாள்.

She came and fell at his feet, and worshipped upon the ground: and took up her son, and went out.

38 எலிசா கில்காலுக்குத் திரும்பிப்போனான், அப்போது அந்நாட்டில் பஞ்சம் ஏற்பட்டிருந்தது. ஒரு நாள் இறைவாக்கினர் கூட்டம் வந்து அவனுடன் பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கும்போது, அவன் தன் வேலையாளைப் பார்த்து, “அந்தப் பெரிய பானையை அடுப்பில் வைத்து இந்த மனிதருக்குக் கொஞ்சம் கூழ் காய்ச்சு” என்றான்.

And Eliseus returned to Galgal, and there was a famine in the land, and the sons of the prophets dwelt before him. And he said to one of his servants: Set on the great pot, and boil pottage for the sons of the prophets.

39 அவர்களில் ஒருவன் வயல்வெளிக்கு மூலிகைச் செடிகளைப் பறிப்பதற்காக போகையில், ஒரு காட்டுக் கொம்மட்டிக் கொடியைக் கண்டான். அதன் காய்களைப் பிடுங்கி தன் மடியை நிரப்பினான். அவன் திரும்பிவந்தபோது, அவை என்ன காய்கள் என்று ஒருவரும் அறியாதிருந்தும் அவைகளை வெட்டி கூழிருந்த பானைக்குள் போட்டான்.

And one went out into the field to gather wild herbs: and he found something like a wild vine, and gathered of it wild gourds of the field, and filled his mantle, and coming back he shred them into the pot of pottage, for he knew not what it was.

40 அதன்பின் அவர்கள் கூழ் குடிப்பதற்காக எல்லோருக்கும் அதை ஊற்றிக் கொடுத்தார்கள். அவர்கள் அதைக் குடிக்கத் தொடங்கியவுடனேயே, “இறைவனுடைய மனுஷனே! பானைக்குள் சாவு இருக்கிறது” என்று பலமாகக் கத்தினார்கள். அதை அவர்களால் குடிக்க முடியவில்லை.

And they poured it out for their companions to eat: and when they had tasted of the pottage, they cried out, saying: Death is in the pot, O man of God. And they could not eat thereof.

41 அப்பொழுது எலிசா அவர்களிடம், “சிறிது மாவைக் கொண்டுவாருங்கள்” என்றான். அதை அவன் அந்தப் பானைக்குள் போட்டு, “இப்பொழுது இதை இந்த மனிதருக்குப் பரிமாறுங்கள், அவர்கள் குடிக்கட்டும்” என்றான். அதன்பின் எந்த விதமான தீங்கும் பானைக்குள் இருக்கவில்லை.

But he said: Bring some meal. And when they had brought it, he cast it into the pot, and said: Pour out for the people, that they may eat. And there was now no bitterness in the pot.

42 ஒரு மனிதன் பாகால் சாலீஷாவிலிருந்த இறைவனுடைய மனிதனுக்கு தன் விளைச்சலின் முதற்பலனிலிருந்து தயாரிக்கப்பட்ட இருபது வாற்கோதுமை அப்பங்களையும், கொஞ்சம் புதிய தானியக் கதிர்களையும் சாக்குப்பையில் கொண்டுவந்தான். அப்பொழுது எலிசா, “இதை இந்த மக்களுக்குச் சாப்பிடக் கொடு” என்றான்.

And a certain man came from Baalsalisa bringing to the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty leaves of barley, and new corn in his scrip. And he said: Give to the people, that they may eat.

43 அப்பொழுது அவனுடைய வேலையாள், “இதை நான் எப்படி நூறு பேருக்குப் பங்கிடுவேன்” என்று கேட்டான். ஆனால் எலிசா அதற்கு, “அதை இந்த மக்களுக்குச் சாப்பிடும்படி கொடு. ஏனென்றால் யெகோவா சொல்வது இதுவே: ‘அவர்கள் சாப்பிட்டு கொஞ்சம் மீதமும் இருக்கும்’ என்கிறார்” என்றான்.

And his servant answered him: How much is this, that I should set it before a hundred men? He said again: Give to the people, that they may eat: for thus saith the Lord: They shall eat, and there shall be left.

44 அப்படியே அவன் அதை அவர்களுக்குப் பரிமாறினான். யெகோவாவின் வார்த்தையின்படியே அவர்கள் சாப்பிட்டு சில மீதியாயும் விடப்பட்டிருந்தன.

So he set it before them: and they ate, and there was left according to the word of the Lord.
