1 யோசியா அரசனானபோது எட்டு வயதுடையவனாயிருந்தான். இவன் எருசலேமில் முப்பத்தொரு வருடங்கள் ஆட்சிசெய்தான்; இவனுடைய தாயின் பெயர் எதிதாள். இவள் போஸ்காத் நாட்டைச் சேர்ந்த அதாயாவின் மகள்.

Eight years old was Josiah when he became king, and thirty and one years did he reign in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Yedidah, the daughter of 'Adayah of Bozkath.

2 அவன் யெகோவாவின் பார்வையில் சரியானதைச் செய்து, தன் தந்தையான தாவீதின் எல்லா வழிகளிலும் நடந்தான். அவன் இடது புறமாவது வலது புறமாவது விலகவில்லை.

And he did what is right in the eyes of the Lord, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right or to the left.

3 யோசியா அரசன் தன் ஆட்சியின் பதினெட்டாம் வருடத்தில், மெசுல்லாமின் மகனான அத்சலியாவின் மகனாகிய சாப்பான் என்கிற செயலாளரை யெகோவாவின் ஆலயத்துக்கு அனுப்பினான்.

And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the son of Azalyahu, the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of the Lord, saying,

4 யோசியா அவனிடம், “நீ பிரதான ஆசாரியனான இல்க்கியாவிடம் போய், மக்களிடமிருந்து வாசல் காவலாளர் சேகரித்து யெகோவாவின் ஆலயத்திற்குள் கொண்டுவந்த பணத்தை ஆயத்தப்படுத்தும்படி சொல்.

Go up to Chilkiyahu the high-priest, that he may collect up all the money which is brought into the house of the Lord, which the door-keepers have gathered from the people:

5 யெகோவாவினுடைய ஆலய வேலையை மேற்பார்வை செய்ய நியமிக்கப்பட்டவர்களிடம் அதை ஒப்புவி. அதை யெகோவாவினுடைய ஆலயத்தைப் பழுதுபார்ப்பவர்களுக்குக் கூலியாகக் கொடுக்கும்படி சொல்.

And let them deliver it into the hand of those who overlook the workmen, that have been appointed as overseers of the house of the Lord; and let them give it to those who do the work who are in the house of the Lord, to repair the breaches of the house:

6 இதைச் தச்சர், கட்டிட வேலையாட்கள், கொல்லரிடமும் கொடுக்கச்சொல். அதைக்கொண்டு ஆலயத் திருத்த வேலைக்கு வேண்டிய மரங்களையும், வெட்டப்பட்ட கற்களையும் வாங்கும் படியும் சொல்.

Unto the carpenters, and the builders, and the masons, and to buy timber and hewn stones to repair the house.

7 ஆனாலும் அவர்கள் நேர்மையாய் நடப்பவர்கள் என்பதால், அவர்களிடம் ஒப்படைக்கப்பட்ட பணத்துக்கு அவர்கள் செலவு விபரம் காட்டவேண்டியதில்லை என்றும் இல்க்கியாவிடம் சொல்” என்றான்.

Nevertheless shall there be no reckoning made with them for the money that is delivered into their hand, because they deal faithfully.

8 அப்பொழுது ஆசாரியன் இல்க்கியா செயலாளரிடம், “நான் சட்டப் புத்தகத்தை யெகோவாவின் ஆலயத்தில் கண்டெடுத்தேன்” என்றான். இல்க்கியா சாப்பானிடம் அதைக் கொடுக்க, சாப்பான் அதை வாசித்தான்.

And Chilkiyahu the high-priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, A book of the law have I found in the house of the Lord. And Chilkiyah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

9 அப்பொழுது செயலாளராகிய சாப்பான் அரசனிடம் போய், “உம்முடைய அதிகாரிகள் ஆலயத்திலிருந்த பணத்தை எடுத்து யெகோவாவினுடைய ஆலய வேலையை செய்பவர்களிடமும், மேற்பார்வை செய்பவர்களிடமும் ஒப்படைத்துள்ளார்கள்” என்று அறிவித்தான்.

And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, Thy servants have taken out all the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of those who overlook the workmen, that have been appointed overseers of the house of the Lord.

10 மேலும் செயலாளராகிய சாப்பான், “ஆசாரியன் இல்க்கியா எனக்கு ஒரு புத்தகத்தை தந்திருக்கிறான்” என்று சொல்லி அரசனுக்கு முன்பாக அதை வாசித்தான்.

And Shaphan the scribe also told the king, saying, A book hath Chilkiyahu the priest given me. And Shaphan read it before the king.

11 அந்த சட்டப் புத்தகத்தின் வார்த்தைகளை அரசன் கேட்டபோது, தன் மேலுடையைக் கிழித்தான்.

And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.

12 அதன்பின் அவன் ஆசாரியன் இல்க்கியாவுக்கும், சாப்பானின் மகன் அகீக்காமுக்கும், மிகாயாவின் மகன் அக்போருக்கும், செயலாளராகிய சாப்பானுக்கும், அரசனின் உதவியாளன் அசாயாவுக்கும் இந்த உத்தரவைக் கொடுத்தான்:

And the king commanded Chilkiyah the priest, and Achikam the son of Shaphan, and 'Achbor the son of Michayah, and Shaphan the scribe, and 'Assahyah a servant of the king's, saying,

13 “நீங்கள் போய், கண்டெடுக்கப்பட்ட புத்தகத்தில் எழுதப்பட்டுள்ளதைப் பற்றி, எனக்காகவும், நாட்டு மக்களுக்காகவும், முழு யூதாவுக்காகவும் யெகோவாவிடம் விசாரித்துக் கேளுங்கள். எங்கள் முற்பிதாக்கள் இந்தப் புத்தகத்திலுள்ள வார்த்தைகளுக்குக் கீழ்ப்படியாமற்போனதால், எங்களுக்கு எதிராகப் பற்றியெரியும் யெகோவாவின் கோபம் பெரியதாயிருந்தது. அதில் எங்களுக்கு எழுதப்பட்டுள்ள எல்லாவற்றின்படியும் அவர்கள் நடக்கவில்லை.”

Go ye, inquire of the Lord in my behalf, and in behalf of the people, and in behalf of all Judah, concerning the words of this book that hath been found; for great is the wrath of the Lord that hath been kindled against us, because our fathers did not hearken unto the words of this book, to do in accordance with all that is prescribed concerning us.

14 அப்படியே ஆசாரியனான இல்க்கியா, அகீக்காம், அக்போர், சாப்பான், அசாயா என்பவர்கள் இறைவாக்கினள் உல்தாளிடம் போனார்கள். அவள் அர்காசின் மகனான திக்வாவின் மகன் சல்லூம் என்னும் ஆசாரிய ஆடைகளைப் பராமரிப்பவனின் மனைவி. அவள் எருசலேமின் இரண்டாம் வட்டாரத்தில் குடியிருந்தாள்.

And Chilkiyahu the priest, and Achikam, and 'Achbor, and Shaphan, and 'Assahyah, went unto Chuldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah the son of Charchass, the keeper of the wardrobe; [now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the suburb; ] and they spoke unto her.

15 அவள் அவர்களிடம், “இஸ்ரயேலின் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா சொல்வது இதுவே: என்னிடம் உங்களை அனுப்பிய மனிதனிடம் நீங்கள் போய்,

And she said unto them, Thus hath said the Lord the God of Israel, Say unto the man that hath sent you to me,

16 ‘யெகோவா சொல்வது இதுவே: யூதாவின் அரசன் வாசித்த புத்தகத்தில் எழுதப்பட்டிருக்கிற எல்லாவற்றின்படியும், இந்த இடத்துக்கும் இதில் வாழும் மக்களுக்கும் நான் அழிவைக் கொண்டுவரப் போகிறேன்.

Thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon its inhabitants, all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read;

17 ஏனென்றால் அவர்கள் என்னைக் கைவிட்டு, வேறு தெய்வங்களுக்குத் தூபங்காட்டி, தங்கள் கைகளால் செய்த எல்லா விக்கிரகங்களினாலும் என்னைக் கோபப்படுத்தினார்கள். அதனால் என்னுடைய கோபம் இந்த இடத்துக்கு எதிராக மூண்டு எரியும். அது தணிக்கப்படமாட்டாது’ என்கிறார்.

Because they have forsaken me, and have burnt incense unto other gods, in order to provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands: therefore is my wrath kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.

18 யெகோவாவிடம் விசாரித்துவரும்படி உங்களை அனுப்பிய யூதா அரசனிடம் நீங்கள் போய்ச் சொல்லுங்கள், ‘நீ கேட்ட வார்த்தைகளைப்பற்றி இஸ்ரயேலின் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா கூறுவது இதுவே:

But with respect to the king of Judah who sendeth you to inquire of the Lord, thus shall ye say to him, Thus hath said the Lord the God of Israel, Concerning the words which thou hast heard;

19 இந்த இடத்துக்கு எதிராகவும், அதன் குடிகளுக்கு எதிராகவும் அவர்கள் சபிக்கப்பட்டவர்களும், பயனற்றவர்களுமாவார்கள் என்று நான் கூறியதை நீ கேட்டாய். அப்போது நீ உன் இருதயத்தில் உணர்த்தப்பட்டவனாக யெகோவாவுக்கு முன்பாக உன்னைத் தாழ்த்தி, உன் உடைகளைக் கிழித்து எனக்கு முன்பாக அழுதாய். இதனால் நான் உன் வேண்டுதலைக் கேட்டிருக்கிறேன் என்று யெகோவா அறிவிக்கிறார்.

Because thy heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the Lord, when thou heardest what I had spoken against this place, and against its inhabitants, that they should become an astonishment and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me: I also have heard it, saith the Lord.

20 ஆகையினால் நான் உன்னை உன் முற்பிதாக்களுடன் சேர்த்துக்கொள்வேன். நீ சமாதானத்துடன் அடக்கம் செய்யப்படுவாய். நான் இந்த இடத்துக்குக் கொண்டுவரப்போகும் ஒரு அழிவையும் நீ காணமாட்டாய்’ என்று யெகோவா கூறுகிறார்” என்று சொன்னாள். அவளுடைய இந்தப் பதிலை அவர்கள் அரசனிடம் கொண்டுபோனார்கள்.

Therefore, behold, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered unto thy graves in peace; and thy eyes shall not look on all the evil which I am bringing over this place. And they brought the king word again.
