1 ஆசாவின் மகன் யோசபாத் அவனுக்குப்பின் அவனுடைய இடத்தில் அரசனாகி இஸ்ரயேலுக்கு எதிராகத் தன்னை பலப்படுத்திக் கொண்டான்.
Asa’s son Jehoshaphat reigned in his place, and he strengthened himself against Israel.
2 அவன் யூதாவிலுள்ள எல்லா அரணான பட்டணங்களிலும் இராணுவவீரர்களை நிறுத்தினான். அத்துடன் அவன் யூதாவிலும், தன் தகப்பன் ஆசா கைப்பற்றியிருந்த எப்பிராயீம் பட்டணங்களிலும் காவற் படையையும் வைத்தான்.
He stationed troops in every fortified city of Judah and put garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that his father Asa had captured.
3 யெகோவா யோசபாத்துடன்கூட இருந்தார். ஏனெனில் அவனுடைய ஆட்சியின் ஆரம்ப வருடங்களில் தனது தகப்பன் தாவீது பின்பற்றிய வழிகளில் அவன் நடந்தான். பாகால்களிடம் ஆலோசனை கேட்கவில்லை.
Now the LORD was with Jehoshaphat because he walked in the earlier ways of his father David. He did not seek out the Baals,
4 அவன் தன் முற்பிதாக்களின் இறைவனைத் தேடி, இஸ்ரயேலின் பழக்கங்களைவிட அவரது கட்டளைகளையே பின்பற்றினான்.
but he sought the God of his father and walked by His commandments rather than the practices of Israel.
5 யெகோவா அரசாட்சியை அவனுடைய கட்டுப்பாட்டின்கீழ் நிலைநிறுத்தினார். யூதா மக்கள் எல்லோரும் யோசபாத்துக்கு அன்பளிப்புகளைக் கொண்டு வந்தனர். அதனால் அவன் மிகுந்த செல்வமும், கனமும் பெற்றான்.
So the LORD established the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah brought him tribute, so that he had an abundance of riches and honor.
6 அவனுடைய இருதயம் யெகோவாவினுடைய வழிகளைப் பின்பற்ற உறுதிகொண்டது. மேலும் அவன் யூதாவிலிருந்து வழிபாட்டு மேடைகளையும், அசேரா விக்கிரக தூண்களையும் அகற்றிப்போட்டான்.
And his heart took delight in the ways of the LORD; furthermore, he removed the high places and Asherah poles from Judah.
7 அவனுடைய ஆட்சியின் மூன்றாம் வருடத்தில், யூதாவின் பட்டணங்களில் உள்ளவர்களுக்குக் கற்றுக்கொடுப்பதற்கு பென்னாயில், ஒபதியா, சகரியா, நெதனெயேல், மிகாயா ஆகிய தனது அதிகாரிகளை அனுப்பினான்.
In the third year of his reign, Jehoshaphat sent his officials Ben-hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah to teach in the cities of Judah,
8 அவர்களுடன் செமாயா, நெதானியா, செபதியா, ஆசகேல், செமிராமோத், யோனத்தான், அதோனியா, தொபியா, தோபத்தோனியா ஆகிய சில லேவியர்களும், ஆசாரியர்களான எலீஷாமாவும், யெகோராமும் இருந்தார்கள்.
accompanied by certain Levites—Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah—along with the priests Elishama and Jehoram.
9 அவர்கள் யெகோவாவின் சட்டப் புத்தகத்தை எடுத்துக்கொண்டுபோய் யூதா முழுவதும் படிப்பித்தார்கள். அவர்கள் யூதாவின் பட்டணங்கள் எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் போய் அங்குள்ள மக்களுக்குப் படிப்பித்தார்கள்.
They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the LORD. They went throughout the towns of Judah and taught the people.
10 யெகோவாவைப்பற்றிய பயம் யூதாவைச் சுற்றிலுமிருந்த நாடுகளின் எல்லா அரசுகளின் மேலும் வந்தது. அதனால் அவர்கள் யோசபாத்துடன் யுத்தம் செய்யவில்லை.
And the dread of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that surrounded Judah, so that they did not make war against Jehoshaphat.
11 சில பெலிஸ்தியர் யோசபாத்திற்கு அன்பளிப்புகளையும், திறையாக வெள்ளியையும் கொண்டுவந்தார்கள். அத்துடன் அரபியரும் அவனுக்கு 7,700 செம்மறியாட்டுக் கடாக்களும், 7,700 வெள்ளாட்டுக் கடாக்களும் அடங்கிய மந்தைகளையும் கொண்டுவந்தார்கள்.
Some Philistines also brought gifts and silver as tribute to Jehoshaphat, and the Arabs brought him 7,700 rams and 7,700 goats from their flocks.
12 யோசபாத் மேலும் மேலும் வல்லமையுடையவனானான். அவன் யூதாவில் கோட்டைகளையும், களஞ்சியப் பட்டணங்களையும் கட்டினான்.
Jehoshaphat grew stronger and stronger, and he built fortresses and store cities in Judah
13 யூதாவின் பட்டணங்களில் ஏராளமாய் பொருட்கள் இருந்தன. அவன் எருசலேமில் அனுபவமிக்க இராணுவவீரரையும் வைத்திருந்தான்.
and kept vast supplies in the cities of Judah. He also had warriors in Jerusalem who were mighty men of valor.
14 இராணுவத்தில் சேர்த்துக்கொள்ளப்பட்ட குடும்பங்களின்படியான அவர்களுடைய விபரமாவது: யூதாவைச் சேர்ந்த ஆயிரம் பேர்களைக் கொண்ட பிரிவுகளுக்கான தளபதிகள்: அத்னா 3,00,000 இராணுவவீரர்களுக்குத் தளபதியாயிருந்தான்;
These are their numbers according to the houses of their fathers: From Judah, the commanders of thousands: Adnah the commander, and with him 300,000 mighty men of valor;
15 அடுத்ததாக யோகனான் 2,80,000 இராணுவவீரர்களுக்குத் தளபதியாயிருந்தான்;
next to him, Jehohanan the commander, and with him 280,000;
16 அடுத்ததாக சிக்ரியின் மகன் அமசியா 2,00,000 இராணுவவீரர்களுக்குத் தளபதியாயிருந்தான். இவன் யெகோவாவுக்குப் பணிசெய்வதற்குத் தன்னை ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தான்;
and next to him, Amasiah son of Zichri, the volunteer for the LORD, and with him 200,000 mighty men of valor.
17 பென்யமீனியரைச் சேர்ந்த எலியாதா, வில்லுகளும் கேடயங்களும் ஏந்திய 2,00,000 இராணுவவீரர்களுக்குத் தளபதியாயிருந்தான். இவன் தைரியமுள்ள வீரன்.
From Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valor, and with him 200,000 armed with bows and shields;
18 அடுத்ததாக யெகோசபாத் யுத்த ஆயுதம் தரித்த 1,80,000 இராணுவவீரர்களுக்குத் தளபதியாயிருந்தான்.
and next to him, Jehozabad, and with him 180,000 armed for battle.
19 யூதா முழுவதிலுமுள்ள அரணான பட்டணங்களில் அவன் நிறுத்தியிருந்த போர் வீரர்களைத் தவிர, அரசனின் இராணுவ பணியில் ஈடுபட்ட மனிதர் இவர்களே.
These were the men who served the king, besides those he stationed in the fortified cities throughout Judah.
