1 கொரிந்தியர் 8

1 விக்கிரகங்களுக்குப் படைக்கப்படும் உணவைக்குறித்து நான் எழுதுகிறதாவது: அனைவருக்கும் இதைக்குறித்த அறிவு உண்டென்று நமக்குத் தெரியும். ஆனால், ஒருவனில் அறிவு அகந்தையை உண்டுபண்ணுகிறது. அன்போ ஒருவனைக் கட்டியெழுப்புகிறது.

Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.

2 தனக்கு ஏதேனும் தெரியும் என ஒருவன் எண்ணினால், அவன் தான் அறியவேண்டிய விதத்தில் இன்னும் அதை அறியவில்லை.

But if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he does not yet know as he ought to know.

3 ஆனால் இறைவனில் அன்பு செலுத்துகிறவன் இறைவனால் அறியப்பட்டிருக்கிறான்.

But anyone who loves God is known by him.

4 எனவே விக்கிரகங்களுக்குப் படைக்கப்பட்ட உணவைச் சாப்பிடுவதைப்பற்றிய விஷயத்தில்: உலகத்தில் விக்கிரகம் என்பது ஒன்றுமேயில்லை, இறைவன் ஒருவரே; அவரைத்தவிர வேறு தெய்வம் இல்லை என்பதையும் நாம் அறிவோம்.

Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that no idol is anything in the world, and that there is no other God but one.

5 வானத்திலும் பூமியிலும் தெய்வங்கள் என அழைக்கப்படுபவை உண்டு என்று சிலர் சொல்கிறார்கள். இவ்வாறு அநேக, “தெய்வங்களும்” சுவாமிகளும் உண்டாயிருந்தாலும்,

For though there are things that are called “gods”, whether in the heavens or on earth—as there are many “gods” and many “lords”—

6 நமக்கோ பிதாவாகிய ஒருவரே இறைவன். அவரிடமிருந்தே எல்லாம் வந்தன. அவருக்காகவே நாம் வாழ்கிறோம்; நமக்கு ஒரே ஒரு கர்த்தரே இருக்கிறார். அவரே இயேசுகிறிஸ்து. அவர் மூலமாகவே எல்லாம் வந்தன. அவர் மூலமாகவே நாமும் வாழ்கிறோம்.

yet to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we live through him.

7 ஆனால் எல்லாக் கிறிஸ்தவர்களும், இந்த அறிவைப் பெற்றிருக்கவில்லை. சிலர் இன்னும் தாம் முன் வழிபட்ட விக்கிரக வழிபாட்டின் எண்ணங்கள் உடையவர்களாய் இருப்பதனால், அப்படியான உணவை அவர்கள் சாப்பிடும்போது, அது ஆற்றலுள்ள விக்கிரகத்திற்குப் படைக்கப்பட்ட உணவு என்றே எண்ணுகிறார்கள். அவர்களுடைய மனசாட்சி பலவீனமாய் இருப்பதனால், அது அசுத்தப்படுத்துகிறது.

However, that knowledge is not in all men. But some, with consciousness of an idol until now, eat as of a thing sacrificed to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.

8 ஆனால் நாங்கள் சாப்பிடும் உணவு, எங்களை இறைவனோடு நெருக்கமாய் கொண்டுவருவதற்கு உதவுவதில்லை. இப்படிப்பட்ட உணவை நாம் சாப்பிடாமல் விடுவதால், நாம் எதையும் இழந்து விடுவதுமில்லை. அதைச் சாப்பிடுவதால், நாம் எதையும் பெற்றுக்கொள்வதுமில்லை.

But food will not commend us to God. For neither, if we do not eat are we the worse, nor if we eat are we the better.

9 எவ்வாறாயினும், உங்கள் சுதந்தரமான செயற்பாடுகளைக்குறித்து கவனமாயிருங்கள். அது பலவீனருக்கு இடறலாய் இருக்கக்கூடாது.

But be careful that by no means does this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to the weak.

10 இப்படிப்பட்ட அறிவுள்ள நீங்கள், விக்கிரக வழிபாட்டுக் கோவிலில் இருந்து சாப்பிடுவதை, பலவீனமான மனசாட்சியுடைய ஒருவன் கண்டால், விக்கிரகங்களுக்குப் படைக்கப்பட்ட உணவைச் சாப்பிடுவதற்கு, அவனும் தூண்டப்படுவான் அல்லவா?

For if a man sees you who have knowledge sitting in an idol’s temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be emboldened to eat things sacrificed to idols?

11 பலவீனமான அந்த சகோதரன், உன்னுடைய அறிவின் நிமித்தம் அழிந்துபோகிறானே. கிறிஸ்து அவனுக்காகவும் இறந்தாரே.

And through your knowledge, he who is weak perishes, the brother for whose sake Christ died.

12 இவ்வாறாக, நீ உன் சகோதரர்களுக்கு எதிராகப் பாவம் செய்து, அவர்களுடைய பலவீனமான மனசாட்சிகளைப் புண்படுத்தினால், நீ கிறிஸ்துவுக்கு விரோதமாகவே பாவம் செய்கிறாய்.

Thus, sinning against the brothers, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.

13 ஆகையால் நான் சாப்பிடும் உணவு என் சகோதரனுக்கு பாவம் செய்வதற்கு ஏதுவாக இருக்குமானால், நான் இனியொருபோதும் இறைச்சியைச் சாப்பிடமாட்டேன். இவ்விதமாய் நான் அவனது வீழ்ச்சிக்குக் காரணமாய் இருக்கமாட்டேன். (aiōn g165)

Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will eat no meat for this age (aiōn g165), that I do not cause my brother to stumble.
