1 Mga Hari 12
1 Nagpunta si Rehoboam sa Shekem, dahil ang buong Israel ay darating sa Shekem para gawin siyang hari.
All [HYP] the people of [northern] Israel went to Shechem [city] in order to appoint Rehoboam to be their king. So Rehoboam also went there.
2 Ito ay nangyari nang marinig ito ni Jeroboam anak ni Nebat (dahil siya ay nasa Ehipto pa, kung saan siya ay tumakas mula sa kinaroroonan ni Haring Solomon; Si Jeroboam ay nanirahan sa Ehipto).
When Jeroboam, who was still in Egypt, heard about that, he returned from Egypt [to Israel].
3 Kaya siya ay isinugo at tinawag nila, at dumating si Jeroboam at buong kapulungan ng Israel; sila ay nagsalita kay Rehoboam at sinabi, “ginawang mahirap ng iyong ama ang aming pasanin.
The [leaders of the northern tribes] summoned him, and they went together [to talk] to Rehoboam. They said to him,
4 Ngayon, gawin mong madali ang mahirap na trabahong ibinigay ng iyong ama, at pagaanin mo ang mabigat na pasanin na inilagay niya sa amin, at paglilingkuran ka namin.”
“Your father [Solomon] forced us to work very hard [MET] for him. If you (lighten these loads/do not force us to work that hard), and if you charge us less taxes than we were paying to him, we will serve you [faithfully].”
5 Sinabi ni Rehoboam sa kanila, “Umalis kayo ng tatlong araw; pagkatapos bumalik kayo sa akin.” Kaya umalis ang mga tao.
He replied, “Go away, and come back three days from now [and I will give you my answer].” So those leaders and Jeroboam left.
6 Sumangguni si Haring Rehoboam sa mga matatandang lalaki na tumayo sa harapan ni Solomon na kaniyang ama habang siya ay nabubuhay; sinabi niya, “Paano ninyo ako papayuhan upang sagutin ang mga taong ito?”
Then King Rehoboam consulted the older men who had advised his father Solomon while he was still living. He asked them, “What shall I say to answer those men?”
7 Sila ay nagsalita sa kaniya at sinabi, “Kung ikaw ay magiging isang lingkod ngayon sa mga taong ito at paglilingkuran sila, at sasagutin sila sa pamamagitan ng mabubuting mga salita, palagi silang magiging mga lingkod mo.”
They replied, “If you want to serve your people well, speak kindly to those men when you reply to them. If you do that, your people will always serve you faithfully.”
8 Subalit binalewala ni Rehoboam ang ibinigay na payo ng mga matatandang lalaki sa kaniya, at sumangguni sa mga kabataan na lumaking kasama niya, na tumayo sa harapan niya.
But he ignored what the older men advised him to do. Instead, he consulted the younger men who had grown up with him, who were now (his advisors/the ones who told him what would be good to do).
9 Sinabi niya sa kanila, “Anong payoang maibibigay ninyo sa akin, upang maaari nating masagot ang mga tao na nagsalita sa akin at nagsabing, “Pagaanin ninyo ang pasanin na inilagay sa amin ng inyong ama?”
He said to them, “What should I say to the men who are asking me to reduce the [work and taxes] that my father required from them?”
10 Ang mga kabataan na lumaking kasama ni Rehoboam ay nagsalita sa kaniya, nagsabi, “Magsalita ka sa mga taong ito na nagsabi sa iyo na ang iyong amang si Solomon ang nagpabigat ng kanilang pasanin pero dapat mo itong pagaanin. Dapat mong sabihin sa kanila, “Ang hinliliit kong daliri ay makapal kaysa sa baywang ng aking ama.
They replied, “This is what you should tell them: ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.
11 Kaya ngayon, kahit na pinahirapan kayo ng aking ama sa pamamagitan ng isang mabigat na pasanin, magdadagdag ako sa inyong pasanin. Pinarusahan kayo ng aking ama sa pamamagitan ng mga latigo, ngunit parurusahan ko kayo sa pamamagitan ng mga alakdan.”
What I mean is that my father required you [to work hard and pay high taxes]. But I will make those loads heavier. [It was as though] my father whipped you, but [it will be as though] I will whip you with whips that have pieces of metal in them.’”
12 Kaya dumating si Jeroboam at ang lahat ng bayan kay Rehoboam sa ikatlong araw, gaya ng itinagubilin ng hari noong sinabi niyang, “Bumalik kayo sa akin sa ikatlong araw.”
So three days later, Jeroboam and all the leaders came to Rehoboam again, as he had told them to do.
13 Marahas na tinugon ng hari ang bayan at binalewala ang payo na ibinigay sa kaniya ng mga matatandang lalaki.
The king ignored the advice of the older men and spoke harshly to the Israeli leaders.
14 Siya ay nagsalita sa kanila bilang pagsunod sa payo ng mga nakababatang lalaki; sabi niya, “Pinagpasan kayo ng aking ama sa pamamagitan ng mabibigat na pasanin, pero magdadagdag ako ng pasanin sa inyo. Pinarusahan kayo ng aking ama sa pamamagitan ng mga latigo, pero parurusahan ko kayo sa pamamagitan ng mga alakdan.”
[He told them what the younger men had advised.] He said, “My father put heavy burdens [of work and taxes] on you, but I will put heavier burdens on you. [It was as though] he beat you with whips, but I will beat you with whips that have pieces of metal in them!”
15 Kaya hindi nga pinakinggan ng hari ang mga tao, dahil ito ay isang pagbabago ng mga pangyayari na ginawa ni Yahweh, upang maaari niyang tuparin ang kaniyang salita na kaniyang sinabi kay Ahias na taga-Silo kay Jeroboam na anak ni Nebat.
So the king did not pay any attention to the Israeli leaders. But this happened in order that what Yahweh wanted would occur, what he had told the prophet Ahijah about Jeroboam [becoming king of the ten tribes].
16 Nang makita ng buong Israel na hindi sila pinakinggan ng hari, sinagot siya ng mga tao at sinabi, “Anong bahagi mayroon kami kay David? Wala kaming mana sa anak ni Jesse! Umuwi kayo sa inyong mga tolda, Israel. Ngayon pangalagaan mo ang sarili mong bahay, David.” Kaya nagbalik ang Israel sa kanilang mga tolda.
When the Israeli leaders realized that the king did not pay any attention to what they said, they shouted, “We do not [RHQ] want anything to do with this descendant of King David! We will not pay attention to what this grandson of Jesse says! You people of Israel, let’s go home! As for this descendant of David [MTY], he can rule his own kingdom [MTY]!” So the Israeli leaders returned to their homes.
17 Pero para sa bayang Israel na nanirahan sa mga lungsod ng Juda, si Rehoboam ang naghari sa kanila.
And [after that, ] the [only Israeli] people whom Rehoboam ruled over were those who lived in the territory of [the tribe of] Judah.
18 Pagkatapos ipinadala ni Haring Rehoboam si Adoram, na siyang namamahala sa mga pinilit na mga manggagawa, pero pinagbabato siya ng buong Israel hanggang mamatay. Mabilis na tumakas si Haring Rehoboam sa kaniyang karwahe patungong Jerusalem.
Then King Rehoboam sent Adoniram [to talk to the Israeli people]. Adoniram was the man who supervised [all the men who were] forced to work [for Rehoboam]. But the Israeli people killed him by throwing stones at him. When that happened, King Rehoboam quickly got in his chariot and escaped to Jerusalem.
19 Kaya ang Israel ay naging rebelde laban sa angkan ni David hanggang sa araw na ito.
Ever since that time, the people of [the northern tribes of] Israel have been rebelling against the descendants [MTY] of [King] David.
20 Nangyari ito nang mabalitaan ng buong Israel na bumalik na si Jeroboam, ipinadala nila at tinawag siya sa kanilang kapulungan at ginawa siyang hari sa buong Israel. Walang isa man ang sumunod sa pamilya ni David, maliban lamang sa lipi ni Juda.
When the Israeli people heard that Jeroboam had returned [from Egypt], they invited him to come to a meeting, and there they appointed him to be the king of Israel. Only the people of the tribes of Judah [and Benjamin] continued to be loyal to [the kings descended from King] [MTY] David.
21 Nang dumating si Rehoboam sa Jerusalem, tinipon niya ang lahat ng lipi ni Juda at ang lipi ni Benjamin; mayroong piniling 180, 000 kalalakihan na mga sundalo, para labanan ang lipi ng Israel, para ibalik muli ang kaharian kay Rehoboam na anak ni Solomon.
When Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he gathered 180,000 of the best soldiers from the tribes [MTY] of Judah and Benjamin. He wanted them to fight against the northern tribes of [MTY] Israel [and defeat them], in order that he could [rule all the tribes of] his kingdom again.
22 Ngunit dumating ang salita ng Diyos kay Semaias, ang lingkod ng Diyos; ito ang sinabi,
But God spoke to the prophet Shemaiah and said this to him:
23 “Sabihin kay Rehoboam na anak ni Solomon, hari ng Juda, sa lahat ng lipi ni Juda at Benjamin, at sa natitirang mga tao; sabihing,
“Go and tell this to [Solomon’s son] Rehoboam, the king of Judah, and to all the people of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin and the people from the northern tribe who live in Judah:
24 'Ito ang sinasabi ni Yahweh: Hindi ninyo dapat nilulusob o nilalabanan ang inyong mga kapatid na bayang Israel. Bawat lalaki ay dapat magbalik sa kaniyang tahanan, dahil kalooban ko na mangyari ang bagay na ito.”' Kaya nakinig sila sa salita ni Yahweh at bumalik at nagpunta sa kani-kanilang daan, at sinunod nila ang kaniyang salita.
‘Yahweh says that you must not go to fight against your own relatives, the people of Israel. All of you must go home. What has happened is what Yahweh wanted to happen.’” [So Shemaiah went and told that to them, ] and they all paid attention to what Yahweh had commanded them to do, and they went home.
25 Pagkatapos itinayo ni Jeroboam ang Shekem sa burol ng bansang Efraim, at nanirahan doon. Lumipat siya mula doon at itinayo ang Penuel.
Then Jeroboam’s workers built [walls around] Shechem [city] in the hilly area [where the descendants] of Ephraim [lived], and he ruled from there for a while. He and his workers then left there and went to Peniel [town], and they built walls around that town.
26 Inaakala ni Jeroboam sa kaniyang puso, “Ngayon manunumbalik ang kaharian sa bahay ni David.
Then Jeroboam said to himself, “If my people [continue to] go to Jerusalem and offer sacrifices to Yahweh at the temple there, soon they will again become loyal to Rehoboam, the king of Judah [DOU], and they will kill me.”
27 Kung aakyat ang bayang ito para mag-alay ng mga handog sa templo ni Yahweh sa Jerusalem, sa gayon, ang puso ng mga taong ito ay manunumbalik muli sa kanilang panginoon, kay Rehoboam hari ng Juda. Papatayin nila ako at babalik sila kay Rehoboam hari ng Juda.”
28 Kaya naghanap ng payo si Haring Jeroboam at gumawa ng dalawang guyang ginto; sinabi niya sa mga tao, “Labis-labis ito para sa inyo na umakyat sa Jerusalem. Masdan ninyo, ito ang inyong mga diyos bayang Israel, na naglabas sa inyo sa lupain ng Ehipto.
So he consulted [his advisors, and then he did what they suggested]. He [told his workers to] make gold [statues of] two calves. Then he said to the people, “You have been going to Jerusalem [to worship] for a long time. It is a big trouble for you to continue going there. You people of Israel, look! These statues are the gods that brought our [ancestors] up from Egypt! [So you can worship these, here!]”
29 Naglagay siya ng isa sa Bethel at ang isa sa Dan.
He [told his workers to] place one of the statues in Bethel [city in the south] and one in Dan [city in the north].
30 Kaya naging isang kasalanan ang pagkilos na ito. Ang mga tao ay nagpunta sa isa o sa kabila, hanggang makarating sa Dan.
So [what Jeroboam did caused] the people [to] sin. Some of them went and worshiped the calf at Bethel, and others went and worshiped the other calf at Dan.
31 Gumawa si Jeroboam ng mga Templo sa mga dambana; naghirang din siya ng mga pari sa kalagitnaan ng buong bayan, na hindi mga anak na lalaki ni Levi.
[Moses had declared that only men from the tribe of Levi would be priests, but] Jeroboam also told his workers to build shrines on hilltops, and then he appointed men who were not from the tribe of Levi to be priests.
32 Nagtalaga si Jeroboam ng isang pista sa ika-walong buwan, sa ika-labing limang araw ng buwan, tulad ng pista na nasa Juda, at umakyat siya sa altar. Ginawa niya ito sa Bethel, naghahandog sa mga guya na kaniyang ginawa, at naglagay siya sa Bethel ng mga pari sa mga dambana na kaniyang ginawa.
He also appointed Adonijah and two priests, Elishama and Jehoram. They had a celebration at the end of October, like the celebration [of Living in Temporary Shelters] that occurred in Judah [each year]. On the altar [that they built] in Bethel, he offered sacrifices to the gold statues of calves that they had made, and he stationed the priests there at the shrines that his workers had built.
33 Umakyat si Jeroboam sa altar na kaniyang ginawa sa Bethel sa ika-labing limang araw ng ika-walong buwan, sa buwan na binalak niya sa sarili niyang isipan; nagtalaga siya ng isang pista para sa bayan ng Israel at umakyat sa altar para magsunog ng insenso.
Jeroboam went up to that altar on that day in October which he himself had chosen. There on that altar he burned incense [to be a sacrifice]. And he declared that the people should celebrate that festival [on that same day every year].
