Ordspråksboken 8
1 Hör, visheten ropar, och förståndet höjer sin röst.
Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding give forth her voice?
2 Uppe på höjderna står hon, vid vägen, där stigarna mötas.
On the top of high places by the way, at the cross-paths she taketh her stand.
3 Invid portarna, vid ingången till staden där man träder in genom dörrarna, höjer hon sitt rop:
Beside the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors, she crieth aloud.
4 Till eder, I man, vill jag ropa, och min röst skall utgå till människors barn.
Unto you, men, I call, and my voice is to the sons of man:
5 Lären klokhet, I fåkunnige, och I dårar, lären förstånd.
O ye simple, understand prudence; and ye foolish, understand sense.
6 Hören, ty om höga ting vill jag tala, och mina läppar skola upplåta sig till att säga vad rätt är.
Hear, for I will speak excellent things, and the opening of my lips shall be right things.
7 Ja, sanning skall min mun tala, en styggelse för mina läppar är ogudaktighet.
For my palate shall meditate truth, and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
8 Rättfärdiga äro alla min muns ord; i dem finnes intet falskt eller vrångt.
All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing tortuous or perverse in them.
9 De äro alla sanna för den förståndige och rätta för dem som hava funnit kunskap.
They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.
10 Så tagen emot min tuktan hellre än silver, och kunskap hellre än utvalt guld.
Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold:
11 Ty visheten är bättre än pärlor; allt vad härligt som finnes går ej upp emot henne.
for wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things that may be desired are not equal to it.
12 Jag, visheten, är förtrogen med klokheten, och jag råder över eftertänksam insikt.
I wisdom dwell [with] prudence, and find the knowledge [which cometh] of reflection.
13 Att frukta HERREN är att hata det onda; ja, högfärd, högmod, en ond vandel och en ränkfull mun, det hatar jag.
The fear of Jehovah is to hate evil; pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth do I hate.
14 Hos mig finnes råd och utväg; jag är förstånd, hos mig är makt.
Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am intelligence; I have strength.
15 Genom mig regera konungarna och stadga furstarna vad rätt är.
By me kings reign, and rulers make just decrees;
16 Genom mig härska härskarna och hövdingarna, ja, alla domare på jorden.
by me princes rule, and nobles, all the judges of the earth.
17 Jag älskar dem som älska mig, och de som söka mig, de finna mig.
I love those that love me; and they that seek me early shall find me.
18 Rikedom och ära vinnas hos mig, ädla skatter och rättfärdighet.
Riches and honour are with me; durable wealth and righteousness.
19 Min frukt är bättre än guld, ja, finaste guld och den vinning jag skänker bättre än utvalt silver.
My fruit is better than fine gold, yea, than pure gold; and my revenue than choice silver.
20 På rättfärdighetens väg går jag fram, mitt på det rättas stigar,
I walk in the path of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:
21 till att giva dem som älska mig en rik arvedel och till att fylla deras förrådshus.
that I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasuries.
22 HERREN skapade mig såsom sitt förstlingsverk, i urminnes tid, innan han gjorde något annat.
Jehovah possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.
23 Från evighet är jag insatt, från begynnelsen, ända ifrån jordens urtidsdagar.
I was set up from eternity, from the beginning, before the earth was.
24 Innan djupen voro till, blev jag född, innan källor ännu funnos, fyllda med vatten
When there were no depths, I was brought forth, when there were no fountains abounding with water.
25 Förrän bergens grund var lagd, förrän höjderna funnos, blev jag född,
Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth;
26 när han ännu icke hade skapat land och mark, ej ens det första av jordkretsens stoft.
while as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the beginning of the dust of the world.
27 När han beredde himmelen, var jag tillstädes, när han spände ett valv över djupet,
When he prepared the heavens I was there; when he ordained the circle upon the face of the deep;
28 när han fäste skyarna i höjden, när djupets källor bröto fram med makt,
when he established the skies above, when the fountains of the deep became strong;
29 när han satte för havet dess gräns, så att vattnet icke skulle överträda hans befallning, när han fastställde jordens grundvalar --
when he imposed on the sea his decree that the waters should not pass his commandment, when he appointed the foundations of the earth:
30 då fostrades jag såsom ett barn hos honom, då hade jag dag efter dag min lust och min lek inför hans ansikte beständigt;
then I was by him [his] nursling, and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;
31 jag hade min lek på hans jordkrets och min lust bland människors barn.
rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth, and my delights [were] with the sons of men.
32 Så hören mig nu, I barn, ty saliga äro de som hålla mina vägar.
And now, sons, hearken unto me, and blessed are they that keep my ways:
33 Hören tuktan, så att I bliven visa, ja, låten henne icke fara.
hear instruction and be wise, and refuse it not.
34 Säll är den människa som hör mig, så att hon vakar vid mina dörrar dag efter dag håller vakt vid dörrposterna i mina portar.
Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.
35 Ty den som finner mig, han finner livet och undfår nåd från HERREN.
For whoso findeth me findeth life, and obtaineth favour of Jehovah;
36 Men den som går miste om mig han skadar sig själv; alla de som hata mig, de älska döden.
but he that sinneth against me doeth violence to his own soul: all they that hate me love death.
