Jesaja 42
1 Se, över min tjänare som jag uppehåller, min utkorade, till vilken min själ har behag, över honom har jag låtit min Ande komma; han skall utbreda rätten bland folken.
Behold my servant, whom I will uphold; my elect, in whom my soul delighteth: I have put my spirit upon him, that he may bring forth justice to the nations.
2 Han skall icke skria eller ropa och icke låta höra sin röst på gatorna.
He shall not cry, nor call out aloud, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.
3 Ett brutet rör skall han icke sönderkrossa, och en tynande veke skall han icke utsläcka; han skall i trofasthet utbreda rätten.
A cracked reed will he not break, and a dimly burning wick will he not quench: unto truth shall he bring forth justice.
4 Hans kraft skall icke förtyna eller brytas, intill dess att han har grundat rätten på jorden; havsländerna vänta efter hans lag.
He shall not become fatigued and not be faint, till he have established justice on earth; and the isles shall wait for his law.
5 Så säger Gud, HERREN, han som har skapat himmelen och utspänt den, han som har utbrett jorden med vad som alstras därav, han som har givit liv åt folket som är därpå och ande åt dem som vandra där:
Thus hath said God the Lord, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and the things which come out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to those that walk thereon:
6 Jag, HERREN, har kallat dig i rättfärdighet, och jag vill fatta dig vid handen och bevara dig och fullborda i dig förbundet med folket och sätta dig till ett ljus för folkslagen,
I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will lay hold on thy hand, and will keep thee, and appoint thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the nations;
7 för att du må öppna blinda ögon och föra fångar ut ur fängelset, ja, ur fångenskapen dem som sitta i mörkret.
To open blind eyes, to bring out from the dungeon the prisoner, and out of the prison-house those that dwell in darkness.
8 Jag, HERREN, det är mitt namn; och jag giver icke min ära åt någon annan eller mitt lov åt belätena.
I am the Everlasting One, that is my name; and my glory will I not give to any other, nor my praise to graven images.
9 Se, vad jag förut förkunnade, det har nu kommit. Nu förkunnar jag nya ting; förrän de visa sig, låter jag eder höra om dem.
The former things, behold, are come to pass; and new things do I announce; before they spring forth I let you hear of them.
10 Sjungen till HERRENS ära en ny sång, hans lov från jordens ända, I som faren på havet, så ock allt vad däri är, I havsländer med edra inbyggare;
Sing unto the Lord a new song, his praise from the end of the earth; ye that go down to the sea, and all that filleth it; the isles, and their inhabitants.
11 stämmen upp, du öken med dina städer och I byar, där Kedar bor; jublen, I klippornas invånare, ropen från bergens toppar.
Let resound with song the wilderness and its cities, the villages which Kedar inhabiteth: let the inhabitants of the rocks sing, let them shout forth from the top of the mountains.
12 Given HERREN ära och förkunnen hans lov i havsländerna.
Let them give glory unto the Lord, and in the islands declare his praise.
13 HERREN drager ut såsom en hjälte, han eggar upp sig till iver såsom en krigare; han uppgiver härskri, han ropar högt och visar sin makt mot sina fiender.
The Lord—as a mighty one will he go forth, like a man of war will he arouse his vengeance: he will shout, yea, raise the war-cry; against his enemies will he show his strength.
14 I lång tid har jag tegat, jag höll mig stilla och betvang mig; men nu skall jag höja rop såsom en barnaföderska, jag vill skaffa mig luft och andas ut.
I have a long time held my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: [now] like a travailing woman will I cry; I will destroy and devour [all] together.
15 Jag skall föröda berg och höjder och låta allt gräs på dem förtorka; jag skall göra strömmar till land och låta allt gräs på dem förtorka; jag skall göra strömmar till land och låta sjöar torka ut.
I will lay waste mountains and hills, and all their herbs will I dry up; and I will change the rivers into islands, and pools will I dry up.
16 Och de blinda skall jag leda på en väg som de icke känna; på stigar som de icke känna skall jag föra dem. Jag skall göra mörkret framför dem till ljus och det som är ojämnt till jämn mark. Detta är, vad jag skall göra, och jag skall ej rygga mitt ord.
And I will cause the blind to walk on a way that they have not known; on paths that they have not known will I lead them: I will change darkness before them into light, and crooked places into plains. These are the things which I will do, and not leave them [unfulfilled].
17 Men de som förtrösta på skurna beläten och som säga till gjutna beläten: "I ären våra gudar", de skola vika tillbaka och stå där med skam.
They shall be turned back, they shall be ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to molten idols, Ye are our gods.
18 Hören, I döve; I blinde, skåden och sen.
Ye deaf, hear; and ye blind, look up, that ye may see.
19 Vem är blind, om icke min tjänare, och så döv som den budbärare jag sänder åstad?
Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger whom I send? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the servant of the Lord?
20 Du har fått se mycket, men du aktar icke därpå; fastän öronen hava blivit öppnade, lyssnar ingen till.
Thou seest many things, but observest not; the ears are open, but he heareth not.
21 Det är HERRENS behag, för hans rättfärdighets skull, att han vill låta sin lag komma till makt och ära.
The Lord willed [to do this] for the sake of his righteousness; [therefore] he magnifieth the law, and maketh it honorable.
22 Men detta är ett plundrat och skövlat folk; dess ynglingar äro alla lagda i bojor, och i fängelser hållas de gömda, de hava blivit givna till plundring, och ingen finnes, som räddar, till skövling, och ingen säger: "Giv tillbaka."
But it is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them ensnared in holes, and in prison-houses are they hidden: they are become for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore.
23 Ack att någon bland eder ville lyssna härtill, för framtiden giva akt och höra härpå!
Who among you will give ear to this? will hearken and listen, for the time to come?
24 Vem har lämnat Jakob till skövling och Israel i plundrares våld? Har icke HERREN gjort det; han, mot vilken vi hava syndat, han, på vilkens vägar man icke ville vandra och på vilkens lag man icke ville höra?
Who gave up Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to plunderers? was it not the Lord? he it is against whom we have sinned; for they would not walk in his ways, neither did they hearken unto his law.
25 Därför utgöt han över dem i sin vrede förtörnelse och krigets raseri. Och de förbrändes därav runt omkring, men besinnade det icke; de förtärdes därav, men aktade icke därpå.
Therefore hath he poured out over him the fury of his anger, and the strength of battle: and it blazed all round about him, yet he regarded it not; and it burnt on him, yet he laid it not to heart.
