1 Mosebok 48

1 En tid härefter blev det sagt till Josef: "Din fader är nu sjuk." Då tog han med sig sina båda söner, Manasse och Efraim.

And it came to pass after these things, that one said to Joseph, Lo! thy father, is sick. So he took his two sons with him, Manasseh and Ephraim.

2 Och man berättade för Jakob och sade: "Din son Josef har nu kommit till dig." Då tog Israel styrka till sig och satte sig upp i sängen.

And one told Jacob, and said—Lo! thy son Joseph, coming in unto thee. So Israel strengthened himself, and sat up on the couch.

3 Och Jakob sade till Josef: "Gud den Allsmäktige uppenbarade sig för mig i Lus i Kanaans land och välsignade mig

Then said Jacob unto Joseph, GOD Almighty, appeared unto me in Luz in the land of Canaan, —and blessed me;

4 och sade till mig: 'Se, jag skall göra dig fruktsam och föröka dig och låta skaror av folk komma av dig, och skall giva åt din säd efter dig detta land till evärdlig besittning.'

and said unto me—Behold me! about to make thee fruitful, so will I multiply thee, and give thee to become a multitude of peoples, —so will I give this land to thy seed after thee, as an age-abiding possession.

5 Dina båda söner, som äro födda åt dig i Egyptens land, innan jag kom hit till dig i Egypten, de skola nu vara mina: Efraim och Manasse skola vara mina, likasom Ruben och Simeon.

Now, therefore thy two sons who were born to thee in the land of Egypt, before I came in unto thee in Egypt, are mine! Ephraim and Manasseh, like Reuben and Simeon, shall be mine!

6 Men de barn som du har fött efter dem skola vara dina; de skola bära sina bröders namn i dessas arvedel.

But thine offspring which thou hast begotten after them, thine own shall they be, —after the name of their brethren, shall they be called in their inheritance.

7 Se, när jag kom från Paddan, dog Rakel ifrån mig i Kanaans land, under resan, då det ännu var ett stycke väg fram till Efrat; och jag begrov henne där vid vägen till Efrat." Stället heter nu Bet-Lehem.

But, as for me, when I came in from Padan, Rachel died by me, in the land of Canaan, in the way, while yet there was a stretch of country to come into Ephrath, —so I buried her there in the way to Ephrath, the same, is Bethlehem.

8 Då nu Israel fick se Josefs söner, sade han: "Vilka äro dessa?"

Then Israel saw Joseph’s sons, —and said—Who are these?

9 Josef svarade sin fader: "Det är mina söner, som Gud har givit mig här." Då sade han: "För dem hit till mig, på det att jag må välsigna dem."

And Joseph said unto his father, My sons, they are, whom God hath given me, in this place. And he said—Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, that I may bless them.

10 Och Israels ögon voro skumma av ålder, så att han icke kunde se. Så förde han dem då fram till honom, och han kysste dem och tog dem i famn.

Now, the eyes of Israel, had become dim from old age, —he could not see, —so he drew them near unto him, and kissed them, and embraced them.

11 Och Israel sade till Josef: "Jag hade icke tänkt att jag skulle få se ditt ansikte, men nu har Gud låtit mig se till och med avkomlingar av dig."

And Israel said unto Joseph, To see thine own face, had I not thought, —and lo! God hath caused me to see even thy seed!

12 Och Josef förde dem bort ifrån hans knän och föll ned till jorden på sitt ansikte.

And Joseph brought them out from beside his knees, and bowed himself down with his face towards the earth.

13 Sedan tog Josef dem båda vid handen, Efraim i sin högra hand, till vänster framför Israel, och Manasse i sin vänstra hand, till höger framför Israel, och förde dem så fram till honom.

And Joseph took them both, —Ephraim in his right hand on Israel’s left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand, on Israel’s right hand, and drew them near unto him.

14 Men Israel räckte ut sin högra hand och lade den på Efraims huvud, fastän han var den yngre, och sin vänstra hand på Manasses huvud; han lade alltså sina händer korsvis, ty Manasse var den förstfödde.

Then Israel put forth his right hand and laid it upon the head of Ephraim, though, he, was the younger, and his left hand upon the head of Manasseh, —crossing his hands, although, Manasseh, was the first-born.

15 Och han välsignade Josef och sade: "Den Gud inför vilken mina fäder, Abraham och Isak, hava vandrat, den Gud som har varit min herde från min födelse ända till denna dag,

Thus blessed he Joseph, and said, —God himself—before whom walked my fathers. Abraham and Isaac, God himself—who hath been my shepherd, since I came into being until this day; —

16 den ängel som har förlossat mig från allt ont, han välsigne dessa barn; och må de uppkallas efter mitt och mina fäders, Abrahams och Isaks, namn, och må de föröka sig och bliva talrika på jorden."

The Messenger—who hath been my redeemer from all evil—bless the lads! And may there be called upon them, my name, and the name of my fathers. Abraham and Isaac; And may they swarm into a multitude, in the midst of the earth!

17 Men när Josef såg att hans fader lade sin högra hand på Efraims huvud, misshagade detta honom, och han fattade sin faders hand och ville flytta den från Efraims huvud på Manasses huvud.

And Joseph saw that his father had laid his right hand on the head of Ephraim and it was displeasing in his eyes, —so he took hold of his father’s hand to remove it from off the head of Ephraim, on to the head of Manasseh.

18 Och Josef sade till sin fader: "Icke så, min fader; denne är den förstfödde, lägg din högra hand på hans huvud."

And Joseph said unto his father—Not so, my father! for, this, is the firstborn, lay thy right hand upon his head.

19 Men hans fader ville icke; han sade: "Jag vet det, min son, jag vet det; också av honom skall ett folk komma, också han skall bliva stor; men hans yngre broder skall dock bliva större än han, och hans avkomma skall bliva ett talrikt folk."

And his father refused, and said—I know—my son, I know! He also, shall become a people, and he also, shall become great, —but nevertheless, his younger brother, shall become greater than he, and his seed, shall become a filling up of the nations.

20 Så välsignade han dem på den dagen och sade: "Med ditt namn skall Israel välsigna, så att man skall säga: Gud göre dig lik Efraim och Manasse." Så satte han Efraim framför Manasse.

And he blessed them on that day, saying—In thee, let Israel bless himself saying, God set thee as Ephraim, and as Manasseh! So he set Ephraim before Manasseh.

21 Och Israel sade till Josef: "Se, jag dör; men Gud skall vara med eder och föra eder tillbaka till edra fäders land.

And Israel said unto Joseph: Lo! I, am about to die, —but it shall come to pass that, God will be with you, and will take you back into the land of your fathers.

22 Och utöver vad jag giver dina bröder giver jag dig en särskild höjdsträcka som jag med mitt svärd och min båge har tagit från amoréerna."

But, I, have given to thee one mountain-track above thy brethren, —which I took out of the hand of the Amorite, with my sword and with my bow.
