2 Mosebok 1
1 Och dessa äro namnen på Israels söner, som kommo till Egypten; med Jakob kommo de, var och en med sitt hus:
These ben the names of the sones of Israel, that entriden into Egipt with Jacob; alle entriden with her housis;
2 Ruben, Simeon, Levi och Juda,
Ruben, Symeon,
3 Isaskar, Sebulon och Benjamin,
Leuy, Judas, Isachar, Zabulon, and Benjamin,
4 Dan och Naftali, Gad och Aser.
Dan, and Neptalim, Gad, and Aser.
5 Tillsammans utgjorde de som hade utgått från Jakobs länd sjuttio personer; men Josef var redan förut i Egypten.
Therfor alle the soules of hem that yeden out of `the hipe of Jacob weren seuenti and fyue.
6 Och Josef dog och alla hans bröder och hela det släktet.
Forsothe Joseph was in Egipt; and whanne he was deed, and alle hise brithren, and al his kynrede,
7 Men Israels barn voro fruktsamma och växte till och förökade sig och blevo övermåttan talrika, så att landet blev uppfyllt av dem.
the sones of Israel encreessiden, and weren multiplied as buriounnyng, and thei weren maad strong greetli, and filliden the lond.
8 Då uppstod en ny konung över Egypten, en som icke visste av Josef.
A newe kyng, that knewe not Joseph, roos in the meene tyme on Egipt, and seide to his puple, Lo!
9 Och denne sade till sitt folk: "Se, Israels barns folk är oss för stort och mäktigt.
the puple of the sones of Israel is myche, and strongere than we;
10 Välan, låt oss då gå klokt till väga med dem; eljest kunde de ännu mer föröka sig; och om ett krig komme på, kunde de förena sig med våra fiender och begynna krig mot oss och sedan draga bort ur landet."
come ye, wiseli oppresse we it, lest perauenture it be multiplied; and lest, if batel risith ayens vs, it be addid to oure enemyes, and go out of the lond, whanne we ben ouercomun.
11 Alltså satte man arbetsfogdar över dem och förtryckte dem med trälarbeten. Och de måste bygga åt Farao förrådsstäder, Pitom och Raamses.
And so he made maistris of werkis souereyns to hem, that thei schulden turmente hem with chargis. And thei maden citees of tabernaclis to Farao, Fiton, and Ramesses.
12 Men ju mer man förtryckte dem, dess mer förökade de sig, och dess mer utbredde de sig, så att man begynte gruva sig för Israels barn.
And bi hou myche thei oppressiden hem, bi so myche thei weren multiplied, and encreessiden more.
13 Därför pålade egyptierna Israels barn ytterligare tvångsarbeten
And Egipcians hatiden the sones of Israel, and turmentiden, and scorneden hem;
14 och förbittrade deras liv med hårt arbete på murbruk och tegel och med alla slags arbeten på marken korteligen, med tvångsarbeten av alla slag, som de läto dem utföra

15 Och konungen i Egypten talade till de hebreiska kvinnor -- den ena hette Sifra, den andra Pua -- som hjälpte barnaföderskorna,
Forsothe the kyng of Egipt seide to the mydwyues of Ebrews, of whiche oon was clepid Sefora, the tother Fua;
16 han sade: "När I förlösen de hebreiska kvinnorna, så sen efter, då de föda: om det är ett gossebarn, så döden det; är det ett flickebarn, så må det leva."
and he commaundide to hem, Whanne ye schulen do the office of medewyues to Ebrew wymmen, and the tyme of childberyng schal come, if it is a knaue child, sle ye him; if it is a womman, kepe ye.
17 Men hjälpkvinnorna fruktade Gud och gjorde icke såsom konungen i Egypten hade sagt till dem, utan läto barnen leva.
Forsothe the medewyues dredden God, and diden not bi the comaundement of the kyng of Egipt, but kepten knaue children.
18 Då kallade konungen i Egypten hjälpkvinnorna till sig och sade till dem: "Varför gören I så och låten barnen leva?"
To whiche clepid to hym the kyng seide, What is this thing which ye wolden do, that ye wolden kepe the children?
19 Hjälpkvinnorna svarade Farao: "De hebreiska kvinnorna äro icke såsom de egyptiska. De äro kraftigare; förrän hjälpkvinnan kommer till dem, hava de fött."
Whiche answeriden, Ebrew wymmen ben not as the wymmen of Egipt, for thei han kunnyng of the craft of medewijf, and childen bifore that we comen to hem.
20 Och Gud lät det gå väl för hjälpkvinnorna; och folket förökade sig och blev mycket talrikt.
Therfor God dide wel to medewyues; and the puple encreesside, and was coumfortid greetli.
21 Eftersom hjälpkvinnorna fruktade Gud, lät han deras hus förkovras.
And for the mydewyues dredden God, he bildide `housis to hem.
22 Då bjöd Farao allt sitt folk och sade: "Alla nyfödda gossebarn- skolen I kasta i Nilfloden, men all flickebarn mån I låta leva."
Therfor Farao comaundide al his puple, and seide, What euer thing of male kynde is borun to Ebrewis, `caste ye into the flood; what euer thing of wymmen kynde, kepe ye.
