2 Samuelsboken 14

1 Men Joab, Serujas son, märkte att konungens hjärta var vänt mot Absalom.

And Joab son of Zeruial knows that the heart of the king [is] on Absalom,

2 Då sände Joab till Tekoa och lät därifrån hämta en klok kvinna och sade till henne: "Låtsa att du har sorg, och kläd dig i sorgkläder och smörj dig icke med olja, utan skicka dig såsom en kvinna som i lång tid har haft sorg efter en död.

and Joab sends to Tekoah, and takes a wise woman from there, and says to her, “Please feign yourself a mourner, and now put on garments of mourning, and do not anoint yourself with oil, and you have been as a woman mourning for the dead [for] these many days,

3 Gå så in till konungen och tala till honom såsom jag säger dig." Joab lade nu orden i hennes mun.

and you have gone to the king, and spoken to him, according to this word”; and Joab puts the words into her mouth.

4 Och kvinnan från Tekoa talade med konungen; hon föll ned till jorden på sitt ansikte och bugade sig och sade: "Hjälp, o konung!"

And the woman of Tekoah speaks to the king, and falls on her face to the earth, and pays respect, and says, “Save, O king.”

5 Konungen sade till henne: "Vad fattas dig?" Hon svarade: "Ack, jag är änka; min man är död.

And the king says to her, “What do you [want]?” And she says, “I [am] truly a widow woman, and my husband dies,

6 Och din tjänarinna hade två söner; dessa båda kommo i träta med varandra ute på marken, där ingen fanns, som kunde träda emellan och hindra dem; den ene slog då ned den andre och dödade honom.

and your maidservant has two sons; and both of them strive in a field, and there is no deliverer between them, and one strikes the other, and puts him to death;

7 Och nu har hela släkten rest sig upp mot din tjänarinna, och de säga: 'Giv hit honom som slog ned sin broder, så att vi få döda honom, därför att han har tagit sin broders liv och dräpt honom; på det sättet förgöra vi ock arvingen.' På det att efter min man varken namn eller efterkommande må finnas på jorden, vilja de utsläcka den gnista av mig, som ännu är kvar."

and behold, the whole family has risen against your maidservant, and say, Give up him who strikes his brother, and we put him to death for the life of his brother whom he has slain, and we also destroy the heir; and they have quenched my coal which is left—so as not to set a name and remnant on the face of the ground for my husband.”

8 Då sade konungen till kvinnan: "Gå hem igen; jag vill giva befallning om dig."

And the king says to the woman, “Go to your house, and I give charge concerning you.”

9 Kvinnan från Tekoa sade till konungen: "På mig, o min herre konung, och på min faders hus vile missgärningen, men konungen och hans tron vare utan skuld."

And the woman of Tekoah says to the king, “On me, my lord, O king, [is] the iniquity, and on the house of my father; and the king and his throne [are] innocent.”

10 Konungen sade: "Om någon säger något åt dig, så för honom till mig; han skall sedan icke mer antasta dig.

And the king says, “He who speaks to you, and you have brought him to me, then he does not add to come against you anymore.”

11 Hon sade: "Ja, må konungen tänka på HERREN, sin Gud, så att blodshämnaren icke får göra olyckan större, och så att de icke förgöra min son." Då sade han: "Så sant HERREN lever, icke ett hår av din son skall falla på jorden."

And she says, “Please let the king remember by your God YHWH, that the redeemer of blood does not add to destroy, and they do not destroy my son”; and he says, “YHWH lives; if there falls [even one] hair of your son to the earth.”

12 Men kvinnan sade: "Låt din tjänarinna tala ännu ett ord till min herre konungen." Han sade: "Tala."

And the woman says, “Please let your maidservant speak a word to my lord the king”; and he says, “Speak.”

13 Då sade kvinnan: "Varför är du då så sinnad mot Guds folk? När konungen talar så, då ligger ju däri att han själv bär på skuld, eftersom konungen icke låter sin förskjutne son komma tillbaka.

And the woman says, “And why have you thought thus concerning the people of God? Indeed, the king is speaking this thing as a guilty one, in that the king has not brought back his outcast;

14 Vi måste ju alla dö och äro då såsom vatten som spilles på jorden, vilket icke kan samlas upp igen. Men Gud tager icke livet bort, utan han tänker ut vad göras kan, för att den förskjutne icke må förbliva förskjuten och skild från honom.

for we surely die, and [are] as water which is running down to the earth, which is not gathered, and God does not accept a person, and has devised plans in that the outcast is not outcast by Him.

15 Och att jag nu har kommit för att tala detta till min herre konungen, det har skett därför att folket förskräckte mig. Då tänkte din tjänarinna: Jag vill dock tala med konungen; kanhända skall konungen uppfylla sin trälinnas önskan.

And now that I have come to speak this word to my lord the king, [it is] because the people made me afraid, and your maidservant says, Please let me speak to the king; it may be the king does the word of his handmaid,

16 Ja, konungen skall lyssna till sin trälinna och rädda mig från den mans hand, som vill förgöra både mig och min son från Guds arvedel.

for the king listens to deliver his handmaid out of the paw of the man [seeking] to destroy me and my son together out of the inheritance of God,

17 Och din tjänarinna tänkte: Min herre konungens ord skall giva mig ro. Ty min herre konungen är lik Guds ängel däri att han hör allt, både gott och ont. Och nu vare HERREN, din Gud, med dig.

and your maidservant says, Please let the word of my lord the king be for ease; for as a messenger of God so [is] my lord the king, to understand the good and the evil; and your God YHWH is with you.”

18 Då svarade konungen och sade till kvinnan: "Dölj icke för mig något av det varom jag nu vill fråga dig." Kvinnan sade: "Min herre konungen tale."

And the king answers and says to the woman, “Please do not hide from me the thing that I am asking you”; and the woman says, “Please let my lord the king speak.”

19 Då sade konungen: "Har icke Joab sin hand med i allt detta?" Kvinnan svarade och sade: "Så sant du lever, min herre konung: om min Herre konungen talar något, så kan ingen komma undan det, vare sig åt höger eller åt vänster. Ja, det är din tjänare Joab som har bjudit mig detta, och han har lagt i din tjänarinnas mun allt vad jag har sagt.

And the king says, “Is the hand of Joab with you in all this?” And the woman answers and says, “Your soul lives, my lord, O king, none [turn] to the right or to the left from all that my lord the king has spoken; for your servant Joab commanded me, and he put all these words in the mouth of your maidservant.

20 För att giva saken ett annat utseende har din tjänare Joab handlat på detta sätt; men min herre liknar i vishet Guds ängel och vet allt som sker på jorden."

Your servant Joab has done this thing in order to bring around the appearance of the thing, and my lord [is] wise, according to the wisdom of a messenger of God, to know all that [is] in the land.”

21 Så sade då konungen till Joab: "Välan, jag vill göra såsom du önskar. Gå nu och för tillbaka den unge mannen Absalom."

And the king says to Joab, “Now behold, you have done this thing; and go, bring back the young man Absalom.”

22 Då föll Joab ned till jorden på sitt ansikte och bugade sig och välsignade konungen; och Joab sade: "I dag märker din tjänare att jag har funnit nåd för dina ögon, min herre konung, eftersom konungen uppfyller sin tjänares önskan."

And Joab falls on his face to the earth, and pays respect, and blesses the king, and Joab says, “Today your servant has known that I have found grace in your eyes, my lord, O king, in that the king has done the word of his servant.”

23 Och Joab stod upp och begav sig till Gesur och förde Absalom till Jerusalem.

And Joab rises and goes to Geshur, and brings in Absalom to Jerusalem,

24 Men konungen sade: "Han får begiva sig till sitt hus, men han får icke komma inför mitt ansikte. Då begav sig Absalom till sitt hus, och kom icke inför konungens ansikte.

and the king says, “Let him turn around to his house, and he does not see my face.” And Absalom turns around to his house, and he has not seen the face of the king.

25 Men i hela Israel fanns ingen så skön man som Absalom, ingen som man så mycket prisade: från hans fotblad upp till hans hjässa fanns icke något fel på honom

And there was no man [so] beautiful in all Israel like Absalom, to praise greatly; from the sole of his foot even to his crown there was no blemish in him;

26 Och när han lät klippa håret på sitt huvud -- vid slutet av vart år lät han klippa det, ty det blev honom då så tungt att han måste låta klippa det -- så befanns det, att när man vägde håret från hans huvud, då vägde det två hundra siklar, efter konungsvikt.

and in his shaving his head—and it has been at the end of year by year that he shaves [it], for it [is] heavy on him, and he has shaved it—he has even weighed out the hair of his head—two hundred shekels by the king’s weight.

27 Och åt Absalom föddes tre söner och en dotter, som fick namnet Tamar; hon var en skön kvinna.

And there are born to Absalom three sons and one daughter, and her name [is] Tamar; she was a woman of beautiful appearance.

28 När Absalom hade bott två hela år i Jerusalem utan att få komma inför konungens ansikte,

And Absalom dwells in Jerusalem [for] two years of days, and he has not seen the face of the king;

29 sände han bud efter Joab, i avsikt att skicka denne till konungen; men han ville icke komma till honom. Och han sände bud ännu en gång, men han ville ändå icke komma.

and Absalom sends to Joab, to send him to the king, and he has not been willing to come to him; and he sends again a second time, and he has not been willing to come.

30 Då sade han till sina tjänare: "I sen att Joab där har ett åkerstycke vid sidan av mitt, och på det har han korn; gån nu dit och tänden eld därpå." Så tände då Absaloms tjänare eld på åkerstycket.

And he says to his servants, “See, the portion of Joab [is] by the side of mine, and he has barley there; go and burn it with fire”; and the servants of Absalom burn the portion with fire.

31 Då stod Joab upp och gick hem till Absalom och sade till honom: "Varför hava dina tjänare tänt eld på mitt åkerstycke?"

And Joab rises and comes to Absalom in the house, and says to him, “Why have your servants burned the portion that I have with fire?”

32 Absalom svarade Joab: "Jag sände ju till dig och lät säga: Kom hit, så att jag kan skicka dig till konungen och låta säga: 'Varför fick jag komma hem från Gesur? Det hade varit bättre för mig, om jag ännu vore kvar där.' Nu vill jag komma inför konungens ansikte; och finnes någon missgärning hos mig, så må han döda mig.

And Absalom says to Joab, “Behold, I sent to you, saying, Come here, and I send you to the king to say, Why have I come in from Geshur? [It was] good for me while I [was] there—and now, let me see the king’s face, and if there is iniquity in me then you have put me to death.”

33 Då gick Joab till konungen och sade honom detta. Denne kallade då till sig Absalom, och han kom till konungen; och han föll ned för honom på sitt ansikte och bugade sig till jorden inför konungen. Och konungen kysste Absalom.

And Joab comes to the king, and declares [it] to him, and he calls to Absalom, and he comes to the king, and bows himself to him, on his face, to the earth, before the king, and the king gives a kiss to Absalom.
