2 Krönikeboken 24

1 Joas var sju år gammal, när han blev konung, och han regerade fyrtio år i Jerusalem. Hans moder hette Sibja, från Beer-Seba.

Joash [is] a son of seven years in his reigning, and he has reigned forty years in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Zibiah of Beer-Sheba.

2 Och Joas gjorde vad rätt var i HERRENS ögon, så länge prästen Jojada levde.

And Joash does that which is right in the eyes of YHWH all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

3 Och Jojada tog åt honom två hustrur, och han födde söner och döttrar.

And Jehoiada takes two wives for him, and he begets sons and daughters.

4 Därefter blev Joas betänkt på att upphjälpa HERRENS hus.

And it comes to pass after this, it has been with the heart of Joash to renew the house of YHWH,

5 Och han församlade prästerna och leviterna och sade till dem: "Faren vart år ut till Juda städer, och samlen från hela Israel in penningar till att sätta eder Guds hus i stånd; och I skolen bedriva denna sak med skyndsamhet." Men leviterna skyndade sig icke.

and he gathers the priests and the Levites, and says to them, “Go out to the cities of Judah, and gather money from all Israel to strengthen the house of your God sufficiently year by year, and you, hurry to the matter”; and the Levites have not hurried.

6 Då kallade konungen till sig översteprästen Jojada och sade till honom: "Varför har du icke tillhållit leviterna att från Juda och Jerusalem indriva den skatt som HERRENS tjänare Mose pålade, och som Israels församling skulle erlägga till vittnesbördets tabernakel?

And the king calls for Jehoiada the head and says to him, “Why have you not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the tribute of Moses, servant of YHWH, and of the assembly of Israel, for the Tent of the Testimony?

7 Ty Ataljas, den ogudaktiga kvinnans, söner hava fördärvat Gud hus; ja, allt som var helgat till HERRENS hus hava de använt till Baalerna."

For sons of Athaliah, the wicked one, have broken up the house of God, and also, they have prepared all the holy things of the house of YHWH for Ba‘alim.”

8 På konungens befallning gjorde man därefter en kista och ställde den utanför porten till HERREN hus.

And the king commands, and they make one chest, and put it at the gate of the house of YHWH outside,

9 Och man lät utropa i Juda och Jerusalem att den skatt som Guds tjänare Mose hade pålagt Israel i öknen skulle erläggas åt HERREN.

and give an intimation in Judah and in Jerusalem to bring to YHWH the tribute of Moses, servant of God, [laid] on Israel in the wilderness.

10 Och alla furstarna och allt folket buro fram penningar med glädje och kastade dem i kistan, till dess att allt var insamlat.

And all the heads, and all the people rejoice, and they bring in, and cast into the chest, to completion.

11 Och när tid blev att genom leviternas försorg föra kistan till de granskningsmän som konungen hade förordnat, och dessa då märkte att mycket penningar fanns i den, då kommo konungens sekreterare och översteprästens tillsyningsman och tömde kistan och buro den sedan tillbaka till dess plats. Så gjorde de gång efter annan och samlade in penningar i myckenhet.

And it comes to pass, at the time one brings in the chest for the inspection of the king by the hand of the Levites, and at their seeing that the money [is] abundant, that a scribe of the king has come in, and an officer of the head-priest, and they empty the chest, and take it up and turn it back to its place; thus they have done day by day, and gather money in abundance.

12 Därefter lämnade konungen och Jojada dessa åt den som skulle utföra arbetet på HERRENS hus, och lejde stenhuggare och timmermän till att upphjälpa HERRENS hus, så ock järn- och kopparsmeder till att sätta HERRENS hus i stånd.

And the king and Jehoiada give it to the doers of the work of the service of the house of YHWH, and they are hiring hewers and craftsmen to renew the house of YHWH, and also—to craftsmen in iron and bronze to strengthen the house of YHWH.

13 Och de som utförde arbetet bedrevo det så, att arbetet gick framåt under deras händer, Och de återställde Guds hus i dess förra skick och satte det i gott stånd.

And those doing the business work, and there goes up lengthening to the work by their hand, and they establish the house of God by its proper measure, and strengthen it.

14 Och när de hade slutat, buro de återstoden av penningarna till konungen och Jojada; och man gjorde därav kärl till HERRENS hus, kärl till gudstjänsten och offren, skålar och andra kärl av guld och silver Och man offrade brännoffer i HERRENS hus beständigt, så länge Jojada levde.

And at their completing [it], they have brought in the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, and they make [with] it vessels for the house of YHWH, vessels of serving, and of offering up, and spoons, even vessels of gold and silver; and they are causing burnt-offerings to ascend in the house of YHWH continually, all the days of Jehoiada.

15 Men Jojada blev gammal och mätt på att leva och dog så; ett hundra trettio år gammal var han vid sin död.

And Jehoiada is aged and satisfied with days, and dies—a son of one hundred and thirty years in his death,

16 Och man begrov honom i Davids stad bland konungarna, därför att han hade gjort vad gott var mot Israel och mot Gud och hans hus.

and they bury him in the City of David with the kings, for he has done good in Israel, and with God and his house.

17 Men efter Jojadas död kommo Juda furstar och föllo ned för konungen; då lyssnade konungen till dem.

And after the death of Jehoiada, heads of Judah have come in, and bow themselves to the king; then the king has listened to them,

18 Och de övergåvo HERRENS, sina fäders Guds, hus och tjänade Aserorna och avgudarna. Då kom förtörnelse över Juda och Jerusalem genom den skuld de så ådrogo sig.

and they forsake the house of YHWH, God of their fathers, and serve the Asherim and the idols, and there is wrath on Judah and Jerusalem for this guilt of theirs.

19 Och profeter sändes ibland dem för att omvända dem till HERREN; och dessa varnade dem, men de lyssnade icke därtill.

And He sends among them prophets, to bring them back to YHWH, and they testify against them, and they have not given ear;

20 Men Sakarja, prästen Jojadas son, hade blivit beklädd med Guds Andes kraft, och han trädde fram inför folket och sade till dem: "Så säger Gud: Varför överträden I HERRENS bud, eder själva till ingen fromma? Eftersom I haven övergivit HERREN, har han ock övergivit eder."

and the Spirit of God has clothed Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest, and he stands above the people, and says to them, “Thus said God: Why are you transgressing the commands of YHWH, and do not prosper? Because you have forsaken YHWH, He forsakes you.”

21 Då sammansvuro de sig mot honom och stenade honom, enligt konungens befallning, på förgården till HERRENS hus.

And they conspire against him, and stone him [with] stone by the command of the king, in the court of the house of YHWH,

22 Ty konung Joas tänkte icke på den kärlek som Jojada, dennes fader, hade bevisat honom, utan dräpte hans son. Men denne sade i sin dödsstund: "Må HERREN se detta och utkräva det."

and Joash the king has not remembered the kindness that his father Jehoiada did with him, and slays his son, and in his death he said, “YHWH sees and requires.”

23 Och när året hade gått till ända, drog araméernas här upp mot honom, och de kommo till Juda och Jerusalem och utrotade ur folket alla folkets furstar. Och allt byte som de togo sände de till konungen i Damaskus.

And it comes to pass, at the turn of the year, the force of Aram has come up against him, and they come to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroy all the heads of the people from the people, and they have sent all their spoil to the king of Damascus,

24 Ty fastän araméernas här som då ryckte an utgjorde allenast en ringa skara, gav HERREN likväl i deras hand en mycket talrik här, därför att folket hade övergivit HERREN, sina fäders Gud. Så fingo de utföra straffdomen över Joas.

for with few men the force of Aram has come in, and YHWH has given into their hand a mighty force for multitude, because they have forsaken YHWH, God of their fathers; and they have executed judgments with Joash.

25 Och när dessa drogo bort ifrån honom -- ty de lämnade honom kvar illa sjuk -- sammansvuro sig hans tjänare mot honom, därför att han hade utgjutit prästen Jojadas söners blod, och dräpte honom på hans säng; detta blev hans död. Och man begrov honom i Davids stad; dock begrov man honom icke i konungagravarna.

And in their going from him—for they left him with many diseases—his servants themselves have conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slay him on his bed, and he dies; and they bury him in the City of David, and have not buried him in the graves of the kings.

26 Och de som sammansvuro sig mot honom voro Sabad, son till ammonitiskan Simeat, och Josabad, son till moabitiskan Simrit.

And these [are] those conspiring against him: Zabad son of Shimeath the Ammonitess, and Jehozabad son of Shimrith the Moabitess.

27 Men om hans söner, och om de många profetior som förkunnades mot honom, och om huru Guds hus åter upprättades, härom är skrivet i "Utläggning av Konungaboken". Och hans son Amasja blev konung efter honom.

As for his sons, and the greatness of the burden on him, and the foundation of the house of God, behold, they are written on the commentary of the scroll of the Kings; and his son Amaziah reigns in his stead.
