1 Samuelsboken 24
1 Och när Saul kom tillbaka från tåget mot filistéerna, omtalade man för honom att David var i En-Gedis öken.
And it came to pass, when Saul had returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying: Lo! David is in the wilderness of En-gedi.
2 Då tog Saul tre tusen män, utvalda ur hela Israel, och drog åstad för att söka efter David och hans män på Stenbocksklipporna.
Then Saul took three thousand chosen men, out of all Israel, —and went to seek David and his men, over the face of the rocks of the mountain-goats.
3 Och när han kom till boskapsgårdarna vid vägen, fanns där en grotta; då gick han ditin för något avsides bestyr. Men David och hans män sutto längst inne i grottan.
And he came into the sheep-folds by the way, there, being a cave, which Saul entered, to cover his feet, —David and his men, in the hinder part of the cave, having taken up their abode.
4 Då sade Davids män till honom: "Se, detta är den dag om vilken HERREN har sagt till dig: Jag vill nu giva din fiende i din hand, så att du far göra med honom vad du finner för gott." Då stod David upp och skar oförmärkt av en flik på Sauls mantel.
So David’s men said unto him—Lo! the day of which Yahweh said unto thee—Lo! I am about to deliver up thine enemy, into thy hand: therefore shall thou do unto him, as shall be good in thine eyes. And David arose, and cut off the corner of the robe which belonged to Saul, by stealth.
5 Men därefter slog Davids samvete honom, därför att han hade skurit av fliken på Sauls mantel.
And it came to pass afterwards that David’s heart smote him, —because he had cut off the corner [of the robe] which belonged to Saul.
6 Och han sade till sina män: "HERREN låte det vara fjärran ifrån mig att jag skulle göra detta mot min herre, mot HERRENS smorde, att jag skulle uträcka min hand mot honom; han är ju HERRENS Smorde."
And he said unto his men—Far be it from me, of Yahweh, that I should do this thing unto my lord, unto the Anointed of Yahweh, to thrust forth my hand against him, —for, the Anointed of Yahweh, is he!
7 Och David höll sina män tillbaka med stränga ord och tillstadde dem icke att överfalla Saul. Men när Saul hade stått upp och gått ut ur grottan och fortsatt sin färd,
So David did chide his men with the words, and did not suffer them to rise up against Saul. And, Saul, rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.
8 då stod ock David upp och gick ut ur grottan och ropade efter Saul: "Min herre konung!" När då Saul såg sig tillbaka, böjde David sig ned, med ansiktet mot jorden, och bugade sig.
Then David rose up, afterwards, and went forth out of the cave, and cried out after Saul, saying—My lord, O king! And, when Saul looked about behind him, David inclined his face to the earth, and bowed himself down.
9 Och David sade till Saul: "Varför hör du på sådana människors ord, som säga att David söker din ofärd?
Then said David to Saul, Wherefore shouldst thou hearken unto the words of the sons of earth, saying, —Lo! David is seeking thy hurt?
10 Du har ju i dag med egna ögon sett hurusom jag skonade dig, när HERREN i dag hade givit dig i min hand i grottan Och man uppmanade mig att dräpa dig; jag tänkte: 'Jag vill icke uträcka min hand mot min herre; han är ju HERRENS Smorde.
Lo! this day, have thine own eyes seen, how Yahweh had delivered thee up, to-day, into my hand in the cave, and, when one bade me slay thee, I looked with compassion upon thee, —and I said—I will not thrust forth my hand against my lord, for, the Anointed of Yahweh, is he!
11 Se själv, min fader, ja, se här fliken av din mantel i min hand. Ty därav att jag skar av fliken på din mantel, men icke dräpte dig, må du märka och se att jag icke har velat göra något ont eller begå någon förbrytelse, och att jag icke har försyndat mig mot dig, fastän du traktar efter att taga mitt liv.
But, my father, see, yea, see, the corner of thy robe in my hand, —for, in that I cut off the corner of thy robe, and yet did not slay thee, know thou, and see, that there is not in my hand either wrong or transgression, neither have I sinned against thee, yet art thou hunting my life, to take it.
12 HERREN skall döma mellan mig och dig, och HERREN skall hämnas mig på dig, men min hand skall icke röra dig.
Let Yahweh do justice betwixt me and thee, and let Yahweh avenge me of thee, —but, mine own hand, shall not be upon thee.
13 Det är såsom det gamla ordspråket säger: 'Från de ogudaktiga kommer vad ogudaktigt är'; därför skall hand icke röra dig."
As saith the proverb of the ancients, From the lawless, proceedeth lawlessness, —mine own hand, therefore shall not be upon thee.
14 Efter vem har Israels konung dragit ut? Efter vem är det du jagar? Efter en död hund, efter en enda liten loppa!
After whom, hath the king of Israel come forth? After whom, art thou in pursuit? After a dead dog! after a single flea!
15 Så vare då HERREN domare och döme mellan mig och dig; må han se härtill och utföra min sak, ja, må han döma mig fri ifrån din hand."
Therefore shall, Yahweh, become, judge, and do justice betwixt me and thee, —that he may see, and plead my cause, and justly deliver me out of thy hand.
16 När David hade talat dessa ord till Saul, sade Saul: "De är ju din röst, min son David." Och Saul brast ut i gråt.
And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Thy voice, is this, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.
17 Och han sade till David: "Du är rättfärdigare än jag, ty du har bevisat mig gott, under det jag har bevisat dig ont.
And he said unto David, More righteous, art thou than I, for, thou, hast requited me, good, but, I, have requited thee, evil.
18 Du har i dag låtit mig se din godhet mot mig, därigenom att du icke har dräpt mig, fastän HERREN hade överlämnat mig i din hand.
Thou, then, hast told to-day, how thou hast dealt with me, for good, —how, when Yahweh had surrendered me into thy hand, thou didst not slay me.
19 Ty när någon träffar på sin fiende, plägar han då låta honom gå sin väg i ro? HERREN vedergälle dig med sitt goda för vad du denna dag har gjort mig.
Yet, when a man findeth his enemy, will he let him get easily away? Yahweh, then, give thee, good, reward for what, this day, thou hast done unto me.
20 Och nu vet jag väl att du skall bliva konung, och att Israels konungadöme skall förbliva i din hand.
Now, therefore, lo! I know that thou, shalt indeed become king, —and that the kingdom of Israel, shall be established in thy hand.
21 Men lova mig nu med ed vid HERREN att du icke utrotar mina avkomlingar efter mig och icke utplånar mitt namn ur min faders hus."
Now, therefore, swear unto me by Yahweh, that thou wilt not eat off my seed, after me, —and wilt not destroy my name out of the house my father.
22 Då svor David Saul denna ed. Därefter drog Saul hem; men David och hans män drogo upp till borgen.
So David sware unto Saul, —and Saul departed unto his own house, but, David and his men, went up on the stronghold.
