1 Därför kommer nu följande bud till eder, I präster.
And now, O ye Priests, this commandement is for you.
2 Om I icke hörsammen det och akten därpå, så att I given mitt namn ära, säger HERREN Sebaot, så skall jag sända förbannelse över eder och förbanna edra välsignelser; ja, jag har redan förbannat dem, eftersom I icke akten därpå.
If yee will not heare it, nor consider it in your heart, to giue glory vnto my Name, sayth the Lord of hostes, I will euen sende a curse vpon you, and will curse your blessings: yea, I haue cursed them alreadie, because yee doe not consider it in your heart.
3 Se, jag skall låta min näpst drabba eder avkomma, och jag skall kasta orenlighet i ansiktet på eder, orenligheten efter edra högtidsoffer; ja, I skolen själva bliva kastade i denna.
Behold, I wil corrupt your seede, and cast dongue vpon your faces, euen the dongue of your solemne feastes, and you shall be like vnto it.
4 Då skolen I förstå att jag har sänt till eder detta bud, för att mitt förbund med Levi skall bestå, säger HERREN Sebaot.
And yee shall know, that I haue sent this commandement vnto you, that my couenant, which I made with Leui, might stand, sayeth the Lord of hostes.
5 Jag hade ett förbund med honom, och däri var liv och frid. Sådant gav jag åt honom, för att han skulle frukta mig; och han fruktade mig och bävade för mitt namn.
My couenant was with him of life and peace, and I gaue him feare, and he feared mee, and was afraid before my Name.
6 Rätt undervisning var i hans mun, och ingen orätt fanns på hans läppar; fridsamt och redligt vandrade han i min umgängelse och omvände många från missgärning.
The lawe of trueth was in his mouth, and there was no iniquitie founde in his lippes: hee walked with me in peace and equitie, and did turne many away from iniquitie.
7 Ty prästens läppar skola förvara kunskap, och undervisning skall man hämta ur hans mun; han är ju HERREN Sebaots sändebud.
For the Priestes lippes shoulde preserue knowledge, and they shoulde seeke the Lawe at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the Lord of hostes.
8 Men I haven vikit av ifrån vägen; genom eder undervisning haven I kommit många på fall. I haven fördärvat förbundet med Levi, säger HERREN Sebaot.
But yee are gone out of the way: yee haue caused many to fall by the Lawe: yee haue broken the couenant of Leui, sayeth the Lord of hostes.
9 Därför har ock jag gjort eder föraktade och låga i allt folkets ögon, eftersom I icke hållen mina vägar, utan haven anseende till personen, när I handhaven undervisningen.
Therefore haue I also made you to be despised, and vile before all the people, because yee kept not my wayes, but haue beene partiall in the Lawe.
10 Hava vi icke alla en och samma fader? Har icke en och samma Gud skapat oss? Varför handla vi då trolöst mot varandra och bryta våra fäders förbund?
Haue we not all one father? hath not one God made vs? why doe we transgresse euery one against his brother, and breake the couenant of our fathers?
11 Juda har handlat trolöst, och styggelse är bedriven i Israel och i Jerusalem; ty Juda har oskärat HERRENS helgedom, den som han älskar, och de hava tagit till äkta kvinnor som dyrka främmande gudar.
Iudah hath transgressed, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Ierusalem: for Iudah hath defiled the holinesse of the Lord, which hee loued, and hath maried the daughter of a strange God.
12 Hos den man som så gör må HERREN utrota var levande själ ur Jakobs hyddor, jämväl den som frambär offergåvor till HERREN Sebaot.
The Lord will cut off the man that doeth this: both the master and the seruaunt out of the Tabernacle of Iaacob, and him that offereth an offering vnto the Lord of hostes.
13 Och ännu något annat gören I: I vållen, att HERRENS altare höljes med tårar, med gråt och klagan, så att han icke mer vill se till offergåvorna, ej heller med välbehag kan taga emot något ur eder hand.
And this haue ye done againe, and couered the altar of the Lord with teares, with weeping and with mourning: because the offering is no more regarded, neither receiued acceptably at your handes.
14 Nu frågen I: »Huru så?» Jo, HERREN var ju vittne mellan dig och din ungdoms hustru, henne som du nu har varit trolös emot, fastän hon är din maka, din äkta hustru.
Yet yee say, Wherein? Because the Lord hath beene witnesse betweene thee and the wife of thy youth, against whome thou hast transgressed: yet is shee thy companion, and the wife of thy couenant.
15 Hava vi då icke en och samma skapare, den i vilkens hand det står att vår ande bevaras? Och vad vill nu denne ene? Han vill ju hava ett gudaktigt släkte. Tagen eder därför väl till vara, så att ingen bliver trolös mot sin ungdoms hustru.
And did not hee make one? yet had hee abundance of spirit: and wherefore one? because he sought a godly seede: therefore keepe your selues in your spirit, and let none trespasse against the wife of his youth.
16 Ty jag hatar äktenskapsskillnad, säger HERREN, Israels Gud, och att man höljer sig i våld såsom i en överklädnad, säger HERREN Sebaot. Tagen eder därför väl till vara, så att I icke bliven trolösa.
If thou hatest her, put her away, sayeth the Lord God of Israel, yet he couereth the iniurie vnder his garment, saieth the Lord of hosts: therefore keepe your selues in your spirite, and transgresse not.
17 I trötten ut HERREN med edert tal. Nu frågen I: »Varmed trötta vi då ut honom?» Jo, därmed att I sägen: »Den som gör ont är ändå god i HERRENS ögon, och till sådana har han behag. Ty varför kommer icke eljest domens Gud?»
Yee haue wearied the Lord with your woordes: yet yee say, Wherein haue we wearied him? When ye say, Euery one that doeth euill, is good in the sight of the Lord, and he deliteth in them. Or where is the God of iudgement?
