Job 38
1 Och HERREN svarade Job ur stormvinden och sade:
Then Jehovah answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
2 Vem är du som stämplar vishet såsom mörker, i det att du talar så utan insikt?
Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?
3 Omgjorda nu såsom ej man dina länder; jag vill fråga dig, och du må giva mig besked.
Gird up now thy loins like a man, for I will demand of thee, and declare thou to me.
4 Var var du, när jag lade jordens grund? Säg det, om du har ett så stort förstånd.
Where were thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if thou have understanding.
5 Vem har fastställt hennes mått -- du vet ju det? Och vem spände sitt mätsnöre ut över henne?
Who determined the measures of it, if thou know? Or who stretched the line upon it?
6 Var fingo hennes pelare sina fästen, och vem var det som lade hennes hörnsten,
Upon what were the foundations of it fastened? Or who laid the cornerstone of it
7 medan morgonstjärnorna tillsammans jublade och alla Guds söner höjde glädjerop?
when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
8 Och vem satte dörrar för havet, när det föddes och kom ut ur moderlivet,
Or who shut up the sea with doors when it broke forth, like it had issued out of the womb,
9 när jag gav det moln till beklädnad och lät töcken bliva dess linda,
when I made clouds the garment of it, and thick darkness a swaddling-band for it,
10 när jag åt det utstakade min gräns och satte bom och dörrar därför,
and marked out for it my bound, and set bars and doors,
11 och sade: »Härintill skall du komma, men ej vidare, här skola dina stolta böljor lägga sig»?
and said, This far thou shall come, but no farther, and here thy proud waves shall be stayed?
12 Har du i din tid bjudit dagen att gry eller anvisat åt morgonrodnaden dess plats,
Have thou commanded the morning since thy days began, and caused the dayspring to know its place
13 där den skulle fatta jorden i dess flikar, så att de ogudaktiga skakades bort därifrån?
that it might take hold of the ends of the earth, and the wicked be shaken out of it?
14 Då ändrar den form såsom leran under signetet, och tingen stå fram såsom klädda i skrud;
It is changed as clay under the seal, and all things stand forth as a garment.
15 då berövas de ogudaktiga sitt ljus, och den arm som lyftes för högt brytes sönder.
And from the wicked their light is withheld, and the high arm is broken.
16 Har du stigit ned till havets källor och vandrat omkring på djupets botten?
Have thou entered into the springs of the sea? Or have thou walked in the recesses of the deep?
17 Hava dödens portar avslöjat sig för dig, ja, såg du dödsskuggans portar?
Have the gates of death been revealed to thee? Or have thou seen the gates of the shadow of death?
18 Har du överskådat jordens vidder? Om du känner allt detta, så låt höra.
Have thou comprehended the earth in its breadth? Declare, if thou know it all.
19 Vet du vägen dit varest ljuset bor, eller platsen där mörkret har sin boning,
Where is the way to the dwelling of light? And as for darkness, where is the place of it
20 så att du kan hämta dem ut till deras gräns och finna stigarna som leda till deras hus?
that thou should take it to the bound of it, and that thou should discern the paths to the house of it?
21 Visst kan du det, ty så tidigt blev du ju född, så stort är ju dina dagars antal!
Thou know, for thou were born then, and the number of thy days is great!
22 Har du varit framme vid snöns förrådshus? Och haglets förrådshus, du såg väl dem
Have thou entered the treasuries of the snow, or have thou seen the treasures of the hail,
23 -- de förråd som jag har sparat till hemsökelsens tid, till stridens och drabbningens dag?
which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?
24 Vet du vägen dit varest ljuset delar sig, dit där stormen sprider sig ut över jorden?
By what way is the light divided, or the east wind scattered upon the earth?
25 Vem har åt regnflödet öppnat en ränna och banat en väg för tordönets stråle,
Who has cleft a channel for the water flood, or the way for the lightning of the thunder,
26 till att sända regn över länder där ingen bor, över öknar, där ingen människa finnes,
to cause it to rain on a land where no man is, on the wilderness, in which there is no man,
27 till att mätta ödsliga ödemarker och giva växt åt gräsets brodd?
to satisfy the waste and desolate ground, and to cause the tender grass to spring forth?
28 Säg om regnet har någon fader, och vem han är, som födde daggens droppar?
Has the rain a father? Or who has begotten the drops of dew?
29 Ur vilken moders liv är det isen gick fram, och vem är hon som födde himmelens rimfrost?
Out of whose womb came the ice? And the hoary frost of heaven, who has engendered it?
30 Se, vattnet tätnar och bliver likt sten, så ytan sluter sig samman över djupet.
The waters hide themselves and become like stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.
31 Knyter du tillhopa Sjustjärnornas knippe? Och förmår du att lossa Orions band?
Can thou bind the cluster of the Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?
32 Är det du som, när tid är, för himmelstecknen fram, och som leder Björninnan med hennes ungar?
Can thou lead forth the Mazzaroth in their season? Or can thou guide the Bear with her train?
33 Ja, förstår du himmelens lagar, och ordnar du dess välde över jorden?
Do thou know the ordinances of the heavens? Can thou establish the dominion of it on the earth?
34 Kan du upphöja din röst till molnen och förmå vattenflöden att övertäcka dig?
Can thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?
35 Kan du sända ljungeldar åstad, så att de gå, så att de svara dig: »Ja vi äro redo»?
Can thou send forth lightnings, that they may go, and say to thee, Here we are?
36 Vem har lagt vishet i de mörka molnen, och vem gav förstånd åt järtecknen i luften?
Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given understanding to the mind?
37 Vem håller med sin vishet räkning på skyarna? Och himmelens läglar, vem häller ut dem,
Who can number the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the bottles of heaven
38 medan mullen smälter såsom malm och jordkokorna klibbas tillhopa?
when the dust runs into a mass, and the clods cleave fast together?
39 Är det du som jagar upp rov åt lejoninnan och stillar de unga lejonens hunger,
Can thou hunt the prey for the lioness, or satisfy the appetite of the young lions
40 när de trycka sig ned i sina kulor eller ligga på lur i snåret?
when they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?
41 Vem är det som skaffar mat åt korpen, när hans ungar ropar till Gud, där de sväva omkring utan föda?
Who provides for the raven his prey when his young ones cry to God, and wander for lack of food?
