Ordspråksboken 9
1 Visheten byggde sitt hus, och högg sju pelare;
Wisdom has built her house; she has carved out her seven pillars.
2 Och slagtade sin boskap, skänkte sitt vin, och tillredde sitt bord;
She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table.
3 Och sände sina tjenarinnor ut, till att bjuda upp på stadsens palats:
She has sent out her maidservants; she calls out from the heights of the city.
4 Den fåkunnig är, han komme hit; och till de dårar sade hon:
“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” she says to him who lacks judgment.
5 Kommer, äter af mitt bröd, och dricker af vinet, som jag skänker;
“Come, eat my bread and drink the wine I have mixed.
6 Öfvergifver det galna väsendet, så fån I lefva; och går på förståndsens väg.
Leave your folly behind, and you will live; walk in the way of understanding.”
7 Hvilken som tuktar bespottaren, han får skam igen; och den som straffar en ogudaktigan, han varder försmädad.
He who corrects a mocker brings shame on himself; he who rebukes a wicked man taints himself.
8 Straffa bespottaren intet, att han icke hatar dig; straffa den visa, han skall älska dig.
Do not rebuke a mocker, or he will hate you; rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
9 Gif dem visa, så skall han ännu visare varda; lär den rättfärdiga, så växer han till i lärdom.
Instruct a wise man, and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man, and he will increase his learning.
10 Vishetenes begynnelse är Herrans fruktan, och förstånd lärer hvad heligt är;
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
11 Ty igenom mig skola dine dagar månge varda, och dins lifs år dig flere varda.
For through wisdom your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life.
12 Äst du vis, så äst du dig vis; äst du en bespottare, så måste du umgälla det allena.
If you are wise, you are wise to your own advantage; but if you scoff, you alone will bear the consequences.
13 Men en galen ostadig qvinna, full med sqvaller, och fåvitsk;
The woman named Folly is loud; she is naive and knows nothing.
14 Sitter i sins hus dörr, på en stol, högt uppe i stadenom;
She sits at the door of her house, on a seat in the heights of the city,
15 Till att bjuda alla de der framom gå, och rättelliga vandra på sinom vägom:
calling out to those who pass by, who make their paths straight.
16 Den der fåkunnig är, han komme hit. Och till de dårar säger hon:
“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” she says to him who lacks judgment.
17 Stulet vatten är sött, och fördoldt bröd är lustigt.
“Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is tasty!”
