Ordspråksboken 3
1 Min son, förgät icke min lag, och ditt hjerta behålle min bud;
My son, do not forget my teaching; but let your heart keep my commandments:
2 Ty de skola skaffa dig långt lif, och god år, och frid.
for length of days, and years of life, and peace, will they add to you.
3 Nåd och trohet skola icke förlåta dig. Häng dem på din hals, och skrif dem uti dins hjertas taflo;
Do not let kindness and truth forsake you. Bind them around your neck. Write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 Så skall du finna ynnest och klokhet, den Gudi och menniskom täck är.
So you will find favor, and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
5 Förlåt dig på Herran af allt hjerta, och förlåt dig icke uppå ditt förstånd;
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
6 Utan tänk uppå honom i allom dinom vägom, så skall han föra dig rätt.
In all your ways remember him, and he will make your paths straight.
7 Låt dig icke tycka att du äst vis, utan frukta Herran, och vik ifrå det ondt är.
Do not be wise in your own eyes. Fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
8 Det skall vara dinom nafla helsosamt, och vederqvicka din ben.
It will be health to your body, and nourishment to your bones.
9 Hedra Herran af dina ägodelar, och af all dins årsväxts förstling;
Honor the LORD with your substance, with the first fruits of all your increase:
10 Så skola dina lador fulla varda, och dine presser med must öfverflyta.
so your storehouses will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine.
11 Min son, förkasta icke Herrans tuktan, och var icke otålig, då han straffar;
My son, do not despise the discipline of the LORD, nor resent his correction.
12 Ty hvilken Herren älskar, honom straffar han, och hafver ett behag till honom, såsom en fader till sonen.
For whom the LORD loves he disciplines, and punishes every son he accepts.
13 Säll är den menniska, som vishet finner, och den menniska, hvilko förstånd tillflyter.
Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gets understanding.
14 Ty det är bättre hafva henne än silfver, och hennes frukt bättre än guld.
For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her return is better than fine gold.
15 Hon är ädlare än perlor, och allt det du önska må, är henne icke likt.
She is more precious than rubies. None of the things you can desire are to be compared to her.
16 Långt lif är på hennes högra hand, på hennes venstra är rikedom och ära.
Length of days is in her right hand. In her left hand are riches and honor.
17 Hennes vägar äro lustige vägar, och alle hennes stigar äro frid.
Her ways are ways of pleasantness. All her paths are peace.
18 Hon är lifsens trä allom dem som fatta henne; och salige äro de som hålla henne;
She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her, and those who hold on to her are blessed
19 Ty Herren hafver grundat jordena genom vishet, och genom sitt råd tillredt himmelen.
By wisdom the LORD founded the earth. By understanding, he established the heavens.
20 Genom hans ord äro djupen åtskild, och skyarna med dagg drypande vordne.
By his knowledge, the depths were broken up, and the skies drop down the dew.
21 Min son, låt henne icke ifrå din ögon vika, så skall du lyckosam och klok varda.
My son, let them not depart from your eyes. Keep sound wisdom and discretion:
22 Det skall vara dine själs lif, och din mun skall täck vara.
so they will be life to your soul, and grace for your neck.
23 Då skall du på dinom väg säker vandra, att din fot icke stöter sig.
Then you shall walk in your way securely, and your foot won't stumble.
24 Lägger du dig, så skall du intet frukta dig, utan sofva sötliga;
When you lie down, you will not be afraid; you will lie down, and your sleep will be sweet.
25 Att du icke betorf frukta dig för hastig förskräckelse, eller för de ogudaktigas storm, då han kommer.
Do not be afraid of sudden fear, or of the storm of the wicked when it comes:
26 Ty Herren är din tröst; han bevarar din fot, att han icke fången varder.
for the LORD will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being taken.
27 Neka dig icke att göra dem torftiga godt, om din hand af Gudi hafver magt sådant göra.
Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it.
28 Säg icke till din vän: Gack bort, och kom igen, i morgon vill jag gifva dig; der du dock det nu hafver.
Do not say to your neighbor, "Go, and come again; tomorrow I will give it to you," when you have it by you.
29 Far icke efter att göra dinom vän ondt, den uppå god tro när dig bor.
Do not devise evil against your neighbor, seeing he dwells securely by you.
30 Kifva med ingom utan sak, om han dig intet ondt gjort hafver.
Do not strive with a man without cause, if he has done you no harm.
31 Följ icke en vrång man efter, och utvälj ingen af hans vägar;
Do not envy the man of violence. Choose none of his ways.
32 Ty Herren stygges vid den affälliga, och hans hemlighet är när de fromma.
For the perverse is an abomination to the LORD, but his friendship is with the upright.
33 Uti dens ogudaktigas hus är Herrans förbannelse; men dens rättfärdigas hus varder välsignadt.
The LORD's curse is in the house of the wicked, but he blesses the habitation of the righteous.
34 Han skall bespotta de bespottare; men dem eländom skall han nåd gifva.
Surely he is scornful to scoffers, but he gives grace to the humble.
35 De vise skola ärfva äro; men om de galne än högt uppkomma, varda de likväl till skam.
The wise will inherit glory, but shame will be the promotion of fools.
