Josua 2

1 Josua, Nuns son, sände hemliga ut två spejare ifrå Sittim, och sade dem: Går och beser landet, och Jericho. De gingo åstad, och kommo in uti ene skökos hus, som het Rahab, och der lågo de.

Then Ioshua the sonne of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spie secretly, saying, Go, view the land, and also Iericho: and they went, and came into an harlots house, named Rahab, and lodged there.

2 Då vardt Konungenom i Jericho sagdt: Si, i denna nattene äro någre män inkomne ifrån Israels barn, till att bespeja landet.

Then report was made to the King of Iericho, saying, Beholde, there came men hither to night, of the children of Israel, to spie out the countrey.

3 Då sände Konungen i Jericho till Rahab, och lät säga henne: Få oss ut de män, som till dig i ditt hus komne äro; ty de äro komne till att bespeja allt landet.

And the King of Iericho sent vnto Rahab, saying, Bring foorth the men that are come to thee, and which are entred into thine house: for they be come to search out all the land.

4 Men qvinnan fördolde de två männerna, och sade: Här äro väl två män inkomne till mig; men jag visste icke hvadan de voro.

(But ye woman had taken the two men, and hid them) Therefore saide she thus, There came men vnto me, but I wist not whence they were.

5 Och då jag ville låta dörrena igen, då mörkt vardt, gingo de ut, så att jag icke vet hvart de gingo; söker med hast efter dem, I fån dem väl fatt.

And when they shut the gate in the darke, the men went out, whither the men went I wote not: follow ye after them quickly, for ye shall ouertake them.

6 Men hon lät dem stiga upp på taket, och öfvertäckte dem med linstjelkar, som hon der på taket utbredt hade.

(But she had brought them vp to the roofe of the house, and hidde them with the stalkes of flaxe, which she had spread abroad vpon the roofe)

7 Men männerna sökte efter dem på den vägen till Jordan, allt intill färjostaden; och porten vardt tilläster straxt de utkomne voro, som efter dem jagade.

And certaine men pursued after them, the way to Iorden, vnto the foordes, and as soone as they which pursued after them, were gone out, they shut the gate.

8 Och förra än männerna lade sig till sofva, steg hon upp på taket;

And before they were a sleepe, she came vp vnto them vpon the roofe,

9 Och sade till dem: Jag vet, att Herren hafver gifvit eder detta landet; ty en förskräckelse för eder är fallen öfver oss, och alle landsens inbyggare äro bäfvande vordne för edor tillkommelse.

And saide vnto the men, I knowe that the Lord hath giuen you the land, and that the feare of you is fallen vpon vs, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.

10 Ty vi hafve hört, huru Herren uttorkade vattnet i röda hafvet för eder, då I drogen utur Egypten; och hvad I gjort hafven de två Amoreers Konungar, Sihon och Og, på hinsidon Jordan, huru I gåfven dem tillspillo.

For we haue heard, howe the Lord dried vp the water of the redde Sea before you, when you came out of Egypt, and what you did vnto the two Kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Iorden, vnto Sihon and to Og, whom ye vtterly destroyed:

11 Och sedan vi det hörde, vardt vårt hjerta förtvifladt, och intet mod är mer i någon man för edor tillkommelse; ty Herren edar Gud han är Gud, både uppe i himmelen, och nedre på jordene.

And when wee heard it, our heartes did faint, and there remained no more courage in any because of you: for the Lord your God, he is the God in heauen aboue, and in earth beneath.

12 Så svärjer mig nu vid Herran, efter jag hafver gjort barmhertighet med eder, att I ock gören barmhertighet med mins faders hus, och gifver mig ett vårdtecken;

Now therefore, I pray you, sweare vnto me by the Lord; that as I haue shewed you mercie, ye will also shewe mercie vnto my fathers house, and giue me a true token,

13 Att I låten lefva min fader, mina moder, mina bröder, och mina systrar, och allt det de hafva; och frälser våra själar ifrå döden.

And that yee will saue aliue my father and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they haue: and that yee will deliuer our soules from death.

14 Männerna sade till henne: Om vi icke göre barmhertighet och trohet med dig, då Herren gifver oss landet, så skall vår själ vara döden skyldig för eder, såframt du icke förråder vårt ärende.

And the men answered her, Our life for you to die, if ye vtter not this our businesse: and when the Lord hath giuen vs the lande, we will deale mercifully and truely with thee.

15 Så släppte hon dem neder med ett tåg genom ett fenster; ty hennes hus var i stadsmurenom; och hon bodde desslikes på murenom.

Then she let them downe by a corde thorowe the windowe: for her house was vpon the towne wall, and she dwelt vpon the wall.

16 Och hon sade till dem: Går uppåt berget, att de, som söka efter eder, icke möta eder, och gömmer eder der i tre dagar, så länge de komma igen, som efter eder fara; sedan går edar väg.

And she said vnto them, Goe you into the mountaine, least the pursuers meete with you, and hide your selues there three dayes, vntill the pursuers be returned: then afterwarde may yee goe your way.

17 Männerna sade till henne: Vi vilje vara denna eden qvitte, som du af oss tagit hafver;

And the men said vnto her, We will be blamelesse of this thine othe, which thou hast made vs sweare.

18 När vi komme i landet, och du icke binder detta rosenröda tåget i fenstret, med hvilko du oss nedersläppt hafver: och hafver församlat till dig i huset din fader, dina moder, dina bröder, och hela dins faders hus;

Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this cord of red threde in the window, whereby thou lettest vs downe, and thou shalt bring thy father and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy fathers houshold home to thee.

19 Och hvilken som går utom dörrena af ditt hus, hans blod vare öfver hans hufvud, och vi oskyldige; men alle de som i dino huse äro, om en hand kommer vid dem, så skall deras blod vara öfver vårt hufvud.

And whosoeuer then doeth goe out at the doores of thine house into the streete, his blood shalbe vpon his head, and we will be giltlesse: but whosoeuer shall be with thee in the house, his blood shalbe on our head, if any hande touch him:

20 Och om du något af denna vår ärende utröjer, så vilje vi vara den eden qvitte, som du af oss tagit hafver.

And if thou vtter this our matter, we will be quite of thine othe, which thou hast made vs sweare.

21 Hon sade: Vare som I sägen: och lät gå dem; och de gingo sin väg, och hon band det rosenröda tåget i fenstret.

And she answered, According vnto your wordes, so be it: then she sent them away, and they departed, and she bound the red cord in ye window.

22 Och de gingo sin väg, och kommo upp på berget, och blefvo der i tre dagar, tilldess de kommo igen, som efter dem foro: ty de hade sökt dem på alla vägar, och dock intet funnit dem.

And they departed, and came into the mountaine, and there abode three dayes, vntil the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but founde them not.

23 Så vände de två männerna tillbaka, gingo ned af berget, och foro utöfver, och kommo till Josua, Nuns son, och förtäljde honom allt, såsom de det funnit hade;

So the two men returned, and descended from the mountaine, and passed ouer, and came to Ioshua the sonne of Nun, and tolde him all things that came vnto them.

24 Och sade till Josua: Herren hafver gifvit oss allt landet i våra händer, alle landsens inbyggare äro förskräckte för oss.

Also they saide vnto Ioshua, Surely the Lord hath deliuered into our handes all the lande: for euen all the inhabitants of the countrey faint because of vs.
