Job 38
1 Och Herren svarade Job uti ett väder, och sade:
Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:
2 Hvilken är den som i sina tankar så fela vill, och talar så med oförnuft?
Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
3 Gjorda dina länder såsom en man; jag vill fråga dig: Säg, äst du så klok?
Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto Me.
4 Hvar vast du, då jag grundade jordena? Säg mig:
Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if thou hast the understanding.
5 Vetst du, ho henne hafver satt sitt mått; eller ho hafver dragit något snöre öfver henne?
Who determined the measures thereof, if thou knowest? Or who stretched the line upon it?
6 Eller hvaruppå står hennes fotafäste; eller ho hafver henne en hörnsten lagt;
Whereupon were the foundations thereof fastened? Or who laid the corner-stone thereof,
7 Då morgonstjernorna tillsammans lofvade mig, och all Guds barn fröjdade sig?
When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
8 Ho hafver tillslutit hafvet med sina dörrar, då det utbrast såsom utu moderlifve;
Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke forth, and issued out of the womb;
9 Då jag klädde det med skyar, och invefvade det i töckno, såsom i lindakläde;
When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,
10 Då jag förtog thy dess flod med minom dam, och satte thy bom och dörrar före;
And prescribed for it My decree, and set bars and doors,
11 Och sade: Allt härintill skall du komma, och icke vidare; här skola dina stolta böljor sätta sig?
And said: 'Thus far shalt thou come, but no further; and here shall thy proud waves be stayed'?
12 Hafver du i dinom tid budit morgonen, och vist morgonrodnanom sitt rum;
Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days began, and caused the dayspring to know its place;
13 Att jordenes ändar måga fattade varda, och de ogudaktige der utskuddade blifva?
That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, and the wicked be shaken out of it?
14 Inseglet skall sig förvandla såsom ler, så att de skola blifva såsom ett kläde;
It is changed as clay under the seal; and they stand as a garment.
15 Och dem ogudaktigom skall deras ljus förtaget varda, och de högfärdigas arm skall sönderbruten varda.
But from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm is broken.
16 Hafver du kommit uti hafsens grund, och vandrat uti djupsens fjät?
Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? Or hast thou walked in the recesses of the deep?
17 Hafva dödsens dörrar någon tid upplåtit sig för dig; eller hafver du sett dörrarna åt mörkret?
Have the gates of death been revealed unto thee? Or hast thou seen the gates of the shadow of death?
18 Hafver du förnummit huru bred jorden är? Låt höra, vetst du allt detta?
Hast thou surveyed unto the breadths of the earth? Declare, if thou knowest it all.
19 Hvilken är vägen dit, der ljuset bor, och hvilket är mörkrens rum;
Where is the way to the dwelling of light, and as for darkness, where is the place thereof;
20 Att du måtte aftaga dess gränso, och märka stigen till dess hus?
That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?
21 Visste du, att du skulle på den tiden född varda, och huru många dina dagar blifva skulle?
Thou knowest it, for thou wast then born, and the number of thy days is great!
22 Hafver du der varit, dädan snön kommer; eller hafver du sett, hvadan haglet kommer;
Hast thou entered the treasuries of the snow, or hast thou seen the treasuries of the hail,
23 Hvilka jag bevarat hafver intill bedröfvelsens dag, intill stridenes och örligets dag?
Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?
24 Genom hvilken vägen delar sig ljuset, och östanväder uppkommer på jordena?
By what way is the light parted, or the east wind scattered upon the earth?
25 Ho hafver utskift regnskurene sitt lopp, och ljungeldenom och dundrena vägen;
Who hath cleft a channel for the waterflood, or a way for the lightning of the thunder;
26 Så att det regnar uppå jordena, der ingen är, i öknene, der ingen menniska är;
To cause it to rain on a land where no man is, on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;
27 Att det skall uppfylla ödemarken och öknen, och kommer gräset till att växa?
To satisfy the desolate and waste ground, and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?
28 Ho är regnets fader? Ho hafver födt daggenes droppar?
Hath the rain a father? Or who hath begotten the drops of dew?
29 Utu hvars lif är isen utgången; och ho hafver födt rimfrostet under himmelen;
Out of whose womb came the ice? And the hoar-frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?
30 Att vattnet skulle fördoldt varda såsom under stenar, och djupet blifver ofvanuppå ståndandes?
The waters are congealed like stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.
31 Kan du binda tillsammans sjustjärnornas band, eller upplösa Orions band?
Canst thou bind the chains of the Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?
32 Kan du hemta morgonstjernorna fram i sin tid, eller föra vagnen på himmelen öfver sin barn?
Canst thou lead forth the Mazzaroth in their season? Or canst thou guide the Bear with her sons?
33 Vetst du, huru himmelen skall regeras; eller kan du sätta ett herradöme öfver honom på jordene?
Knowest thou the ordinances of the heavens? Canst thou establish the dominion thereof in the earth?
34 Kan du föra dina dunder högt uppe i skynom, att vattnens myckenhet dig öfvertäcker?
Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?
35 Kan du utsläppa ljungeldar, att de fara åstad, och säga: Här äre vi?
Canst thou send forth lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee: 'Here we are'?
36 Ho hafver satt visdomen uti det fördolda? Ho hafver gifvit tankomen förstånd?
Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who hath given understanding to the mind?
37 Ho är så vis, att han skyarna räkna kan? Ho kan förstoppa vattuläglarna i himmelen,
Who can number the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the bottles of heaven,
38 När stoftet är vått vordet, så att det tillhopalöper, och klimparne låda tillsammans?
When the dust runneth into a mass, and the clods cleave fast together?
39 Kan du gifva lejinnone hennes rof i jagtene; och mätta de unga lejonen;
Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lioness? Or satisfy the appetite of the young lions,
40 Så att de lägga sig uti sitt rum, och stilla ligga i kulone på vakt?
When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?
41 Ho reder korpenom mat, när hans ungar ropa till Gud, och veta icke hvar deras mat är?
Who provideth for the raven his prey, when his young ones cry unto God, and wander for lack of food?
