Job 28
1 Silfret hafver sin gång, och guldet sitt rum, der det verkas.
For there is a place for the silver, whence it comes, and a place for the gold, whence it is refined.
2 Jern tager man utaf jordene, och utaf stenar smälter man koppar.
For iron comes out of the earth, and brass is hewn out like stone.
3 På mörkret varder ju en tid ände, och finner ju någor på sistone det fördolda.
He has set a bound to darkness, and he searches out every limit: a stone [is] darkness, and the shadow of death.
4 Det springer ut en sådana bäck, att de, som bo deromkring, icke kunna gå deröfver till fots; han varder menniskomen allt för djup, och flyter sin kos.
There is a cutting off the torrent by reason of dust: so they that forget the right way are weakened; they are removed from [among] men.
5 Man får ock eld nedan utu jordene; der dock ofvantill bröd växer.
[As for] the earth, out of it shall come bread: under it has been turned up as it were fire.
6 Man finner saphir på somlig rum, och jordklimpar, der guld är uti.
Her stones are the place of the sapphire: and [her] dust [supplies] man with gold.
7 Den stigen hafver ingen fogel kunnat, och intet gamsöga sett;
[There is] a path, the fowl has not known it, neither has the eye of the vulture seen it:
8 De stolta barn hafva icke trampat honom, och intet lejon gångit deruppå.
neither have the sons of the proud trodden it, a lion has not passed upon it.
9 Bär man också handena på stenen, och grafver bergen omkull.
He has stretched forth his hand on the sharp [rock], and turned up mountains by the roots:
10 Man grafver bäcker utu hällebergen, och allt det kosteligit är, ser ögat.
and he has interrupted the whirlpools of rivers, and mine eye has seen every precious thing.
11 Man förtager strömmom vattnet, och hafver fram i ljuset det derutinnan fördoldt är.
And he has laid bare the depths of rivers, and has brought his power to light.
12 Huru vill man nu vishet finna, och hvar är rummet till förståndighet?
But whence has wisdom been discovered? and what is the place of knowledge?
13 Ingen vet hvar hon ligger; och varder icke funnen i de lefvandes lande.
A mortal has not known its way, neither indeed has it been discovered among men.
14 Afgrundet säger: Hon är icke i mig; och hafvet säger: När mig är hon icke.
The depth said, It is not in me: and the sea said, It is not with me.
15 Man kan icke gifva der penningar före, ej heller silfver uppväga, till att betala henne med.
One shall not give fine gold instead of it, neither shall silver be weighed in exchange for it.
16 Hon räknas icke vid Ophiriskt guld, eller vid kostelig onich och saphir;
Neither shall it be compared with gold of Sophir, with the precious onyx and sapphire.
17 Guld och diamant kan icke liknas dervid, ej heller kan hon tillbytas för gyldene klenodier.
Gold and crystal shall not be equalled to it, neither shall vessels of gold be its exchange.
18 Ramoth och Gabis aktar man intet; hon är högre aktad än perlor.
Coral and fine pearl shall not be mentioned: but do you esteem wisdom above the most precious things.
19 Topats af Ethiopien varder icke lika skattad emot henne, och det renaste guld gäller icke deremot.
The topaz of Ethiopia shall not be equalled to it; it shall not be compared with pure gold.
20 Hvadan kommer då visheten? Och hvar är rummet till förståndigheten?
Whence then is wisdom found? and of what kind is the place of understanding?
21 Hon är fördold för allas lefvandes ögon, och öfverskyld för foglarna under himmelen.
It has escaped the notice of every man, and has been hidden from the birds of the sky.
22 Fördömelsen och döden säga: Vi hafve med vår öron hört hennes rykte.
Destruction and Death said, We have heard the report of it.
23 Gud vet vägen dertill, och känner hennes rum.
God has well ordered the way of it, and he knows the place of it.
24 Förty han ser jordenes ända, och skådar allt det under himmelen är;
For he surveys the whole [earth] under heaven, knowing the things in the earth:
25 Så att han gifver vädrena sina vigt, och vattnena sitt matt.
all that he has made; the weight of the winds, the measures of the water.
26 Då han satte regnena ett mål före, och tordönenom och ljungeldenom sin väg,
When he made [them], thus he saw and numbered them, and made a way for the pealing of the thunder.
27 Då såg han henne, och räknade henne; tillredde henne, och fann henne;
Then he saw it, and declared it: he prepared it [and] traced it out.
28 Och sade till menniskona: Si, Herrans fruktan är vishet; och fly det onda är förståndighet.
And he said to man, Behold, godliness is wisdom: and to abstain from evil is understanding.
