Job 22
1 Då svarade Eliphas af Thema, och sade:
Then Eliphaz the Temanite replied:
2 Menar du att en man kan liknas vid Gud; eller någor är så klok, att han kan likna sig vid honom?
“Can a man be of use to God? Can even a wise man benefit Him?
3 Menar du att dem Allsmägtiga behagar, att du räknar dig så from? Eller hvad hjelper det honom, om än dine vägar utan brist voro?
Does it delight the Almighty that you are righteous? Does He profit if your ways are blameless?
4 Menar du han fruktar att straffa dig, och gå till rätta med dig?
Is it for your reverence that He rebukes you and enters into judgment against you?
5 Ja, din ondska är fast stor, och uppå din orättfärdighet är ingen ände.
Is not your wickedness great? Are not your iniquities endless?
6 Du hafver tagit af dinom broder pant utan sak; du hafver dragit kläden af dem nakna.
For you needlessly demanded security from your brothers and deprived the naked of their clothing.
7 Du hafver icke gifvit dem trötta vatten dricka; du hafver nekat dem hungroga ditt bröd.
You gave no water to the weary and withheld food from the famished,
8 Du hafver brukat våld i landena, och bott deruti med stort prål.
while the land belonged to a mighty man, and a man of honor lived on it.
9 Enkor hafver du låtit gå ohulpna, och sönderbrutit de faderlösas armar.
You sent widows away empty-handed, and the strength of the fatherless was crushed.
10 Derföre äst du omvefvad med snaro, och fruktan hafver dig hasteliga förskräckt.
Therefore snares surround you, and sudden peril terrifies you;
11 Skulle du då icke se mörkret, och vattufloden icke öfvertäcka dig?
it is so dark you cannot see, and a flood of water covers you.
12 Si, Gud är hög i himmelen, och ser stjernorna uppe i höjdene;
Is not God as high as the heavens? Look at the highest stars, how lofty they are!
13 Och du säger: Hvad vet Gud? Skulle han kunna döma det i mörkret är?
Yet you say: ‘What does God know? Does He judge through thick darkness?
14 Skyn skyler för honom, och han ser intet; han vandrar i himmelens omgång.
Thick clouds veil Him so He does not see us as He traverses the vault of heaven.’
15 Vill du akta på verldenes lopp, der de orättfärdige uti gångne äro?
Will you stay on the ancient path that wicked men have trod?
16 Hvilke förgångne äro, förr än tid var, och vattnet hafver bortsköljt deras grund;
They were snatched away before their time, and their foundations were swept away by a flood.
17 De som till Gud sade: Far ifrån oss; hvad skulle den Allsmägtige kunna göra dem?
They said to God, ‘Depart from us. What can the Almighty do to us?’
18 Ändock han uppfyllde deras hus med ägodelar; men de ogudaktigas råd vare långt ifrå mig.
But it was He who filled their houses with good things; so I stay far from the counsel of the wicked.
19 De rättfärdige skola få det se, och glädja sig; och den oskyldige skall bespotta dem.
The righteous see it and are glad; the innocent mock them:
20 Deras väsende skall försvinna, och det qvart är af dem, skall elden förtära.
‘Surely our foes are destroyed, and fire has consumed their excess.’
21 Så förlika dig nu med honom, och haf frid; derutaf skall du hafva mycket godt.
Reconcile now and be at peace with Him; thereby good will come to you.
22 Hör lagen utaf hans mun, och fatta hans tal uti ditt hjerta.
Receive instruction from His mouth, and lay up His words in your heart.
23 Om du omvänder dig till den Allsmägtiga, så skall du uppbyggd varda; och kasta det orätt är långt ifrå dine hyddo;
If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored. If you remove injustice from your tents
24 Så skall han gifva guld igen för stoft, och för sten gyldene bäcker.
and consign your gold to the dust and the gold of Ophir to the stones of the ravines,
25 Och du skall hafva guld nog, och silfver skall dig med hopom tillfalla.
then the Almighty will be your gold and the finest silver for you.
26 Då skall du hafva din lust i dem Allsmägtiga, och upplyfta ditt anlete till Gud.
Surely then you will delight in the Almighty and lift up your face to God.
27 Du skall bedja honom, och han skall höra dig; och ditt löfte skall du betala.
You will pray to Him, and He will hear you, and you will fulfill your vows.
28 Ehvad du tager dig före, det skall han låta dig väl af gå; och ljus skall skina på dina vägar.
Your decisions will be carried out, and light will shine on your ways.
29 Förty de som sig ödmjuka, dem upphöjer han; och den som sin ögon nederslår, han skall blifva frälst;
When men are brought low and you say, ‘Lift them up!’ then He will save the lowly.
30 Och den oskyldige skall hulpen varda; för sina händers renhets skull skall han hulpen varda.
He will deliver even one who is not innocent, rescuing him through the cleanness of your hands.”
