Jeremia 9

1 Ack! det jag vatten nog hade i mitt hufvud, och min ögon voro en tårekälla, att jag natt och dag begråta måtte de slagna i mitt folk.

If only my head could produce water, and my eyes be a fountain of tears! For I wish to weep day and night for those among the daughter of my people who have been killed.

2 Ack! det jag ett herberge hade i öknene, så ville jag öfvergifva mitt folk, och draga ifrå dem; ty de äro allesammans horkarlar, och en arg hop.

If only someone would give me a place for travelers in the wilderness to stay, where I could go to abandon my people. If only I could leave them, since all of them are adulterers, a band of traitors!

3 De skjuta med sina tungor allesammans lögn, och ingen sanning, och fara allt med våld i landena, och gå ifrå den ena ondskone till den andra, och akta mig intet, säger Herren.

Yahweh declares, “They tread on their bows of lies with their tongues, but it is not because of any faithfulness of theirs that they grow strong on the earth. They go from one wicked act to another. They do not know me.”

4 Hvar och en tage sig vara för sinom nästa, och tro icke heller sinom broder; ty en broder undertrycker den andra, och en vän förråder den andra.

Each of you, be on guard against your neighbor and do not trust in any brother. For every brother is certainly a deceiver, and every neighbor walks in slander.

5 En vän gäckar den andra, och tala icke ett sant ord; de vinnlägga sig derom, huru den ene skall bedraga den andra, och dem tycker illa vara, att de ännu icke kunna görat värre.

Each man mocks his neighbor and does not speak the truth. Their tongues teach deceitful things. They are exhausted from committing iniquity.

6 Der är allestäds bedrägeri ibland dem, och för bedrägeris skull vilja de icke känna mig, säger Herren.

Your dwelling is in the midst of deception; in their deceit they refuse to acknowledge me—this is Yahweh's declaration.”

7 Derföre säger Herren Zebaoth alltså: Si, jag vill smälta och probera dem; ty hvad skall jag annars göra, medan mitt folk så ställer sig?

Yahweh of hosts says this, “See, I am about to refine them and test them, for what else can I do, because of what my people have done?

8 Deras falska tungor äro mordskott; med sin mun tala de vänliga med sinom nästa; men i hjertat vakta de efter honom.

Their tongues are sharpened arrows; they speak unfaithful things. With their mouths they proclaim peace with their neighbors, but with their hearts they lie in wait for them.

9 Skulle jag nu icke sådant hemsöka uppå dem, säger Herren, och skulle min själ icke hämnas öfver sådant folk, som detta är.

Should I not punish them because of these things—this is Yahweh's declaration— and should I not avenge myself on a nation that is like this?

10 Jag måste gråta och jämra mig på bergen, och beklaga mig vid de fäbodar i öknene; ty de äro så platt förhärjade, att der bor ingen mer, och man hörer der nu intet färop mer; både himmelens foglar och djuren äro alle borto.

I will sing a song of mourning and wailing for the mountains, and a funeral song will be sung for the meadows. For they are burned so no one can pass through them. They will not hear the sound of any cattle. The birds of the skies and the animals have all fled away.

11 Och jag skall göra Jerusalem till en stenhop, och till en drakaboning; och skall ödelägga Juda städer, att der ingen inne bo skall.

So I will turn Jerusalem into piles of ruins, a hideout for jackals. I will make Judah's cities ruined places without inhabitants.”

12 Ack! att nu någor vis vore, och lade det uppå hjertat, och förkunnade hvad Herrans mun till honom säger: Hvarföre dock landet så förderfvadt och härjadt varder, likasom en ödemark, der ingen vistas?

What man is wise enough to understand this? To whom has the mouth of Yahweh spoken, and he will declare it? Why has the land perished and been destroyed like the wilderness that no one can pass through?

13 Och Herren sade: Derföre, att de öfvergifva min lag, som jag dem föregifvit hafver, och lyda intet min ord, och lefva der ej heller efter;

Yahweh says, “It is because they have abandoned my law that I set before them, because they do not listen to my voice or walk by it.

14 Utan följa sins hjertas tycko, och Baalim, såsom deras fäder dem lärt hafva.

It is because they have walked by their stubborn hearts and have followed the Baals as their fathers taught them to do.

15 Derföre säger Herren Zebaoth, Israels Gud: Si, jag skall spisa detta folket med malört, och gifva dem galla dricka.

Therefore Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, says this, 'See, I am about to make this people eat wormwood and drink poisonous water.

16 Jag skall förskingra dem ibland Hedningarna, hvilka hvarken de eller deras fäder känna, och skall sända svärd efter dem, tilldess det blifver ute med dem.

Then I will scatter them among the nations that they have not known, neither they nor their ancestors. I will send out a sword after them until I have completely destroyed them.'”

17 Så säger Herren Zebaoth: Skaffer och beställer gråterskor, att de komma; och sänder efter de som det väl kunna;

Yahweh of hosts says this, “Think about this: Summon funeral singers; let them come. Send out for women skilled at lamenting; let them come.

18 Och begråta oss med hast, att vår ögon måga rinna med tårar, och var ögnahvarf flyta med vatten;

Let them hurry and sing a mournful song over us, so our eyes may run with tears and our eyelids flow with water.

19 Att man må höra en klagogråt i Zion, nämliga alltså: Ack! huru äre vi så platt förstörde och till skam vordne? Vi måste rymma landet; ty våra boningar äro nederslagna.

For the sound of wailing is heard in Zion, 'How we are devastated. We are greatly ashamed, for we have abandoned the land since they tore down our houses.'

20 Så hörer nu, I qvinnor, Herrans ord, och edor öron fatte hans muns tal; lärer edra döttrar gråta, och den ena läre den andra klagogråt, nämliga alltså:

So you women, hear Yahweh's word; pay attention to the messages that come from his mouth. Then teach your daughters a mourning song, and each neighbor woman a funeral song.

21 Döden är igenom vår fenster infallen, och uti vår palats kommen, till att dräpa barnen på gatone, och ynglingarna i gränderna.

For death has come through our windows; it goes into our palaces. It destroys children from outside, and young men in the city squares.

22 Säg: Så säger Herren: Menniskors kroppar skola ligga såsom träck på markene, och såsom kärfvar efter skördomannen, de ingen upptager.

Declare this, 'This is Yahweh's declaration—the corpses of men will fall like dung in the fields, and like grain stalks after the reapers, and there will be no one to gather them.'”

23 Detta säger Herren: En vis berömme sig intet af sine vishet; an stark berömme sig intet af sin starkhet; en rik berömme sig intet af sin rikedom;

Yahweh says this, “Do not let the wise man take pride in his wisdom, or the warrior in his might. Do not let the wealthy man take pride in his riches.

24 Utan den som sig berömma vill, han berömme sig deraf, att han vet och känner mig, att jag är Herren, som gör barmhertighet, rätt och rättfärdighet på jordene; ty sådant behagar mig, säger Herren.

For if a man takes pride in anything, let it be in this, that he has insight and knows me. For I am Yahweh, who acts with covenant loyalty, justice and righteousness on earth. For it is in these that I take pleasure —this is Yahweh's declaration.”

25 Si, den tid kommer, säger Herren, att jag hemsöka skall alla de omskorna med de oomskorna;

“See, days are coming—this is Yahweh's declaration—when I will punish all the circumcised who are such only in their body.

26 Nämliga Egypten, Juda, Edom, Ammons barn, Moab, och alla de som bo uti de rum i öknene; ty alle Hedningar hafva oomskoren förhud; men hela Israels hus hafver oomskoret hjerta.

I will punish Egypt and Judah, Edom, the people of Ammon, Moab, and all the people who cut the hair on their heads very short. For all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel has an uncircumcised heart.”
