Jeremia 47

1 Detta är Herrans ord, som skedde till Propheten Jeremia, emot de Philisteer, förr än Pharao slog Gaza.

The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before the time that Pharaoh smote Gazzah.

2 Så säger Herren: Si, vatten skola uppkomma nordanefter, hvilka en flod göra skola, så att både landet och hvad deruppå är, och städerna, med dem som deruti bo, skola sin väg drifva; och menniskorna skola ropa, och alle landsens inbyggare jämra sig;

Thus hath said the Lord, Behold, waters are coming up out of the north, and they shall become an overflowing stream, and shall overflow the land, and what filleth it; the city, and those that dwell therein: and the men shall cry aloud, and every inhabitant of the land shall wail.

3 För den gnys skull af deras starka hästar, som der löpa, och för det buller af deras vagnar, och deras hjuls slamrande, så att fäderna icke skola se sig om efter barnen, så förtviflade skola de vara;

Because of the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his stud-horses, because of the rushing sound of his chariots, the rumbling of his wheels, fathers do not turn round to their children from their feebleness of hands;

4 För den dagen, som kommer till att förstöra, alla Philisteer, och utrota Tyrus och Zidon, samt med andra deras hjelpare; ty Herren skall förstöra de Philisteer, och de öar Caphtor.

Because of the day that cometh to devastate all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Zidon every helper that remaineth; for the Lord devastateth the Philistines, the remnant of the isle of Caphthor.

5 Gaza skall skallot varda, och Askelon, samt med de igenlefda, uti deras dalar förderfvas; huru länge vill du örliga?

Baldness is come upon Gazzah; ruined is Ashkelon with the remnant of their valley: how long yet wilt thou cut thyself?

6 O! du Herrans svärd, när vill du dock hålla upp? Far dock uti dina skido, och hvila dig, och var stilla.

Woe! thou sword of the Lord, how long yet wilt thou not be quiet? withdraw thyself into thy scabbard, take thee rest, and be still.

7 Men huru kan du uppehålla, medan Herren hafver gifvit dig befallning emot Askelon, och ställt dig emot hamnarna vid hafvet?

Yet how canst thou be quiet? When the Lord hath given it a charge, against Ashkelon, and against the sea-coast—thither hath he destined it.
