Jeremia 10
1 Hörer hvad Herren säger till eder, I af Israels hus.
“Hear the word that Yahweh is announcing to you, house of Israel.
2 Detta säger Herren: I skolen icke lära Hedningarnas sätt, och skolen intet frukta eder för himmelens tecken, såsom Hedningarna frukta.
Yahweh says this, 'Do not learn the ways of the nations, and do not be dismayed by the signs in the heavens, for the nations are dismayed by these.
3 Ty Hedningarnas gudar äro icke utan fåfängelighet; de hugga ett trä i skogenom, och mästaren gör det till med en yxa;
For the religious customs of these people are worthless. They cut down a tree in the forest, and the craftsman carves the wood.
4 Och pryder det med silf och guld, och fäster det vid, med naglar och hamrar, att det icke omkullfalla skall.
Then they decorate it with silver and gold. They strengthen it with hammer and nails so it will not fall over.
5 Sådant är nu intet annat, än öfverdragna stodar; de kunna intet tala; så måste man ock bära dem; ty de kunna intet gå. Derföre skolen I intet frukta eder för dem; förty de kunna hvarken hjelpa eller stjelpa.
What they make with their hands is like scarecrows in a cucumber field, because they, too, can say nothing, and they have to be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them, for they cannot bring about evil, nor are they able to do anything good.'”
6 Men dig, Herre, är ingen lik; du äst stor, och ditt Namn är stort, och du kan det bevisa med gerningarna.
There is no one like you, Yahweh. You are great, and your name is great in power.
7 Ho skulle icke frukta dig, du Hedningarnas Konung? Dig skall man ju lyda; ty ibland alla Hedningarnas visa, och i all Konungarike, är ingen din like.
Who does not fear you, king of the nations? For this is what you deserve, for there is no one like you among all the wise men of the nations or all their royal kingdoms.
8 De äro allesamman dårar och galne; ty ett trä måste ju vara en platt fåfäng Gudstjenst.
They are all the same, they are brutish and stupid, disciples of idols that are nothing but wood.
9 Silfskifvor förer man till på hafvet; guld ifrån Uphas, af mästare och guldsmeder beredt; gult silke och purpur kläder man uppå dem, och äro alltsammans slöga, mäns verk.
They bring hammered silver from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz made by artificers, the hands of refiners. Their clothes are blue and purple cloth. Their skillful men made all of these things.
10 Men Herren är en rätt Gud, en lefvandes Gud, en evig Konung; för hans vrede bäfvar jorden, och Hedningarna kunna icke fördraga hans trug.
But Yahweh is the true God. He is the living God and eternal king. The earth quakes at his anger, and the nations cannot endure his anger.
11 Så säger nu alltså till dem: De gudar, som himmel och jord icke gjort hafva, förgånge af jorden, och under himmelen.
You will speak to them like this, “The gods that did not make the heavens and earth will perish from the earth and from under these heavens.”
12 Men han hafver gjort jordena genom sina kraft, och verldenes krets beredt genom sina vishet; och utsträckt himmelen genom sitt förstånd.
But it was he who made the earth by his power, and he established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding he stretched out the heavens.
13 Då han dundrar, så är mycket vatten under himmelen, och drager upp dimbona ifrå jordenes anda; han gör ljungelden i regnet, och låter vädret kommer ifrå hemlig rum.
His voice makes the roar of waters in the heavens, and he brings up the mists from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain and sends out wind from his storehouse.
14 Alla menniskor äro dårar med sine konst, och alle guldsmeder stå med skam med sin beläte; ty deras beläte äro bedrägeri, och hafva intet lif.
Every man has become ignorant, without knowledge. Every metalworker is put to shame by his idols. For his cast images are frauds; there is no life in them.
15 Det är alltsammans ett fåfängt och bedrägeligit verk; de måste förgås, då de hemsökte varda.
They are useless, the work of mockers; they will perish at the time of their punishment.
16 Men sådan är icke han, som Jacobs lott är; utan han är den som all ting skapat hafver, och Israel är hans arfvedel; han heter Herren Zebaoth.
But God, the portion of Jacob, is not like these, for he is the molder of all things. Israel is the tribe of his inheritance; Yahweh of hosts is his name.
17 Tag din handel bort utu landena, du som bor i den fasta ( staden ).
Gather your bundle and leave the land, you people who have been living under the siege.
18 Ty så säger Herren: Si, jag skall i denna resone bortslunga landsens inbyggare, och så plåga dem, att de det känna skola.
For Yahweh says this, “See, I am about to throw the inhabitants of the land out this time. I will cause them distress, and they will find it to be so.”
19 Ack! min jämmer och hjertans sorg; men jag tänker, att det är min plåga; jag måste lida henne.
Woe to me! Because of my broken bones, my wound is infected. So I said, “Surely this is agony, but I must bear it.”
20 Mitt tjäll är förstördt, och all min tåg äro sönder; min barn äro borto, och icke mer för handene; ingen upprättar min hyddo igen, och mitt tjäll slår ingen upp igen.
My tent is devastated, and all of my tent cords are cut in two. They have taken my children away from me, so they no longer exist. There is no longer anyone to spread out my tent or to raise up my tent curtains.
21 Ty herdarna äro till dårar vordne, och fråga intet efter Herran; derföre kunna de ock intet rätt lära, utan förskingra hjorden.
For the shepherds are stupid and they do not seek Yahweh; so they have not prospered, and all their flock has been scattered.
22 Si, ett rykte kommer, och ett stort bäfvande af det landet norrut, att Juda städer skola ödeläggas, och till drakaboningar varda.
The report of news has arrived, “See! It is coming, a great earthquake is coming from the land of the north To make the cities of Judah into ruins, hideouts for jackals.”
23 Jag vet, Herre, att menniskones väg står icke till henne; och det står i ingens mans magt, huru han vandra eller sin gång styra skall.
I know, Yahweh, that the way of a man does not come from himself. No person walking directs his own steps.
24 Näps mig, Herre, dock med måttelighet, och icke uti dine grymhet; på det du icke skall platt göra mig till intet.
Discipline me, Yahweh, with justice, not in your anger or you would destroy me.
25 Men gjut dina vrede ut öfver Hedningarna som intet känna dig, och öfver de slägte som intet åkalla ditt Namn: ty de hafva uppfrätit och uppsvulgit Jacob; de hafva gjort en ända med honom, och hans boning förödt.
Pour your fury on the nations that do not know you and on the families that do not call on your name. For they have devoured Jacob and consumed him so as to completely destroy him and demolish his habitation.
