Hebreerbrevet 8

1 Men summan af det vi tale är detta; Vi hafvom en sådan öfversta Prest, som sitter på högra handen på majestätsens stol i himmelen;

Now of the things which we have spoken, this is the sum: We have such a High Priest, who has taken his seat at the right hand of the Majesty in the heavens--

2 Och är en skaffare öfver de heliga håfvor, och öfver det sannskyldiga tabernaklet, hvilket Gud upprest hafver, och ingen menniska.

a minister of the holy places; namely, of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man.

3 Ty hvar och en öfverste Prest varder skickad till att offra gåfvor och offer; derföre är det af nöden, att denne ock något hafver, det han offra skall.

For every high priest is constituted to offer both gifts and sacrifices. Hence, it was necessary that this High Priest, also, should have something he might offer.

4 Hvar han nu vore på jordene, så vore han icke Prest; der Prester äro, de der efter lagen offra gåfvor;

For, indeed, if he were on earth, he could not be a priest, there being priests who offer gifts according to the law.

5 Hvilke tjena eftersynene, och skugganom till de himmelska ting; såsom Mose af Gudi svaradt vardt, då han skulle fullkomna tabernaklet: Se till, sade han, att du gör allt efter den eftersyn, som dig vist är på berget.

(These perform divine service for an example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses, when about to construct the tabernacle, was admonished of God: "See, now (says he, ) that you make all things according to the type that was showed you in the Mount.")

6 Men nu hafver han fått ett bättre ämbete, såsom han ens bättre Testaments Medlare är; det ock på bättre löfte satt är.

Besides, he has now obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as he is the mediator of a better institution, which has been established upon better promises.

7 Ty om det första hade varit ostraffeligit, hade ingalunda vordit sökt rum till ett annat.

For if that first institution had been faultless, a place would not have been sought for a second.

8 Ty han straffar dem, och säger: Si, de dagar skola komma, säger Herren, att jag skall fullkomna öfver Israels hus, och Juda hus, ett nytt Testament;

But, finding fault, he says to them, "Behold, the days come, says the Lord, when I will make a new institution with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

9 Icke efter det Testamentet, som jag deras fäder gjorde, på den dag då jag tog dem vid deras hand, att utföra dem af Egypti land; efter de blefvo icke ståndande i mitt Testament, så hafver jag ock gifvit dem utu mitt sinne, säger Herren.

not according to the institution which I made with their fathers, at the time of my taking them by the hand, to lead them out of the land of Egypt--because they did not abide in my institution, I also neglected them, says the Lord.

10 Ty detta är det Testament, som jag vill göra Israels huse, efter dessa dagar, säger Herren: Jag vill gifva min lag uti deras sinne, och uti deras hjerta vill jag skrifva dem; och jag vill vara deras Gud, och de skola vara mitt folk.

Now this is the institution which I will make with the house of Israel, after these days, says the Lord. I will put my laws into their mind, and inscribe them on their hearts, and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people.

11 Och skall ingen lära sin nästa, eller sin broder, och säga: Känn Herran; ty de skola alle känna mig, ifrå den minsta ibland dem, och till den största.

And they shall not teach every man his fellow-citizen, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord; for all shall know me, from the least of them to the greatest of them.

12 Ty jag varder förblidkad öfver deras orättfärdigheter, och deras synder, och deras ondsko skall jag icke mer ihågkomma.

Because I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities I will remember no more."

13 I det han säger: Ett nytt, föråldrade han det första; det nu åldrigt och gammalt är, det är hardt vid ändan.

By saying, "a new institution," he has made the former old: now, that which is decaying and growing old, is ready to vanish away.
