1 Mosebok 34

1 Men Dina Leas dotter, den hon Jacob födt hade, gick ut till att bese dess landsens döttrar.

And Dina the daughter of Lia went out to see the women of that country.

2 Då Sichem, Hemors Heveens son, som var dess landsens herre, såg henne, tog han henne, och belägrade henne, och förkränkte henne.

And when Sichem the son of Hemor the Hevite, the prince of that land, saw her, he was in love with her: and took her away, and lay with her, ravishing the virgin.

3 Och hon låg honom hårdt på hjertat, och han hade pigona kära, och talade ljufliga med henne.

And his soul was fast knit unto her, and whereas she was sad, he comforted her with sweet words.

4 Och Sichem sade till sin fader Hemor: Tag mig den pigona till hustru.

And going to Hemor his father, he said: Get me this damsel to wife.

5 Och Jacob förnam, att hans dotter Dina var skämd, och hans söner voro med boskapenom ute på markene: Och Jacob tigde till dess de kommo.

But when Jacob had heard this, his sons being absent, and employed in feeding the cattle, he held his peace till they came back.

6 Då gick Hemor Sichems fader ut till Jacob, till att tala med honom.

And when Hemor the father of Sichem was come out to speak to Jacob,

7 I det kommo Jacobs söner af markene; och då de det hörde, förtröt det männerna, och vordo ganska vrede, att han hade gjort en dårskap i Israel, och belägrat Jacobs dotter; ty det var icke rätt gjordt.

Behold his sons came from the field: and hearing what had passed, they were exceeding angry, because he had done a foul thing in Israel, and committed an unlawful act, in ravishing Jacob’s daughter,

8 Då talade Hemor med dem, och sade: Mins sons Sichems hjerta trängtar efter edra dotter; käre, gifver honom henne till hustru.

And Hemor spoke to them: The soul of my son Sichem has a longing for your daughter: give her him to wife:

9 Befrynder eder med oss; gifver oss edra döttrar, och tager I våra döttrar.

And let us contract marriages one with another: give us your daughters and take you our daughters,

10 Och bor när oss: Landet skall stå eder öppet; bygger och bruker, och bor derinne.

And dwell with us: the land is at your command, till, trade, and possess it.

11 Och Sichem sade till hennes fader och bröder: Låter mig finna nåd när eder, hvad I mig sägen, det vill jag gifva.

Sichem also said to her father and to her brethren: Let me find favour in your sight: and whatsoever you shall appoint I will give.

12 Begärer man troliga af mig morgongåfvor och skänker, jag vill gifva, som I begären; gifver mig allenast pigona till hustru.

Raise the dowry, and ask gifts, and I will gladly give what you shall demand: only give me this damsel to wife.

13 Då svarade Jacobs söner Sichem, och hans fader Hemor, och talade bedrägeliga, derföre, att deras syster Dina var skämd:

The sons of Jacob answered Sichem and his father deceitfully, being enraged at the deflowering of their sister:

14 Och sade till dem: Vi kunne det icke göra, att vi skole gifva våra syster enom oomskornom manne; ty det vore oss en skam.

We cannot do what you demand, nor give our sister to one that is uncircumcised, which with us is unlawful and abominable.

15 Dock likväl vilje vi vara eder till viljes, om I varden oss like, och allt mankön ibland eder varder omskoret.

But in this we may be allied with you, if you will be like us, and all the male sex among you be circumcised:

16 Då vilje vi gifva eder våra döttrar, och taga oss edra döttrar, och bo när eder, och vara ett folk.

Then will we mutually give and take your daughters, and ours: and we will dwell with you, and will be one people:

17 Men hvar I icke viljen lyda oss, och omskära eder, så vilje vi taga våra dotter, och fara vår väg.

But if you will not be circumcised, we will take our daughter and depart:

18 Det talet behagade Hemer och hans son väl.

Their offer pleased Hemor, and Sichem his son:

19 Och den unge mannen fördröjde intet att göra så; förty han hade lust till Jacobs dotter, och han var härlig hållen öfver alla i hans faders huse.

And the young man made no delay, but forthwith fulfilled what was required, for he loved the damsel exceedingly, and he was the greatest man in all his father’s house.

20 Så gingo Hemor och hans son Sichem i stadsporten, och talade med borgarena i stadenom, och sade:

And going into the gate of the city they spoke to the people:

21 Desse män äro fridsamme när oss, och vilja bygga och bo i landena. Så är nu landet vidt begripet; vi vilje taga oss deras döttrar, och gifva dem våra döttrar.

These men are peaceable and willing to dwell with us: let them trade in the land, and till it, which being large and wide wanteth men to till it: we shall take their daughters for wives, and we will give them ours.

22 Men då vilja de vara oss till viljes, så att de bo när oss, och varda ett folk med oss, om vi omskäre allt det som mankön är ibland oss, såsom de omskorne äro.

One thing there is for which so great a good is deferred: We must circumcise every male among us, following the manner of the nation.

23 Deras boskap och ägodelar, och allt det de hafva, blifver vårt, om vi eljest blifvom dem till viljes, så att de bo när oss.

And their substance, and cattle, and all that they possess, shall be ours: only in this let us condescend, and by dwelling together, we shall make one people.

24 Och de lydde Hemor och Sichem hans sone, alle de som genom hans stadsport ut och in gingo, och omskoro allt det som mankön var, det som i deras stad ut och in gick.

And they all agreed, and circumcised all the males.

25 Och på tredje dagenom, då det värkte dem, togo de två Jacobs söner, Simeon och Levi, Dinas bröder, hvardera sitt svärd, och gingo dristeliga in i staden, och slogo ihjäl allt det som var mankön.

And behold the third day, when the pain of the wound was greatest, two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, the brothers of Dina, taking their swords, entered boldly into the city, and slew all the men:

26 Och slogo också ihjäl Hemor och hans son Sichem med svärds ägg, och togo sina syster Dina utaf Sichems huse, och gingo sin väg.

And they killed also Hemor and Sichem, and took away their sister Dina, out of Sichem’s house.

27 Då kommo Jacobs söner öfver de slagna, och skinnade staden, derföre, att de skämt hade deras syster.

And when they were gone out, the other sons of Jacob came upon the slain; and plundered the city in revenge of the rape.

28 Och togo deras får, fä, åsnar, och hvad i stadenom och på markene var:

And they took their sheep and their herds and their asses, wasting all they had in their houses and in the fields.

29 Och alla deras håfvor; all barn och qvinnor togo de till fångar, och skinnade allt det i husen var.

And their children and wives they took captive,

30 Och Jacob sade till Simeon och Levi: I hafven åstadkommit, att jag blifver illa känder för alla dessa lands inbyggare, de Cananeer och Phereseer: Och jag är en ringa hop; när de nu församla sig öfver mig, så slå de mig ihjäl, så varder jag om intet gjord med mino huse.

And when they had boldly perpetrated these things, Jacob said to Simeon and Levi: You have troubled me, and made me hateful to the Chanaanites and Pherezites, the inhabitants of this land: we are few: they will gather themselves together and kill me; and both I, and my house, shall be destroyed.

31 Men de svarade: Skulle de då handla med våra syster, såsom med ene sköko?

They answered: Should they abuse our sister as a strumpet?
