1 Mosebok 19
1 Och de två Änglarne kommo om aftonen till Sodom; och Lot satt i Sodom i portenom. Och då han såg dem, stod han upp emot dem, och bugade sig med sitt ansigte neder på jordene.
The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening. Lot happened to be sitting at the entrance to Sodom, and when he saw them he stood up to meet them, and bowed low with his face to the ground.
2 Och sade: Si Herre, kommer uti edar tjenares hus, och blifver der öfver nattena; låter två edra fötter, och i morgon stån I bittida upp, och faren edar väg. De sade: Nej, men vi vilje blifva öfver nattena på gatone.
“Sirs, please come and stay with me for the night,” he said. “You can wash your feet and then be on your way early in the morning.” They replied, “No, it's fine. We'll spend the night here in the square.”
3 Då nödgade han dem fast, och de gingo in med honom, och de kommo uti hans hus: Och han gjorde dem en måltid, och bakade dem osyradt bröd, och de åto.
But Lot insisted, and they went with him to his house. He made them a meal and baked bread for them to eat.
4 Men förra än de lade sig, kommo de män af stadenom Sodom, och omhvärfde huset, unge och gamle, och allt folket tillhopa.
But they hadn't even gone to bed before the men of Sodom, young and old, from every part of town, came and surrounded the house.
5 Och kallade Lot ut, och sade till honom: Hvar äro männerne, som till dig ingångne äro i denna nattene? Låt dem gå här ut till oss, att vi måge känna dem.
They shouted out to Lot, “Where are the men who came to stay with you tonight? Bring them out here to us so we can have sex with them.”
6 Lot gick ut till dem för dörrene, och smällde dörrena igen efter sig.
Lot went out to talk to them in the doorway, closing the door behind him.
7 Och sade: Ack käre bröder, görer icke så illa.
“My friends, please don't do such an evil thing!
8 Si, jag hafver två döttrar, de hafva ännu ingen man känt, dem vill jag få ut till eder, och farer med dem som eder täckes; att I ju intet ondt gören dessa männerna; ty derföre äro de ingångne under mitt taks skugga.
Listen, I've got two virgin daughters. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do to them whatever you want, but please don't do anything to these men. It's my responsibility to look after them.”
9 Men de sade: Kom hit. Då sade de: Äst du icke allena en främling härinne, och vill nu regera? Nu väl, vi vilje göra dig mera ondt än dem. Och de trängde sig hårdeliga med våld in på mannen Lot, och de lupo till, och ville slå upp dörrena.
“Out of our way!” they shouted. “Who do you think you are, coming to live here and now trying to judge us? We'll do even worse things to you than we were going to do to these men!” They rushed forward at Lot and tried to break down the door.
10 Men männerne räckte handen ut, och togo Lot in till sig i huset, och smällde dörrena till.
But the men inside reached out and grabbed Lot, dragged him inside, and slammed the door shut.
11 Och männerna, som för dörrene voro af huset, slogo de med blindhet, både små och stora, så att de icke kunde finna dörrena.
Then they made all the men in the doorway, young and old, suddenly go blind so they couldn't find the door.
12 Och männerne sade till Lot: Hafver du ock härinne några mågar, eller söner, eller döttrar? Alla de, som dig tillhöra i stadenom, dem haf här utu detta rummet.
The two men asked Lot, “Is there anyone else here who's part of your family—sons-in-law, or sons or daughters, or anyone else in the town? If there are, make sure they leave,
13 Ty vi skole förgöra detta rummet, derföre, att deras rop är stort för Herranom, och Herren hafver utsändt oss till att förgöra dem.
because we are about to destroy this place. The complaints that have reached the Lord about its people have become so bad that he has sent us to destroy it.”
14 Då gick Lot ut, och talade med sina mågar, som skulle hafva hans döttrar, och sade: Görer redo, och går utu detta rum: förty Herren skall förgöra denna stad. Men dem syntes det vara gabberi.
Lot went immediately to speak to the men who were engaged to marry his daughters. “Get up quickly and leave,” he said, “because the Lord is about to destroy the town!” But they thought it was just a joke.
15 När nu morgonrodnen uppgick, skyndade Änglarne på Lot, att han skulle låta sig lida, och sade: Gör redo, tag dina hustru, och dina två döttrar, som du hafver, att du ock icke förgås uti denna stadsens missgerningom.
At dawn, the angels begged Lot to be quick, telling him, “Hurry up! Leave right now with your wife and your two daughters here, otherwise you'll be wiped out when the city is punished.”
16 Som han ännu fördröjde, togo männerne honom vid handena, och hans hustru, och hans två döttrar, efter Herren ville skona dem, och ledde honom ut, och läto honom ut för staden.
But Lot hesitated. The men grabbed his hand, and those of his wife and two daughters, and dragged them along, leaving them outside the town. The Lord was kind to them to do this.
17 Och som de hade haft honom ut, sade de: Förvara dina själ, och se icke tillbaka, och statt icke i alla denna ängd; men på berget undsätt dig, att du icke förgås.
As soon as they were outside, one of the men said, “Run for your lives! Don't look back, and don't stop anywhere in the valley! Run to the mountains otherwise you'll be destroyed!”
18 Då sade Lot till dem: Ack nej, min Herre.
“Please sir, not that!” Lot replied.
19 Si, efter din tjenare hafver funnit nåd för din ögon, så gör dock dina barmhertighet stora, som du på mig bevist hafver, att du skulle behålla mina själ vid lif: Jag kan icke förvara mig på bergena, mig måtte något ondt vederkomma, att jag blefve död.
“If you don't mind, since you have already been so kind to me by saving my life, don't make me run to the mountains—I just can't make it. The destruction will overtake me and I'll die!
20 Si, der är en stad icke långt hädan, der jag in fly må, och han är liten, der vill jag förvara mig; är han dock liten, att min själ må der blifva vid lif.
Look, there's a town nearby that's close enough to run to, and it's so small. Please let me run there—it's really very small. It would save my life.”
21 Då sade han till honom: Si, i desse stycke hafver jag ock sett till dig, att jag icke vill omstörta den staden, der du om talade.
“Fine—I'll do as you ask,” he replied. “I won't destroy this town you've mentioned.
22 Låt lida dig, och förvara dig der; ty jag kan intet göra, till dess du kommer der in. Deraf är den staden nämnd Zoar.
But hurry up and run there quickly, because I can't do anything until you get there.” (This is why the town was called Zoar.)
23 Och solen var uppgången på jordene, då Lot kom in uti Zoar.
The sun had already risen by the time Lot reached Zoar.
24 Då lät Herren regna svafvel och eld ifrå Herranom af himmelen, öfver Sodom och Gomorra.
Then the Lord rained down fire and burning sulfur from the sky on Sodom and Gomorrah.
25 Och omstörte de städer i alla den ängden, och alla de, som i städerna bodde, och allt det på landena växt var.
He completely destroyed the towns and all their inhabitants, the whole valley and everything growing there.
26 Och hans hustru såg tillbaka, och vardt en saltstod.
But Lot's wife, who was lagging behind, looked back, and she turned into a pillar of salt.
27 Men Abraham stod upp om morgonen bittida, på det rummet, der han förr hade ståndet för Herranom;
Abraham got up early the next morning and went back to where he had stood before the Lord.
28 Och såg ut emot Sodom och Gomorra, och allt landet i den ängden, och fick se, att der uppgick ett damb af landena, lika som en rök af en ugn.
He looked down at Sodom and Gomorrah and the whole valley floor, and saw the land burning, sending up smoke like from a furnace.
29 Ty då Gud omstörte de städer i den ängdene, tänkte han på Abraham, och frälste Lot utu de städer, som han omstörte, der Lot uti bodde.
When God destroyed the towns of the valley he didn't forget the promise he made Abraham, and he saved Lot from the destruction of the towns where Lot was living.
30 Och Lot for utu Zoar, och blef på bergena med båda sina döttrar; ty han fruktade att blifva i Zoar: Och låg uti ene bergskrefvo, han och båda hans döttrar.
Lot was afraid to stay in Zoar, so he left town and went to live in a cave in the mountains with his two daughters.
31 Då sade den äldsta till den yngsta: Vår fader är gammal, och ingen man är mer på jordene, som till oss ingå kan, efter alla verldenes sedvänjo.
Sometime later the older daughter said to the younger one, “Our father is growing old, and there's no men left to give us children like everyone does.
32 Kom, låt oss gifva vår fader dricka vin, och läggom oss när honom, att vi mågom behålla säd af vår fader.
Come on, let's get our father drunk with wine and sleep with him so we can keep his family line going.”
33 Och så gåfvo de deras fader dricka vin i den nattene. Och den äldsta gick in, och lade sig när sinom fader; och han vardt intet varse, när hon lade sig, ej heller när hon stod upp.
So they got their father drunk with wine that night. The older daughter went and slept with him, and he didn't notice when she lay down or when she got up.
34 Om morgonen sade den äldsta till den yngsta: Si, jag låg i går när min fader, låt oss ock i denna nattene gifva honom dricka vin, att du ock må gå in till honom, och lägga dig när honom, att vi behålle säd af vår fader.
The next day the older daughter said to the younger one, “Last night I slept with our father. Let's get him drunk with wine again tonight and you can go and sleep with him so we can keep his family line going.”
35 Och så gåfvo de desslikes i den nattene sin fader dricka vin: Och den yngsta gick ock in, och lade sig när honom; och han vardt det intet varse, när hon lade sig ned, ej heller när hon stod upp.
So once again that night they got their father drunk with wine and the younger daughter went and slept with him, and he didn't notice when she lay down or when she got up.
36 Och så vordo de båda Lots döttrar hafvande af sin fader.
This is how both Lot's daughters became pregnant by their father.
37 Och den äldsta födde en son, den hon kallade Moab; af honom kommo de Moabiter, allt intill denna dag.
The older daughter had a son, and she called him Moab. He is the ancestor of the Moabites of today.
38 Och den yngsta födde ock en son, och hon kallade hans namn Ammi barn; af honom kommo Ammons barn, allt intill denna dag.
The younger daughter had a son too, and she called him Ben-ammi. He is the ancestor of the Ammonites of today.
