Galaterbrevet 3

1 O, I oförståndige Galater, ho hafver kjust eder, att I icke skullen lyda sanningene? Hvilkom Jesus Christus för ögonen målad var, och nu ibland eder korsfäst är.

O foolish Galatians, who bewitched you? before whose eyes Jesus Christ was plainly set forth among you crucified.

2 Det vill jag allenast veta af eder: Hafven I undfått Andan genom lagsens gerningar, eller genom trones predikan?

This only I desire to learn from you: Was it from the works of the Law that ye received the Spirit, or by the preaching of faith?

3 Ären I så oförståndige? I hafven begynt i Andanom; viljen I nu lyktat i köttet?

Are ye so foolish? Having begun with the Spirit, do ye now end with the flesh?

4 Hafven I då så mycket lidit fåfängt? Om det eljest fåfängt är.

Have ye suffered so much in vain? if indeed it be really in vain.

5 Den som nu gifver eder Andan, och gör sådana krafter ibland eder, gör han det genom lagsens gerningar, eller genom trones predikan?

Doth he then who is supplying to you the Spirit, and working miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by the preaching of faith?

6 Såsom Abraham hafver trott Gudi, och det är räknadt honom till rättfärdighet;

Even as Abraham “believed God, and it was accounted to him as righteousness.”

7 Så veten I ju nu, att de som äro af trone, de äro Abrahams barn.

Know then that they who have faith, these are the sons of Abraham.

8 Men Skriften hafver sett framföre åt, att Gud gör Hedningarna rättfärdiga genom trona; derföre förkunnade hon Abrahe: I dig skola alle Hedningar välsignade varda.

Moreover the Scripture, foreseeing that God was to accept the gentiles as righteous by faith, proclaimed beforehand the glad tidings to Abraham, saying, “In thee shall all nations be blessed.”

9 Så varda nu de, som af trone äro, välsignade med den trogna Abraham.

So then they who have faith are blessed with believing Abraham.

10 Ty alle de som med lagsens gerningar umgå, de äro under förbannelse; ty det är skrifvet: Förbannad vare hvar och en, som icke blifver vid allt det som skrifvet är i lagboken, så att han det gör.

For as many as rely on the works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the Law, to do them.”

11 Men att ingen varder rättfärdig för Gudi genom lagen, är uppenbart; ty den rättfärdige skall lefva af ( sine ) tro.

But further, that through the observance of the Law no one is accepted as righteous with God is evident; for “the righteous shall live by faith.”

12 Men lagen är icke af trone; utan den menniska som så gör, hon lefver deraf.

And the Law hath nothing to do with faith; but [[its language is]], “He that hath done them shall live in them.”

13 Christus hafver förlossat oss ifrå lagsens förbannelse, då han vardt en förbannelse för oss; ty det är skrifvet: Förbannad är hvar och en, som hänger på träd;

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us; for it is written, “Cursed is every one that is hanged on a beam of wood,”—

14 På det Abrahams välsignelse komma skulle öfver Hedningarna i Christo Jesu, och vi så undfå måtte Andans löfte genom trona.

to the end that in Christ Jesus the blessing promised to Abraham might come to the gentiles, that we through faith might receive the Spirit which was promised.

15 Käre bröder, jag vill tala efter menniskosätt: Man föraktar ju icke ene menniskos testamente, då det gilladt är; man lägger icke heller något dertill.

Brethren, I speak according to what is practised among men; no one sets aside even a human covenant, or makes additions to it, after it has been ratified.

16 Nu är ju Abraham och hans säd löftet tillsagdt; han säger icke, uti säderna, såsom i mångom; utan, såsom uti enom, uti dine säd, som är Christus.

But the promises were made to Abraham and “to his offspring.” He doth not say, “and to offsprings,” as speaking of many, but, as speaking of one, “and to thy offspring,” which is Christ.

17 Men det säger jag: Det Testamentet, som tillförene af Gudi fast gjordt var på Christum, varder icke ogilladt, så att löftet skulle omintet varda med lagen, hvilken gifven var fyrahundrade och tretio år derefter.

And what I mean is this; that a covenant that was before ratified by God, the Law, which came four hundred and thirty years after, cannot annul, so as to make void the promise;

18 Ty om arfvet förtjentes genom lagen, så vorde det icke gifvet genom löftet; men Gud hafver det Abraham, genom löftet, fri skänkt.

for if the inheritance cometh from the Law, it ceaseth to be the consequence of the promise; but to Abraham God gave it by promise.

19 Hvad skall då lagen? Hon är kommen dertill för öfverträdelsernas skull, till dess säden skulle komma, hvilko löftet skedt var, och är skickad af Änglarna uti Medlarens hand.

To what end then was the Law? It was added because of transgressions, till the offspring should come to whom the promise belongeth, having been ordained through angels by the hand of a mediator.

20 Men Medlaren är icke ens Medlare; men Gud är en.

Now no mediator is a mediator of one; but God is one.

21 Är då lagen emot Guds löften? Bort det; men om en lag vore gifven, som kunde lefvande göra, så vore rättfärdigheten sannerliga af lagen;

Is then the Law against the promises of God? Far be it! For if a law had been given which was able to give life, righteousness would indeed have been by the Law;

22 Men Skriften hafver allt beslutit under synd, på det löftet skulle komma genom Jesu Christi tro, dem som tro.

but the Scripture shut up all under sin, that the blessing promised through faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

23 Men förr än tron kom, voro vi förvarade under lagen, och beslutne till den tro som uppenbaras skulle.

But before faith came, we were kept in ward under the Law, shut up unto the faith which was to be revealed.

24 Sa hafver nu lagen varit vår tuktomästare till Christum, på det vi skole varda rättfärdige af trone.

So then the Law hath been our schoolmaster, to lead us to Christ, that we might be accepted as righteous through faith;

25 Nu, sedan tron kommen är, äre vi icke länger under tuktomästaren;

but faith having come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

26 Ty I ären alle Guds barn, genom trona på Christum Jesum.

For ye are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus;

27 Ty I, så månge som döpte ären till Christum, hafven eder iklädt Christum.

for as many of you as were baptized into Christ, did put on Christ.

28 Här är icke Jude eller Grek; här är icke tjenare eller fri; här är icke man eller qvinna; alle ären I en i Christo Jesu.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is no male and female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus;

29 Ären I nu Christi, så ären I ju Abrahams säd, och arfvingar efter löftet.

and if ye belong to Christ, then are ye Abraham's offspring, heirs according to the promise.
