Mathayo 16
1 Mafarisayo na Masadukayo walimwendea Yesu, na kwa kumjaribu, wakamwomba afanye ishara itokayo mbinguni.
And the pharisees and sadducees came to Him, and captiously asked Him to shew them a sign from heaven.
2 Lakini Yesu akawajibu, “Wakati wa jioni ukifika ninyi husema: Hali ya hewa itakuwa nzuri kwa maana anga ni jekundu!
But He answered them, In the evening ye say, It will be fair weather, for the sky is red:
3 Na alfajiri mwasema: Leo hali ya hewa itakuwa ya dhoruba, maana anga ni jekundu na tena mawingu yametanda! Basi, ninyi mnajua sana kusoma majira kwa kuangalia anga, lakini kutambua dalili za nyakati hizi hamjui.
and in the morning, It will be foul weather to-day, for the sky is red and lowring. Ye hypocrites, can ye distinguish the appearance of the sky, and not discern the signs of these times?
4 Kizazi kiovu kisicho na uaminifu! Mnataka ishara, lakini hamtapewa ishara yoyote isipokuwa tu ile ya Yona.” Basi, akawaacha, akaenda zake.
This wicked and degenerate race demand a sign; but no sign shall be given them, except that of the prophet Jonah. And so He left them and went away.
5 Wanafunzi wake walipokwisha vukia upande wa pili wa ziwa, walijikuta wamesahau kuchukua mikate.
Now when his disciples departed to the other side, they forgot to take bread with them:
6 Yesu akawaambia, “Muwe macho na mjihadhari na chachu ya Mafarisayo na Masadukayo!”
and therefore when Jesus said to them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the pharisees and of the sadducees,
7 Lakini wao wakawa wanajadiliana: “Anasema hivyo kwa kuwa hatukuchukua mikate.”
they said one to another, It is because we have taken no bread.
8 Yesu alijua mawazo yao, akawaambia, “Enyi watu wenye imani haba! Mbona mnajadiliana juu ya kutokuwa na mikate?
And Jesus knowing their thoughts said to them, O ye of little faith, why do ye argue among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?
9 Je, hamjaelewa bado? Je, hamkumbuki nilipoimega ile mikate mitano kwa ajili ya wale watu elfu tano? Je, mlijaza vikapu vingapi vya makombo?
Do ye not yet understand, nor remember the five loaves divided among five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
10 Au, ile mikate saba waliyogawiwa wale watu elfu nne, je, mlikusanya vikapu vingapi vya mabaki?
nor the seven loaves among four thousand, and how many baskets-full ye took away?
11 Inawezekanaje hamwelewi ya kwamba sikuwa nikisema juu ya mikate? Jihadharini na chachu ya Mafarisayo na Masadukayo!”
How is it then that ye do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread, when I bid you to beware of the leaven of the pharisees and of the sadducees?
12 Hapo wanafunzi wakafahamu kwamba aliwaambia wajihadhari siyo na chachu ya mikate, bali na mafundisho ya Mafarisayo na Masadukayo.
Then they understood, that He did not bid them beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the pharisees and of the sadducees.
13 Yesu alipofika pande za Kaisarea Filipi, aliwauliza wanafunzi wake, “Watu wanasema Mwana wa Mtu kuwa ni nani?”
And when Jesus came into the parts of Cesarea Philippi, He asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I, the Son of man, am?
14 Wakamjibu, “Wengine wanasema kuwa ni Yohane mbatizaji, wengine Eliya, wengine Yeremia au mmojawapo wa manabii.”
And they answered, Some say thou art John the Baptist, others Elias, and others Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15 Yesu akawauliza, “Na ninyi je, mwasema mimi ni nani?”
But, saith He unto them, whom do ye say that I am?
16 Simoni Petro akajibu, “Wewe ndiwe Kristo, Mwana wa Mungu aliye hai.”
And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ the Son of the living God.
17 Yesu akasema, “Heri wewe Simoni mwana wa Yona, kwa maana si binadamu aliyekufunulia ukweli huu, ila Baba yangu aliye mbinguni.
And Jesus replied and said unto him, Blessed art thou Simon son of Jonas, for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in heaven.
18 Nami nakwambia: wewe ni Petro, na juu ya mwamba huu nitalijenga kanisa langu; wala kifo chenyewe hakitaweza kulishinda. (Hadēs g86)
And I also say unto thee, as thou art called Peter, so upon this rock, which thou hast confessed, will I build my church, and the gates of death shall not prevail against it. (Hadēs g86)
19 Nitakupa funguo za Ufalme wa mbinguni; kila utakachofunga duniani, kitafungwa pia mbinguni; kila utakachofungua duniani, kitafunguliwa pia mbinguni.”
And I will give thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
20 Kisha akawaonya wanafunzi wasimwambie mtu yeyote kwamba yeye ndiye Kristo.
Then charged He his disciples that they should tell no one that He was the Messiah.
21 Tangu wakati huo Yesu alianza kuwajulisha waziwazi wanafunzi wake: “Ni lazima mimi niende Yerusalemu, na huko nikapate mateso mengi yatakayosababishwa na wazee, makuhani wakuu na walimu wa Sheria. Nitauawa, na siku ya tatu nitafufuliwa.”
And from that time began Jesus to acquaint his disciples, that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, and chief priests, and scribes; and be put to death, and be raised again on the third day.
22 Hapo Petro akamchukua kando, akaanza kumkemea: “Isiwe hivyo Bwana! Jambo hili halitakupata!”
Then Peter took Him and began to expostulate with Him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: may this never be unto thee.
23 Lakini Yesu akageuka, akamwambia Petro, “Ondoka mbele yangu Shetani! Wewe ni kikwazo kwangu. Mawazo yako si ya mungu bali ni ya kibinadamu!”
But He turned and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan, thou art an offence to me; for thou regardest not the things of God, but those that be of men.
24 Kisha Yesu akawaambia wanafunzi wake, “Kama mtu yeyote anataka kuwa mfuasi wangu, ni lazima ajikane mwenyewe, auchukue msalaba wake, anifuate.
Then said Jesus to his disciples, If any one is willing to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me:
25 Maana, mtu anayetaka kuyaokoa maisha yake mwenyewe, atayapoteza;
for he that would save his life shall lose it; but he that would lose his life for my sake shall find it.
26 lakini mtu anayeyapoteza maisha yake kwa ajili yangu, atayapata. Je, mtu atafaidi nini akiupata utajiri wote wa ulimwengu na hali amepoteza maisha yake? Au, mtu atatoa kitu gani kiwe badala ya maisha yake?
For what is a man profited, if he gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give as a ransom for his soul?
27 Maana, Mwana wa Mtu atakuja katika utukufu wa Baba yake pamoja na malaika wake, na hapo ndipo atakapomlipa kila mtu kadiri ya matendo yake.
For the Son of man will come in the glory of his father, with his angels, and then he will recompense every one according to his practice.
28 Kweli nawaambieni, wako wengine papahapa ambao hawatakufa kabla ya kumwona Mwana wa Mtu akija katika Ufalme wake.”
And I tell you of a truth, there be some of those standing here, who shall not taste of death, till they have seen the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
