Wahebrania 2
1 Kwa sababu hiyo tunapaswa kuzingatia kwa makini zaidi yote tuliyosikia, ili tusije tukapotoshwa.
For this reason we must pay the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, for fear we should drift away.
2 Ujumbe ule waliopewa wazee wetu na malaika ulionyeshwa kuwa kweli, hata mtu yeyote ambaye hakuufuata au hakuutii aliadhibiwa kama alivyostahili.
For if the word uttered through angels stood firm, so that every transgression and act of disobedience met with its just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?
3 Basi, sisi tutaokokaje kama hatuujali wokovu mkuu kama huu? Kwanza Bwana mwenyewe aliutangaza wokovu huu, na wale waliomsikia walituthibitishia kwamba ni kweli.
Which having begun to be spoken by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him;
4 Mungu pia aliongeza hapo ushahidi wake kwa kufanya kila namna ya miujiza na maajabu, na kwa kuwagawia watu vipaji vya Roho Mtakatifu kadiri ya mapenzi yake.
God himself corroborating their testimony by signs and wonders and a variety of miraculous powers, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit imparted in accordance with his own will.
5 Mungu hakuwaweka malaika wautawale ulimwengu ujao, yaani ulimwengu ule tunaoongea habari zake.
It is not to angels that God subjected the age to be, of which we are speaking.
6 Tena yasemwa mahali fulani katika Maandiko: “Mtu ni nini ee Mungu, hata umfikirie; mwanaadamu ni nini hata umjali?
But some one, somewhere, testified, saying. What is Man, that thou art mindful of him? Or any man, that thou carest for him?
7 Ulimfanya kwa kitambo kidogo kuwa chini zaidi kuliko malaika; ukamvika taji ya utukufu na heshima,
Thou hast made him only a little lower that the angels; With glory and honor hast thou crowned him; And hast set him to govern the works of thy hands;
8 ukaweka kila kitu chini ya miguu yake, avitawale.” Yasemwa kwamba Mungu alimweka mtu kuwa mtawala wa vitu vyote yaani bila kuacha hata kimoja. Hata hivyo, hatuoni bado mtu akivitawala vitu vyote sasa.
Thou hast put all things under his feet. For this putting all things under man means leaving nothing not subject to him. But we do not yet see all things subject to him.
9 Lakini twamwona Yesu ambaye alifanywa kwa kitambo kidogo kuwa chini zaidi kuliko malaika, ili kwa neema ya Mungu afe kwa ajili ya watu wote. Sasa tunamwona ametawazwa kwa utukufu na heshima kwa sababu ya kifo alichoteseka.
What we do see is Jesus, who was made for a time a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor, because of the suffering of death, in order that through God’s grace he might taste death for every man.
10 Ilikuwa haki tupu kwamba Mungu, ambaye huumba na kutegemeza vitu vyote, alimfanya Yesu kuwa mkamilifu kabisa kwa njia ya mateso, ili awalete watoto wengi waushiriki utukufu wake. Maana Yesu ndiye anayewaongoza kwenye wokovu.
For it befitted him, for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the Pioneer of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
11 Yeye anawatakasa watu dhambi zao, naye pamoja na wale waliotakaswa, wote wanaye Baba mmoja. Ndiyo maana Yesu haoni aibu kuwaita hao ndugu zake;
For both he who sanctifies and those whom he is sanctifying are all from One; for which reason he is not ashamed to call them brothers, saying.
12 kama asemavyo: “Ee Mungu, nitawatangazia ndugu zangu matendo yako. Nitakusifu katika kusanyiko lao.”
I will proclaim thy name to my brothers; In the midst of the Church I will hymn thy praises.
13 Tena asema: “Nitamwekea Mungu tumaini langu.” Na tena: “Mimi niko hapa pamoja na watoto alionipa Mungu.”
And again, I myself will put my trust in God. And again, Lo, I and the children God has given me.
14 Basi, kwa vile watoto hao, kama awaitavyo, ni watu wenye mwili na damu, Yesu mwenyewe akawa kama wao na kushiriki ubinadamu wao. Alifanya hivyo ili kwa njia ya kifo chake amwangamize Ibilisi, ambaye ana mamlaka juu ya kifo,
Therefore, since the children are sharers in flesh and blood, he also similarly partook of the same, in order that through death he might render powerless him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
15 na hivyo awaokoe wale waliokuwa watumwa maisha yao yote kwa sababu ya hofu yao ya kifo.
And might deliver those who through fear of death had been subject to life-long bondage.
16 Maana ni wazi kwamba yeye hakuja kwa ajili ya kuwasaidia malaika, bali kama yasemavyo Maandiko; “Anawasaidia wazawa wa Abrahamu.”
For assuredly it is not angels, nay, it is the offspring of Abraham, whom he is ever taking by the hand.
17 Ndiyo maana ilimbidi awe kama ndugu zake kwa kila namna, ili awe Kuhani Mkuu wao aliye mwaminifu na mwenye huruma katika kumtumikia Mungu, ili dhambi za watu ziondolewe.
And so it was necessary that he should in all points be made like his brothers, so that he might become a compassionate and faithful high priest, in all that relates to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
18 Na, anaweza sasa kuwasaidia wale wanaojaribiwa na kuteswa.
For inasmuch as he himself has suffered, being tempted, he is also able instantly to succor those who are tempted, he is also able instantly to succor those who are tempted.
