1 Sheria ya Wayahudi si picha kamili ya mambo yale halisi: ni kivuli tu cha mema yanayokuja. Dhabihu zilezile hutolewa daima, mwaka baada ya mwaka. Sheria yawezaje, basi, kwa njia ya dhabihu hizo, kuwafanya wale wanaoabudu wawe wakamilifu?
For in the law there was a shadow of the good things to come; not the substance of the things themselves. Therefore, although the same sacrifices were every year offered, they could never perfect those who offered them.
2 Kama hao watu wanaomwabudu Mungu wangekuwa wametakaswa dhambi zao kweli, hawangejisikia tena kuwa na dhambi, na dhabihu hizo zote zingekoma.
For, if they had perfected them, they would long ago have desisted from their offerings; because their conscience could no more disquiet them, who were once purified, on account of their sins.
3 Lakini dhabihu hizo hufanyika kila mwaka kuwakumbusha watu dhambi zao.
But in those sacrifices, they every year recognized their sins.
4 Maana damu ya fahali na mbuzi haiwezi kamwe kuondoa dhambi.
For the blood of bulls and of goats cannot purge away sins.
5 Ndiyo maana Kristo alipokuwa anakuja ulimwenguni, alimwambia Mungu: “Hukutaka dhabihu wala sadaka, lakini umenitayarishia mwili.
Therefore, when entering the world, he said: In sacrifices and oblations, thou hast not had pleasure; but thou hast clothed me with a body.
6 Sadaka za kuteketezwa au za kuondoa dhambi hazikupendezi.
And holocausts on account of sins, thou hast not asked.
7 Hapo nikasema: Niko hapa ee Mungu, tayari kufanya mapenzi yako kama ilivyoandikwa juu yangu katika kitabu cha Sheria.”
Then I said: Behold I come, as it is written of me in the beginning of the books, to do thy pleasure, O God.
8 Kwanza alisema: “Hutaki, wala hupendezwi na dhabihu na sadaka, sadaka za kuteketezwa na za kuondoa dhambi.” Alisema hivyo ingawa sadaka hizi zote hutolewa kufuatana na Sheria.
He first said: Sacrifices and oblations and holocausts for sins, which were offered according to the law, thou desiredst not;
9 Kisha akasema: “Niko hapa, ee Mungu, tayari kufanya mapenzi yako.” Hivyo Mungu alibatilisha dhabihu za zamani na mahali pake akaweka dhabihu nyingine moja.
and afterwards he said: Behold I come to do thy pleasure, O God: hereby, he abolished the former, that he might establish the latter.
10 Kwa kuwa Yesu Kristo alitimiza mapenzi ya Mungu, sisi tunatakaswa dhambi zetu kwa ile dhabihu ya mwili wake aliyotoa mara moja tu, ikatosha.
For by this his pleasure, we are sanctified; through the offering of the body of Jesus the Messiah a single time.
11 Kila kuhani Myahudi humhudumia Mungu kila siku, akitoa dhabibu zilezile mara nyingi, dhabibu ambazo haziwezi kuondoa dhambi.
For every high priest who stood and ministered daily, offered again and again the same sacrifices, which never were sufficient to purge away sins.
12 Lakini Kristo alitoa dhabihu moja tu kwa ajili ya dhambi, dhabihu ifaayo milele, kisha akaketi upande wa kulia wa Mungu.
But this Priest offered one sacrifice for sins, and for ever sat down at the right hand of God;
13 Huko anangoja mpaka adui zake watakapowekwa kama kibao chini ya miguu yake.
and thenceforth waited, until his foes should be placed as a footstool under his feet.
14 Basi, kwa dhabihu yake moja tu, amewafanya kuwa wakamilifu milele wale wanaotakaswa dhambi zao.
For by one offering, he hath perfected for ever, them who are sanctified by him.
15 Naye Roho Mtakatifu anatupa ushahidi wake. Kwanza anasema:
And the Holy Spirit also testifieth to us, by saying:
16 “Hili ndilo agano nitakalofanya nao, katika siku zijazo, asema Bwana: Nitaweka sheria zangu mioyoni mwao, na kuziandika akilini mwao.”
This is the covenant which I will give them after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my law into their minds, and inscribe it on their hearts;
17 Kisha akaongeza kusema: “Sitakumbuka tena dhambi zao, wala vitendo vyao vya uhalifu.”
and their iniquity and their sins, I will not remember against them.
18 Basi, dhambi zikisha ondolewa, hakutakuwa na haja tena ya kutoa dhabihu za kuondoa dhambi.
Now, where there is a remission of sins, there is no offering for sin demanded.
19 Basi, ndugu, kwa damu ya Yesu tunapewa moyo thabiti wa kuingia Mahali Patakatifu.
We have therefore, my brethren, assurance in entering into the sanctuary, by the blood of Jesus, and by a way of life,
20 Yeye ametufungulia njia mpya na yenye uzima kupitia lile pazia, yaani kwa njia ya mwili wake mwenyewe.
which he hath now consecrated for us, through the veil, that is his flesh.
21 Basi, tunaye kuhani maarufu aliye na mamlaka juu ya nyumba ya Mungu.
And we have a high priest over the house of God.
22 Kwa hiyo tumkaribie Mungu kwa moyo mnyofu na imani timilifu, kwa mioyo iliyotakaswa dhamiri mbaya, na kwa miili iliyosafishwa kwa maji safi.
Let us, therefore draw near, with a true heart, and with the confidence of faith, being sprinkled as to our hearts, and pure from an evil conscience, and our body being washed with pure water.
23 Tushikilie imara tumaini lile tunalokiri, maana Mungu aliyefanya ahadi zake ni mwaminifu.
And let us persevere in the profession of our hope, and not waver; for he is faithful who hath made the promise to us.
24 Tujitahidi kushughulikiana kwa ajili ya kuongezeana bidii ya kupendana na kutenda mema.
And let us look on each other, for the excitement of love and good works.
25 Tusiache ile desturi ya kukutana pamoja, kama vile wengine wanavyofanya. Bali tunapaswa kusaidiana kwani, kama mwonavyo, Siku ile ya Bwana inakaribia.
And let us not forsake our meetings, as is the custom of some; but entreat ye one another; and the more, as ye see that day draw near.
26 Maana, tukiendelea kutenda dhambi makusudi baada ya kufahamu ukweli, hakuna dhabihu iwezayo kutolewa tena kwa ajili ya kuondoa dhambi.
For if a man sin, voluntarily, after he hath received a knowledge of the truth, there is no longer a sacrifice which may be offered for sins:
27 Linalobaki ni kungojea tu kwa hofu hukumu ya Mungu na moto mkali utakaowaangamiza wote wanaompinga.
but the fearful judgment impendeth, and the zeal of fire that consumeth the adversaries.
28 Mtu yeyote asiyeitii Sheria ya Mose, huuawa bila ya huruma kukiwa na ushahidi wa watu wawili au watatu.
For if he, who transgressed the law of Moses, died without mercies, at the mouth of two or three witnesses;
29 Je, mtu yule anayempuuza Mwana wa Mungu na kuidharau damu ya agano la Mungu iliyomtakasa, mtu anayemtukana Roho wa Mungu, anastahili kupata adhabu kali ya namna gani?
how much more, think ye, will he receive capital punishment, who hath trodden upon the Son of God, and hath accounted the blood of his covenant, by which he is sanctified, as the blood of all men, and hath treated the Spirit of grace with contumely?
30 Maana tunamfahamu yule aliyesema, “Mimi nitalipiza kisasi, mimi nitalipiza,” na ambaye alisema pia, “Bwana atawahukumu watu wake.”
For we know him who hath said, Retribution is mine; and I will repay: and again, The Lord will judge his people.
31 Kuanguka mikononi mwa Mungu aliye hai ni jambo la kutisha mno!
It is very terrible, to fall into the hands of the living God.
32 Kumbukeni yaliyotokea siku zile za kwanza mlipoangaziwa mwanga wa Mungu. Ingawa siku zile mlipatwa na mateso mengi, ninyi mlistahimili.
Therefore, recollect ye the former days, those in which ye received baptism, and endured a great conflict of sufferings, with reproach and affliction;
33 Mara nyingine mlitukanwa na kufedheheshwa hadharani; mara nyingine mlikuwa radhi kuungana na wale walioteswa namna hiyohiyo.
and ye were a gazing stock, and also were the associates of persons who endured these things:
34 Mlishiriki mateso ya wafungwa, na mliponyang'anywa mali yenu mlistahimili kwa furaha, maana mlijua kwamba mnayo mali bora zaidi na ya kudumu milele.
and ye were grieved for those who were imprisoned; and ye cheerfully endured the plundering of your goods, because ye knew that ye had a possession in heaven, superior and not transitory.
35 Basi, msipoteze uhodari wenu, maana utawapatieni tuzo kubwa.
Therefore cast not away your assurance which is to have a great reward.
36 Mnahitaji kuwa na uvumilivu, ili mweze kufanya anayotaka Mungu na kupokea kile alichoahidi.
For ye have need of patience; that ye may do the pleasure of God, and may receive the promise.
37 Maana kama yasemavyo Maandiko: “Bado kidogo tu, na yule anayekuja, atakuja, wala hatakawia.
Because, yet a little, and it is a very little time, when he that cometh, will come, and will not delay.
38 Lakini mtu wangu aliye mwadilifu ataamini na kuishi; walakini akirudi nyuma, mimi sitapendezwa naye.”
Now the just by my faith, will live: but if he draw back, my soul will not have pleasure in him.
39 Basi, sisi hatumo miongoni mwa wale wanaorudi nyuma na kupotea, ila sisi tunaamini na tunaokolewa.
But we are not of that drawing-back, which leadeth to perdition; but of that faith, which maketh us possess our soul.
