Matendo 14
1 Kule Ikonio, mambo yalikuwa kama yalivyokuwa kule Antiokia; Paulo na Barnaba walikwenda katika sunagogi la Wayahudi wakaongea kwa uhodari hata Wayahudi wengi na Wagiriki wakawa waumini.
And they came and entered into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spoke with them, that many of the Jews and of the Greeks believed.
2 Lakini Wayahudi wengine waliokataa kuwa waumini walichochea na kutia chuki katika mioyo ya watu wa mataifa mengine ili wawapinge hao ndugu.
But Jews of the class of unbelievers, excited the Gentiles, to maltreat the brethren.
3 Paulo na Barnaba waliendelea kukaa huko kwa muda mrefu. Waliongea kwa uhodari juu ya Bwana, naye Bwana akathibitisha ukweli wa ujumbe walioutoa juu ya neema yake, kwa kuwawezesha kutenda miujiza na maajabu.
And they continued there a long time, and spoke openly concerning the Lord; and he gave testimony to the word of his grace, by the signs and prodigies which he wrought by their hands.
4 Watu wa mji huo waligawanyika: wengine waliwaunga mkono Wayahudi, na wengine walikuwa upande wa mitume.
And the whole multitude of the city was divided; and a part were with the Jews, and a part adhered to the legates.
5 Mwishowe, baadhi ya watu wa mataifa mengine na Wayahudi, wakishirikiana na wakuu wao, waliazimu kuwatendea vibaya hao mitume na kuwapiga mawe.
And an assault was made on them, by the Gentiles, and by the Jews and their chiefs, to insult them, and to stone them with stones.
6 Mitume walipogundua jambo hilo, walikimbilia Lustra na Derbe, miji ya Lukaonia, na katika sehemu za jirani,
And when they knew it, they departed and fled to the cities of Lycaonia and Lystra and Derbe, and to the villages around them;
7 wakawa wanahubiri Habari Njema huko.
and there they preached.
8 Kulikuwa na mtu mmoja huko Lustra ambaye alikuwa amelemaa miguu tangu kuzaliwa, na alikuwa hajapata kutembea kamwe.
And a certain man dwelt in the city Lystra, who was afflicted in his feet, a cripple from his mother's womb, who had never walked.
9 Mtu huyo alikuwa anamsikiliza Paulo alipokuwa anahubiri. Paulo alimtazama kwa makini, na alipoona kuwa alikuwa na imani ya kuweza kuponywa,
He heard Paul speak: and when Paul saw him, and knew that he had faith to live;
10 akasema kwa sauti kubwa, “Simama wima kwa miguu yako!” Huyo mtu aliyelemaa akainuka ghafla, akaanza kutembea.
he said to him, with a loud voice: In the name of our Lord Jesus Messiah, I say to thee, Rise upon thy feet. And he sprang up, stood, and walked.
11 Umati wa watu walipoona alichofanya Paulo, ulianza kupiga kelele kwa lugha ya Kilukaonia: “Miungu imetujia katika sura za binadamu!”
And the assembly of people, when they saw what Paul had done, raised their voice, and said, in the language of the country: The gods have assumed the likeness of men, and have come down to us.
12 Barnaba akaitwa Zeu, na Paulo, kwa vile yeye ndiye aliyekuwa anaongea, akaitwa Herme.
And they named Barnabas the Lord of the Gods; and Paul Hermes, because he commenced the speaking.
13 Naye kuhani wa hekalu la Zeu lililokuwa nje ya mji akaleta fahali na shada za maua mbele ya mlango mkuu wa mji, na pamoja na ule umati wa watu akataka kuwatambikia mitume.
And the priest of the Lord of the Gods, who was without the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gate of the court where they lodged, and was disposed to offer sacrifices to them.
14 Barnaba na Paulo walipopata habari hiyo waliyararua mavazi yao na kukimbilia katika lile kundi la watu wakisema kwa sauti kubwa:
But Barnabas and Paul, when they heard it, rent their garments, and sprang and went among the throng,
15 “Ndugu, kwa nini mnafanya mambo hayo? Sisi pia ni binadamu kama ninyi. Na, tuko hapa kuwahubirieni Habari Njema, mpate kuziacha hizi sanamu tupu, mkamgeukie Mungu aliye hai, Mungu aliyeumba mbingu na nchi, bahari na vyote vilivyomo.
and called out, and said: Men, what do ye? We also are frail mortals like yourselves, who preach to you, that ye should turn from these useless things, unto the living God, who made heaven and earth and seas, and whatever is in them.
16 Zamani Mungu aliruhusu kila taifa lifanye lilivyopenda.
He, in former ages, left all the nations to go in their own ways:
17 Hata hivyo, Mungu hakuacha kujidhihirisha kwa mambo mema anayowatendea: huwanyeshea mvua toka angani, huwapa mavuno kwa wakati wake, huwapa chakula na kuijaza mioyo yenu furaha.”
although he did not leave himself without testimony, while he did them good from heaven, and sent down the rain, and made the fruits to grow in their seasons, and filled their hearts with food and pleasure.
18 Ingawa walisema hivyo haikuwa rahisi kuwazuia wale watu wasiwatambikie.
And, by saying these things, they with difficulty prevented the people from offering sacrifice to them.
19 Lakini Wayahudi kadhaa walikuja kutoka Antiokia na Ikonio, wakawafanya watu wajiunge nao, wakampiga mawe Paulo na kumburuta hadi nje ya mji wakidhani amekwisha kufa.
But Jews came hither from Iconium and Antioch, and excited the people against them. And they stoned Paul, and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead.
20 Lakini waumini walipokusanyika na kumzunguka, aliamka akarudi mjini. Kesho yake, yeye pamoja na Barnaba walikwenda Derbe.
And the disciples assembled around him; and he arose, and went into the city. And the next day, he departed from there, with Barnabas; and they came to the city of Derbe.
21 Baada ya Paulo na Barnabas kuhubiri Habari Njema huko Derbe na kupata wafuasi wengi, walifunga safari kwenda Antiokia kwa kupitia Lustra na Ikonio.
And while they were preaching to the inhabitants of that city, they made many disciples. And turning back, they came to the city Lystra, and to Iconium, and to Antioch,
22 Waliwaimarisha waumini wa miji hiyo na kuwatia moyo wabaki imara katika imani. Wakawaambia, “Ni lazima sisi sote tupitie katika taabu nyingi ili tuingie katika ufalme wa Mungu.”
confirming the souls of the disciples, and entreating them to persevere in the faith; and they told them, that it was necessary, through much affliction, to enter into the kingdom of God.
23 Waliteua wazee katika kila kanisa kwa ajili ya waumini, na baada ya kusali na kufunga, wakawaweka chini ya ulinzi wa Bwana ambaye walikuwa wanamwamini.
And they established for them Elders in each church, while they fasted with them, and prayed, and commended them to our Lord in whom they believed.
24 Baada ya kupitia katika nchi ya Pisidia, walifika Pamfulia.
And when they had travelled over the region of Pisidia they came to Pamphylia.
25 Baada ya kuhubiri ule ujumbe huko Perga, walikwenda Atalia.
And when they had spoken the word of the Lord in the city of Perga, they went down to Attalia.
26 Kutoka huko walisafiri kwa meli wakarudi Antiokia ambako hapo awali walikuwa wamewekwa chini ya ulinzi wa neema ya Mungu kwa ajili ya kazi ambayo sasa walikuwa wameitimiza.
And thence they proceeded by sea, and came to Antioch; because from there they had been commended to the grace of the Lord, for that work which they had accomplished.
27 Walipofika huko Antiokia walifanya mkutano wa kanisa la mahali hapo, wakawapa taarifa juu ya mambo Mungu aliyofanya pamoja nao, na jinsi alivyowafungulia mlango watu wa mataifa mengine mlango wa kuingia katika imani.
And when they had collected together the whole church, they narrated all that God had wrought with them, and that he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles.
28 Wakakaa pamoja na wale waumini kwa muda mrefu.
And they remained there a long time with the disciples.
