Matendo 10
1 Kulikuwa na mtu mmoja huko Kaisarea aitwaye Kornelio, Jemadari wa kikosi kimoja kiitwacho “Kikosi cha Italia.”
Now there was a certain man at Cesarea named Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band: a pious man,
2 Alikuwa mtu mwema; naye pamoja na jamaa yake yote walimcha Mungu; alikuwa anafanya mengi kusaidia maskini wa Kiyahudi na alikuwa anasali daima.
and one that feared God, with all his house; giving also much alms to the people, and praying to God continually.
3 Yapata saa tisa mchana, aliona dhahiri katika maono malaika wa Mungu akiingia ndani na kumwambia, “Kornelio!”
He evidently saw in a vision, about the ninth hour of the day, an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius!
4 Kornelio alimkodolea macho huyo malaika kwa hofu, akamwambia, “Kuna nini Mheshimiwa?” Huyo malaika akamwambia, “Mungu amezipokea sala na sadaka zako kwa maskini.
and he looking earnestly at him, and being afraid, said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up as a memorial before God.
5 Sasa, watume watu Yopa wakamwite mtu mmoja aitwaye Simoni, kwa jina lingine Petro.
And now send men to Joppa, and fetch hither one Simon, whose sirname is Peter.
6 Yeye yumo nyumbani kwa Simoni mtengenezaji wa ngozi ambaye nyumba yake iko karibu na bahari.”
He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea-side: he shall tell thee what thou must do.
7 Huyo malaika aliyesema hayo alipokwisha kwenda zake, Kornelio aliwaita watumishi wawili wa nyumbani na mmoja wa askari zake ambaye alikuwa mcha Mungu,
As soon as the angel, that spake to Cornelius, was departed, he called two of his domestic servants, and a devout soldier, that constantly attended him.
8 akawaeleza yote yaliyotukia, akawatuma Yopa.
And when he had related all to them, he sent them to Joppa.
9 Kesho yake, hao watu watatu wakiwa bado safarini, lakini karibu kufika Yopa, Petro alipanda juu ya paa la nyumba yapata saa sita mchana ili kusali.
On the morrow, while they were on their journey, and drawing near to the city, Peter went up on the top of the house to pray, about the sixth hour.
10 Aliona njaa, akatamani kupata chakula. Chakula kilipokuwa kinatayarishwa, alipatwa na usingizi mzito akaona maono.
And he was very hungry, and desired something to eat: but while they were getting it ready, he fell into a trance; and saw heaven opened,
11 Aliona mbingu zimefunguliwa na kitu kama shuka kubwa inateremshwa chini ikiwa imeshikwa pembe zake nne.
and some thing descending to him, like a great sheet tied at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12 Ndani ya shuka hiyo kulikuwa na kila aina ya wanyama: wanyama wenye miguu minne, wanyama watambaao na ndege wa angani.
in which were all kinds of four-footed creatures, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13 Akasikia sauti ikimwambia: “Petro, amka uchinje, ule!”
And there was a voice which said to him, Rise, Peter, kill and eat.
14 Petro akajibu, “La, Bwana; mimi sijaonja kamwe chochote ambacho ni najisi au kichafu.”
But Peter said, By no means, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing polluted or unclean.
15 Ile sauti ikasikika tena ikimwambia: “Usiviite najisi vitu ambavyo Mungu amevitakasa!”
And the voice said to him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, do not thou account polluted.
16 Jambo hili lilifanyika mara tatu, kisha ile shuka ikarudishwa juu mbinguni.
This was done thrice, and the vessel was taken up again into heaven.
17 Petro alipokuwa bado anashangaa juu ya maana ya hilo maono alilokuwa ameliona, wale watu waliotumwa na Kornelio, baada ya kuigundua nyumba ya Simoni, walifika mlangoni,
Now while Peter was doubting in himself what might be the meaning of the vision which he had seen, behold the men that were sent from Cornelius, having enquired for Simon's house, stood at the door;
18 Wakaita kwa sauti: “Je, kuna mgeni humu aitwaye Simoni Petro?”
and called, and asked, if Simon sirnamed Peter lodged there.
19 Petro alikuwa bado anajaribu kuelewa lile maono, na hapo Roho akamwambia, “Sikiliza! kuna watu watatu hapa, wanakutafuta.
And as Peter was pondering upon the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold there are three men enquiring for thee:
20 Shuka upesi na wala usisite kwenda pamoja nao kwa maana ni mimi niliyewatuma.”
arise therefore and go down, and go along with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.
21 Basi, Petro akateremka chini, akawaambia hao watu, “Mimi ndiye mnayemtafuta. Kwa nini mmekuja?”
Then Peter went down to the men that were sent to him from Cornelius, and said, Behold I am the person whom ye seek: what is the cause for which ye are come?
22 Wao wakamjibu, “Jemadari Kornelio ambaye ni mtu mwema, mcha Mungu na mwenye kuheshimika mbele ya Wayahudi wote ametutuma. Aliambiwa na malaika mtakatifu akualike nyumbani kwake ili asikilize chochote ulicho nacho cha kusema.”
And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a righteous man, and one that feareth God, and of a good character among all the nation of the Jews, hath been warned from God by an holy angel, to send for thee to his house, and to hear what thou shalt say.
23 Petro akawaalika ndani, akawapa mahali pa kulala usiku ule. Kesho yake, Petro alianza safari pamoja nao, na baadhi ya ndugu wa huko Yopa walifuatana naye.
Then he invited them in, and entertained them that night. And on the morrow Peter set out with them; and some of the brethren from Joppa went with him.
24 Siku ya pili yake, walifika Kaisarea na huko Kornelio alikuwa anawangojea pamoja na jamaa na marafiki aliokuwa amewaalika.
And the next day they came into Cesarea; and Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his relations and intimate friends.
25 Petro alipokuwa anaingia, Kornelio alitoka nje kumlaki, akapiga magoti mbele yake na kuinama chini kabisa.
And as Peter came in, Cornelius met him, and falling down at his feet did him reverence.
26 Lakini Petro alimwinua, akamwambia, “Simama, kwa maana mimi ni binadamu tu.”
But Peter raised him up, saying, I myself also am a man.
27 Petro aliendelea kuongea na Kornelio wakiwa wanaingia nyumbani ambamo aliwakuta watu wengi wamekusanyika.
And as he was conversing with him, he went in, and found many assembled together.
28 Petro akawaambia, “Ninyi wenyewe mnajua kwamba Myahudi yeyote amekatazwa na Sheria yake ya dini kushirikiana na watu wa mataifa mengine. Lakini Mungu amenijulisha nisimfikirie mtu yeyote kuwa najisi au mchafu.
And he said unto them, Ye know how unlawful it is for a man that is a Jew, to associate with or go to the house of one of another nation: but God hath shewn me, that I should not call any man polluted or unclean.
29 Kwa sababu hiyo, mliponiita nimekuja bila kusita. Basi, nawaulizeni: kwa nini mmeniita?”
And therefore I came to you, when I was sent for, without demur. I ask therefore on what account ye sent for me.
30 Kornelio akasema, “Siku tatu zilizopita saa kama hii, saa tisa alasiri, nilikuwa nikisali chumbani mwangu. Ghafla, mtu aliyekuwa amevaa mavazi yenye kun'gaa alisimama mbele yangu,
And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting till this hour, and at the ninth hour I was praying in my house, when behold a man stood before me in bright raiment,
31 akasema: Kornelio! Sala yako na sadaka zako kwa maskini vimekubaliwa na Mungu.
and said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are remembered before God.
32 Mtume mtu Yopa akamwite mtu mmoja aitwaye Simoni, kwa jina lingine Petroi; yuko nyumbani kwa Simoni mtengenezaji wa ngozi karibu na bahari.
Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, who is sirnamed Peter, (he lodgeth in the house of one Simon a tanner, by the sea-side, ) who when he cometh, will talk with thee.
33 Kwa hiyo nilikutumia ujumbe bila kuchelewa, nawe umefanya vyema kuja. Sasa, sisi tuko mbele ya Mungu, kusikiliza chochote ambacho bwana amekuamuru kusema.”
Immediately therefore I sent to thee, and thou hast done well that thou art come. And now we are all here present before God, to hear all the things which God hath charged thee with to us.
34 Hapo Petro akaanza kusema: “Sasa nimetambua kwamba hakika Mungu hana ubaguzi.
Then Peter opened his mouth and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
35 Mtu wa taifa lolote anayemcha Mungu na kutenda haki anapokelewa naye.
but in every nation he that feareth Him, and worketh righteousness, is acceptable to Him.
36 Huu ndio ule ujumbe Mungu alioupeleka kwa watu wa Israeli, akitangaza Habari Njema iletayo amani kwa njia ya Yesu Kristo ambaye ni Bwana wa wote.
According to the declaration which He made to the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.
37 Ninyi mnajua jambo lililotukia katika nchi yote ya Wayahudi kuanzia Galilaya baada ya ule ubatizo aliohubiri Yohane.
Ye know the report that was spread through all Judea, having begun from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached: concerning Jesus of Nazareth,
38 Mnajua Yesu wa Nazareti na jinsi Mungu alivyomteua kwa kummiminia Roho Mtakatifu na nguvu. Mungu alikuwa pamoja naye; yeye alikwenda huko na huko akitenda mema na kuwaponya wote waliokuwa wamevamiwa na Ibilisi.
how God anointed Him with the holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed by the devil: for God was with Him.
39 Sisi ni mashahidi wa mambo yote aliyotenda katika nchi ya Wayahudi na katika Yerusalemu. Walimuua kwa kumtundika msalabani;
And we are witnesses of all things that He did, both in the country of Judea, and in the city of Jerusalem: whom notwithstanding they put to death, hanging Him on a tree.
40 lakini Mungu alimfufua siku ya tatu, akamfanya aonekane
Him God raised up the third day, and gave Him to be seen openly; not to all the people,
41 si kwa watu wote ila kwa wale Mungu aliokwisha wachagua wawe mashahidi wake, yaani sisi tuliokula na kunywa pamoja naye baada ya kufufuka kwake kutoka wafu.
but to witnesses before appointed by God, even to us, who did eat and drink with Him, after He rose from the dead.
42 Alituamuru kuihubiri Habari Njema kwa watu wote na kushuhudia kwamba yeye ndiye aliyeteuliwa na Mungu awe Mwamuzi wa wazima na wafu.
And He commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is He who is appointed by God to be judge of the living and of the dead.
43 Manabii wote waliongea juu yake kwamba kila mtu atakayemwamini atasamehewa dhambi zake zote kwa jina lake.”
To Him do all the prophets bear witness, that whosoever believeth on Him shall receive the forgiveness of their sins through his name.
44 Wakati Petro alipokuwa bado anasema maneno hayo, Roho Mtakatifu aliwashukia wote waliokuwa wanasikiliza ujumbe huo.
While Peter was yet speaking these words, the holy Spirit fell upon all them that heard the word.
45 Wale Wayahudi waumini waliokuja pamoja na Petro kutoka Yopa walishangaa kuona kuwa Mungu aliwamiminia zawadi ya Roho Mtakatifu watu wa mataifa mengine pia;
And those of the circumcision that were believers, who came with Peter, were astonished, that the gift of the holy Spirit was conferred upon the Gentiles also:
46 maana waliwasikia wakiongea kwa lugha mbalimbali wakimtukuza Mungu. Hapo Petro akasema,
for they heard them speaking in divers languages, and glorifying God.
47 “Watu hawa wamempokea Roho Mtakatifu kama sisi wenyewe tulivyompokea. Je, kuna yeyote atakayeweza kuwazuia wasibatizwe kwa maji?”
Then said Peter, Can any one forbid water, that these persons should not be baptized, who have received the holy Spirit, as well as we?
48 Basi, akaamuru wabatizwe kwa jina la Yesu Kristo. Kisha wakamwomba akae nao kwa siku chache.
And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. And they desired him to stay there some days.
