Matendo 1
1 Ndugu Theofilo, Katika kitabu cha kwanza niliandika juu ya mambo yote Yesu aliyotenda na kufundisha tangu mwanzo wa kazi yake
The former narrative I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus both did and taught from the beginning
2 mpaka siku ile alipochukuliwa mbinguni. Kabla ya kuchukuliwa mbinguni aliwapa maagizo kwa njia ya Roho Mtakatifu wale mitume aliowachagua.
until the day in which, after he had through the Holy Spirit given commandments to the apostles whom he had chosen, he was taken up;
3 Kwa muda wa siku arobaini baada ya kifo chake aliwatokea mara nyingi kwa namna ambazo zilithibitisha kabisa kwamba alikuwa hai. Walimwona, naye aliongea nao juu ya ufalme wa Mungu.
to whom also he showed himself living, after he had suffered, by many sure proofs, appearing to them during forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.
4 Wakati walipokutana pamoja aliwaamuru hivi: “Msiondoke Yerusalemu, bali ngojeeni ile zawadi aliyoahidi Baba, zawadi ambayo mlikwisha nisikia nikiongea juu yake.
And while in assembly with them, he commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for what had been promised by the Father, which [[said he]] ye heard from me;
5 Kwani Yohane alibatiza kwa maji, lakini baada ya siku chache, ninyi mtabatizwa kwa Roho Mtakatifu.”
for John indeed baptized with water, but ye will be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hence.
6 Basi, mitume walipokutana pamoja na Yesu, walimwuliza, “Je Bwana, wakati huu ndipo utakaporudisha ule ufalme kwa Israeli?”
They therefore, having come together, asked him, saying, Lord, art thou at this time about to restore the kingdom to Israel?
7 Lakini Yesu akawaambia, “Nyakati na majira ya mambo hayo viko chini ya mamlaka ya Baba yangu, wala si shauri lenu kujua yatakuwa lini.
But he said to them, It belongeth not to you to know times or seasons, which the Father appointed by his own authority.
8 Lakini wakati Roho Mtakatifu atakapowashukieni ninyi, mtajazwa nguvu na mtakuwa mashahidi wangu katika Yerusalemu, katika nchi yote ya Yudea na Samaria, na hata miisho ya dunia.”
But ye will receive power when the Holy Spirit hath come upon you; and ye will be my witnesses, both in Jerusalem and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
9 Baada ya kusema hayo, wote wakiwa wanamtazama, alichukuliwa mbinguni; wingu likamficha wasimwone tena.
And having thus spoken, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 Walipokuwa bado wanatazama juu angani, akiwa anakwenda zake, mara watu wawili waliokuwa wamevaa nguo nyeupe walisimama karibu nao,
And while they were looking earnestly into heaven as he went up, lo! two men stood by them in white apparel,
11 wakasema, “Enyi wananchi wa Galilaya! Mbona mnasimama mkitazama angani? Yesu huyu ambaye amechukuliwa kutoka kwenu kwenda mbinguni atakuja tena namna hiyohiyo mliivyomwona akienda mbinguni.”
who said, Men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This Jesus, who hath been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same manner in which ye beheld him going into heaven.
12 Kisha mitume wakarudi Yerusalemu kutoka mlima wa Mizeituni ulioko karibu kilomita moja kutoka mjini.
Then they returned to Jerusalem, from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, within a sabbath-day's journey.
13 Walipofika mjini waliingia katika chumba ghorofani ambamo walikuwa wanakaa; nao walikuwa Petro, Yohane, Yakobo, Andrea, Filipo na Thoma, Bartholomayo na Mathayo, Yakobo mwana wa Alfayo, Simoni Zelote na Yuda mwana wa Yakobo.
And when they had come in, they went up into the upper room where they were making their abode, namely, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the zealot, and Judas the brother of James.
14 Hawa wote walikusanyika pamoja kusali, pamoja na wanawake kadha wa kadha, na Maria mama yake Yesu, na ndugu zake.
These all continued with one accord in prayer, with women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.
15 Siku chache baadaye, kulikuwa na mkutano wa waumini, karibu watu mia moja na ishirini. Petro alisimama mbele yao,
And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren, and said, (the number of the names together was about one hundred and twenty, )
16 akasema, “Ndugu zangu, ilikuwa lazima ile sehemu ya Maandiko Matakatifu itimie, sehemu ambayo Roho Mtakatifu, kwa maneno ya Daudi, alibashiri habari za Yuda ambaye aliwaongoza wale waliomtia Yesu nguvuni.
Brethren, it was necessary that this scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit through the mouth of David spoke before concerning Judas, who became guide to those who took Jesus.
17 Yuda alikuwa mmoja wa kikundi chetu maana alichaguliwa ashiriki huduma yetu.
For he was numbered among us, and obtained the allotment of this ministry.
18 (“Mnajua kwamba yeye alinunua shamba kwa zile fedha alizopata kutokana na kitendo chake kiovu. Akaanguka chini, akapasuka na matumbo yake yakamwagika nje.
Now this man purchased a field with the wages of the iniquity; and falling headlong he burst asunder in the middle, and all his bowels gushed out.
19 Kila mtu katika Yerusalemu alisikia habari za tukio hilo na hivyo, kwa lugha yao, wakaliita lile shamba Hekeli Dama, maana yake, Shamba la Damu.)
And it became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that that field is called in their own tongue, Aceldamach, that is, Field of Blood.
20 Basi, imeandikwa katika kitabu cha Zaburi: Nyumba yake ibaki mahame; mtu yeyote asiishi ndani yake. Tena imeandikwa: Mtu mwingine achukue nafasi yake katika huduma hiyo.
For it is written in the book of Psalms, “Let his habitation be made desolate, and let no one dwell therein;” and, “Let another take his office.”
21 Kwa hiyo, ni lazima mtu mwingine ajiunge nasi kama shahidi wa ufufuo wake Bwana Yesu.
Of these men, therefore, who accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
22 Anapaswa kuwa mmoja wa wale waliokuwa katika kundi letu wakati wote Bwana alipokuwa anasafiri pamoja nasi, tangu wakati Yohane alipokuwa anabatiza mpaka siku ile Yesu alipochukuliwa kutoka kwetu kwenda mbinguni.”
from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us, must one be made a witness with us of his resurrection.
23 Basi, wakataja majina ya watu wawili; wa kwanza Yosefu aliyeitwa Barsaba (au pia Yusto), na wa pili Mathia.
And they proposed two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.
24 Kisha wakasali: “Bwana, wewe unajua mioyo ya watu wote. Hivyo, utuonyeshe ni yupi kati ya hawa wawili uliyemchagua
And they prayed saying, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show which of these two thou hast chosen
25 ili achukue nafasi hii ya huduma ya kitume aliyoacha Yuda akaenda mahali pake mwenyewe.”
to take the part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell away, that he might go to his own place.
26 Hapo, wakapiga kura; kura ikampata Mathia, naye akaongezwa katika idadi ya wale mitume wengine kumi na mmoja.
And they cast lots for them; and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
