1 Tuseme nini basi? Tuendelee katika dhambi ili neema iongezeke?
So what shall we say? Shall we continue in the sin so that the grace may abound?
2 La hasha. Sisi tuliokufa katika dhambi, tunawezaje tena kuishi katika hiyo?
Of course not! How can we who died to sin keep on living in it?
3 Je hamjui ya kuwa wale waliobatizwa katika Kristo walibatizwa katika mauti yake?
Or are you unaware that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?
4 Tulikuwa tumezikwa pamoja naye kupitia ubatizo katika kifo. Hii ilifanyika ili kwamba kama vile Kristo alivyoinuliwa kutoka mauti kupitia utukufu wa Baba, ili kwamba nasi tuweze kutembea katika upya wa maisha.
Therefore, we were buried with Him by means of that baptism into that death, so that just as Christ was raised from the dead by means of the Father's glory, we also should walk in newness of life.
5 Maana ikiwa tumeunganishwa pamoja naye katika mfano wa kifo chake, pia tutaunganishwa katika ufufuo wake.
Now if we have become united with Him in His death, we will certainly be in His resurrection as well;
6 Sisi tunajua hivi, utu wetu wa zamani ulisulubiwa pamoja naye, ili kwamba mwili wa dhambi uharibiwe. Hii ilitokea ili kwamba tusiendelee kuwa watumwa wa dhambi.
knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him in order that the body of the sin might be set aside, so that we no longer be enslaved to that sin—
7 Yeye aliyekufa amefanywa mwenye haki kulingana na dhambi.
because he who has died has been released from that sin.
8 Lakini kama tumekufa pamoja na Kristo, tunaamini kwamba tutaishi pamoja naye pia.
Now since we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with Him,
9 Tunajua kwamba Kristo amefufuliwa kutoka katika wafu, na kwamba si mfu tena. Kifo hakimtawali tena.
knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, cannot die again; death can no longer master Him
10 Maana kwa habari ya kifo alichokufa kwa dhambi, alikufa mara moja kwa ajili ya wote. Hata hivyo, maisha anayoishi, anaishi kwa ajili ya Mungu.
—the death He died He died to sin once for all, while the life He lives He lives to God.
11 Kwa njia iyo hiyo, nanyi pia mnapaswa kujihesabu kuwa wafu katika dhambi, bali hai kwa Mungu katika Kristo Yesu.
Thus you also, consider yourselves to be dead indeed to the sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
12 Kwa sababu hiyo usiruhusu dhambi itawale mwili wako ili kusudi uweze kuzitii tamaa zake.
Therefore do not let the sin reign in your mortal body, so that you obey it with the body's evil desires
13 Usitoe sehemu za mwili wako katika dhambi kama vyombo visivyo na haki, bali jitoeni wenyewe kwa Mungu, kama walio hai kutoka mautini. Na zitoeni sehemu za miili yenu kama vyombo vya haki kwa Mungu.
—do not present any part of your body to sin as an implement for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead, and your body parts to God as implements for righteousness.
14 Msiiruhusu dhambi iwatawale. Kwa kuwa hamko chini ya sheria, bali chini ya neema.
Really, sin must not rule over you, because you are not under law but under grace.
15 Nini basi? Tutende dhambi kwa kuwa hatupo chini ya sheria, bali chini ya neema? La hasha.
What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Of course not!
16 Hamjui ya kuwa kwake yeye ambaye mnajitoa wenyewe kama watumishi ndiye ambaye ninyi mnakuwa watumishi wake, yeye mnayepaswa kumtii? Hii ni kweli hata kama ninyi ni watumwa katika dhambi ambayo inapelekea mauti, au watumwa wa utii unaopelekea haki.
Do you not know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey them as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey—whether of sin into death, or of obedience into righteousness?
17 Lakini ashukuriwe Mungu! Kwa kuwa mlikuwa watumwa wa dhambi, lakini mmetii kutoka moyoni ile namna ya fundisho mliopewa.
But thanks be to God that although you used to be the slaves of the sin you wholeheartedly obeyed that pattern of doctrine into which you were delivered.
18 Mmefanywa huru kutoka kwenye dhambi, na mmefanywa watumwa wa haki.
So having been emancipated from the sin, you became enslaved to the righteousness.
19 Ninazungumza kama mtu kwa sababu ya madhaifu ya miili yenu. Kwa maana kama vile mlivyotoa viungo vya miili yenu kuwa watumwa kwa uchafu na uovu, kwa jinsi iyo hiyo, sasa toeni viungo vya miili yenu kuwa watumwa wa haki kwa utakaso.
I continue to speak on a human level because of the weakness of your flesh. Now just as you used to present your body parts as slaves to uncleanness, and to ever increasing lawlessness, so now present your body parts as slaves to righteousness with a view to sanctification.
20 Kwa kuwa mlipokuwa watumwa wa dhambi, mlikuwa huru mbali na haki.
For when you were slaves to the sin, you were ‘free’ from the righteousness.
21 Kwa wakati huo, mlikuwa na tunda lipi kwa mambo ambayo kwa sasa mnaona aibu kwayo? Kwa kuwa matokeo ya mambo hayo ni kifo.
So what ‘fruit’ did you have at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? The end of those things is death!
22 Lakini kwa kuwa sasa mmefanywa huru mbali na dhambi na mmefanyika watumwa kwa Mungu, mna tunda kwa ajili ya utakaso. Tokeo ni uzima wa milele. (aiōnios g166)
But now, having been emancipated from the sin, and having become enslaved to God, you have your ‘fruit’ into sanctification—and the end is eternal life! (aiōnios g166)
