1 Kisha wale viongozi wa nyumba za mababa wa ukoo wa Gileadi mwana wa Machiri (ambaye alikuwa mwana wa Manase), ambao walikuwa wa ukoo wa uzao wa Yusufu, walikuja wakasema mbele za Musa na mbele za vionigozi wa familia za mababa wa watu wa Israeli.
The family leaders of the clan of Gilead of the tribe of Manasseh went to Moses/me and the other family leaders of the Israeli people.
2 Wakasema, “BWANA alikuamuru, wewe bwana wetu, kutupa mgawo wa ardhi kwa kura kwa wana wa Israeli. Uliamuriwa na BWANA kutoa mgawo wa Zerofehadi kaka yetu kwa binti zake.
They said to Moses/me, “Yahweh commanded you, our leader, to apportion the land to the Israeli tribes by throwing (lots/stones that have been marked) to decide [which group would get which area]. Yahweh also commanded you to give the land that belonged to our fellow Israeli Zelophehad to his daughters.
3 Lakini hawa binti wameolewa na wanaume toka kabila zingine za wana wa Israeli, basi mgawo wao wa ardhi utaondolewa kutoka kwenye mgawo wa mababa zao. Utaongezwa kwenye mgawo wa makabila ambayo wao wanaungana nao. Kwa sababu hiyo, Utaondolewa kwenye mgawo uliopangwa kwenye urithi wetu.
But if his daughters marry men from the other Israeli tribes, that land will no longer belong to our tribe. People of other tribes will get it. So some of our land will no longer belong to us.
4 Kwa sababu hiyo, wakati wa mwaka wa yubilee ya wana wa Israeli utakapofika, mgawo wao utaunganishwa na kabila ile waliyoungana nao. Kwa sababu hii mgawo wao utaondolewa kwenye mgawo wa mababa zetu.”
When the Year of Celebration comes, [when all the land that has been bought by someone is returned to its original owners], the land that belonged to Zelophehad will belong to the tribes of the men that his daughters marry. So some of our land, the land that we received from our fathers, will be taken from us, [and we will never own it again].”
5 Basi Musa akawapa amri wana wa Israeli, kwa neno la BWANA. Akasema, “Kile wanachosema watu wa kabila la Yusufu kiko sahihi.
Yahweh told Moses/me what to reply to them, so Moses/I said this to them: “These men from the tribe of Manasseh are right.
6 Hiki ndicho BWANA anaagiza kuhusu mabinti wa Zelofehadi. Anasema, 'Acha waolewa na wale ambao wao wanaofikri ni vizuri zaidi, lakini lazima waolewe ndani ya kabila ya baba yao.'
This is what Yahweh is saying to the daughters of Zelophehad: ‘Each of you may marry anyone you want to, but you must marry only someone from your own tribe.’
7 Hakuna mgawo wa watu utakaobadilika kutoka kabila moja kwenda jingine. Kila mtu wa Israeli ataendelea na mgawo wa kabila ya baba y ake.
In that way, the land that belongs to Israelis will not be passed from one tribe to another tribe. Each Israeli will keep the land in the tribe that belonged to his ancestors.
8 Kila mwanamke wa watu wa Israeli aliye na mgao kwenye kabila lake lazima aolewe na mtu wa ukoo unaotoka kwenye kabila la baba yake. Hii itafanyika hivyo ili kila mtu wa wana wa Israeli aweze kuwa na urithi kutoka kwa mababa zake.
A woman who inherits her father’s land may get married, but she must marry someone from her own tribe. In that way, every Israeli will keep the land that belonged to his ancestors.
9 Hakuna mgawo utakaobadilika kutoka kabila nyingine kwenda kabila nyingine. Kila mtu wa kabila za watu wa Israeli atalinda urithi wake.”
The land must not be passed from one tribe to another tribe. Each Israeli tribe must keep the land that it received from its ancestors.”
10 Kwa hiyo wale binti wa Zelofehadi walifanya kama vile BWANA alivyokuwa amemwamuru Musa. Mahila, Tiriza, Hogila, Milika, na Noha, binti za
Zelophehad’s daughters obeyed what Yahweh told Moses/me.
11 Zelofehadi, waliolewa na wana wa uzao wa Manase.
The five daughters—Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah and Noah—married their cousins, their father’s relatives.
12 Waliolewa katika koo za uzao wa Manase mwana wa Yusufu. Kwa sababu hii, urithi wao ulibaki kwenye kabila la ukoo ambalo baba yao alikuwa anatoka.
The men whom they married were from the tribe of Manasseh, so their land continued to belong to their father’s family and tribe.
13 Hizi ndizo amri na maagizo ambayo BWANAaliyatoa kupitia Musa kwa wana wa Israeli katika nyanda za Moabu karibu na Yorodani huko Yeriko.
Those were the commands [DOU] that Yahweh gave to Moses/me to tell to the Israelis, while they/we were on the plains of the Moab region, close to the Jordan River, across from Jericho.
