Mathayo 11
1 Ikawa baada ya Yesu kumaliza kuwaelekeza wanafunzi wake kumi na wawili aliondoka plae kwenda kufundisha na kuhubiri katika miji yao,
When Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he departed from there to teach and preach in the cities of Galilee.
2 na Yohana akiwa gereszani aliposikia akiwa juu ya matendo ya Kristo, alituma ujumbe kupitia wanafunzi wake,
Now when John heard in prison about the works Christ had done, he sent two of his disciples
3 na wakamuuliza, “Wewe ni yule ajaye, au kuna mwingine tunapaswa kumtazamia?”
to ask him, “Are yoʋ the one who is to come, or should we wait for another?”
4 Yesu akajibu na kusema kwao “Nendeni mkamtaarifu Yohana yale mnayoyaona na yale mnayoyasikia.
Jesus answered them, “Go tell John what you hear and see:
5 Watu wasioona wanapata kuona, viwete wanatembea, wakoma wanatakaswa, watu wasiosikia wanasikia tena, watu waliokufa wanafufuliwa kupata uhai, na watu wahitaji wanahubiriwa habari njema.
The blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are made clean and the deaf hear, the dead are raised and the poor have good news preached to them.
6 Na amebarikiwa yule asiyeona shaka juu yangu.
And blessed is anyone who does not take offense at me.”
7 Pindi watu hawa walipoondoka, Yesu alianza kusema na umati juu ya Yohana, “Ni nini mlikwenda kuona katika jangwa tete likitikiswa na upepo?
As these men went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
8 Lakini nini mlikwenda kuona mtu aliyevaa mavazi mololo? Hakika, wale wavaao mavazi mololo hukaa katika nyumba za wafalme.
What then did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those who wear soft garments are in the palaces of kings.
9 Lakini mliondoka kuona nini-Nabii? Ndiyo, nawaambia, na zaidi ya Nabii.
But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
10 Huyu ndiye aliyeandikiwa, 'Tazama, namtuma mjumbe wangu mbele ya uso wako, ambaye ataandaa njia yako mbele yako.
For this is the one of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of yoʋ, who will prepare yoʋr way before yoʋ.’
11 Mimi nawaambia kweli, kati ya waliozaliwa na wanawake hakuna aliye mkuu kuliko Yohana Mbatizaji. Lakini aliye mdogo katika ufalme wa mbinguni ni mkubwa kuliko yeye.
Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist, but whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
12 Toka siku za Yohana Mbatizaji mpaka sasa, ufalme wa Mbinguni ni wa nguvu, na watu wenye nguvu, huuchukua kwa nguvu.
From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has been suffering violence, and the violent try to take it by force.
13 Kwa kuwa manabii na sheria, ikamelcuwa wakitabiri mpaka kwa Yohana.
For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
14 Na kamamko tayari kukubali, huyu ni Eliya, yule ajaye.
And if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come.
15 Aliye na masikio ya kusikia na asikie.
He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
16 Nikilinganishe na nini kizazi hiki? Ni mfano wa watoto wanaocheza maeneo ya sokoni, wanaokaa na kuitana
“But to what should I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to their companions,
17 na kusema, 'Tuliwapigia zomari na hamkucheza. Tuliomboleza, na hamukulia.'
‘We played the flute for you, but you did not dance; we sang a lament for you, but you did not mourn.’
18 Kwa kuwa Yohana alikuja bila kula mkate au kunywa mvinyo, na wakawa wanasema, 'Ana pepo.'
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’
19 Mwana wa Adamu alikuja akila na kunywa na wakasema 'Angalia, ni mtu mlaji na mlevi, rafiki wa watoza ushuru na wenye dhambi!' Lakini hekima inadhihirishwa kwa matendo yake.''
The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her children.”
20 Yesu alianza kuikemea miji ambamo baadhi ya matendo yake ya ajabu yalitendeka, kwa sababu walikuwa hawajatubu,
Then Jesus began to reproach the cities in which most of his miracles had been done, because they did not repent:
21 Ole wako, Kolazini, Ole wako Bethsaida! Kama matendo makuu yangetendeka Tiro na Sidoni yale yaliyotendeka hapa, wangekuwa wametubu zamani kwa kuvaa magunia na kujipaka majivu.
“Woe to yoʋ, Chorazin! Woe to yoʋ, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22 Lakini itakuwa uvumilivu kwa Tiro na Sidoni siku ya hukumu kuliko kwako.
But I tell you, it will be more tolerable on the day of judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you.
23 Wewe, Kapernaum, unadhani utainuliwa hadi mbinguni? Hapana utashushwa hadi chini kuzimu. Kama kwa Sodoma kungefanyika matendo makuu, kama yalifanyika kwako, ingekuwepo hadi leo. (Hadēs g86)
And yoʋ, Capernaum, who have been exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades. For if the miracles that were done in yoʋ had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. (Hadēs g86)
24 Bali nasema kwako kwamba itakuwa rahisi kwa nchi ya Sodoma kusimama siku ya hukumu kuliko wewe.
But I tell you, it will be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for yoʋ.”
25 Katika muda huo Yesu alisema, “Nakusifu wewe, Baba, Bwana wa Mbingu na Nchi, kwa sababu uliwaficha mambo haya wenye hekima na ufahamu, na kuyafunua kwa wasio na elimu, kama watoto wadogo.
At that time Jesus said, “I praise yoʋ, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because yoʋ have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent, and revealed them to infants.
26 Baba kwa kuwa ilikupendeza hivyo machoni pako.
Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in yoʋr sight.
27 Mambo yote yamekabidhiwa kwangu kutoka kwa Baba. Na hakuna amjuaye Mwana isipokuwa Baba, na hakuna amjuaye Baba isipokuwa Mwana, na yeyote ambaye Mwana ana hamu ya kumfunulia.
All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
28 Njoni kwangu, nyinyi nyote mnaosumbuka na mnaolemewa na mzigo mzito, nami nitawapumzisha.
Come to me, all of you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.
29 Jitieni nira yangu na mjifunze kutoka kwangu, kwa kuwa mimi ni mnyenyekevu na mpole wa moyo na mtapata pumziko la nafsi zenu.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 Kwa kuwa nira yangu ni laini na mzigo wangu ni mwepesi.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
