Luka 3
1 Sasa, katika mwaka wa kumi na tano wa utawala wa Kaisari Tiberia, wakati Pontio Pilato alikuwa gavana wa Uyahudi, Herode alikuwa mkuu wa mkoa wa Galilaya, na Filipo ndugu yake alikuwa mkuu wa mkoa wa Iturea na Trakoniti, na Lisania alikuwa mkuu wa mkoa wa Abilene,
Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip being tetrarch of the region belonging to Ituraea, and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias being tetrarch of Abilene,
2 na wakati wa ukuhani mkuu wa Anasi na Kayafa, Neno la Mungu lilimjia Yohana mwana wa Zakaria, jangwani.
in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to be in John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.
3 Alisafiri katika mkoa wote kuzunguka Mto Yordani, akihubiri ubatizo wa toba kwa ajili ya msamaha wa dhambi
And he came into all the region around the Jordan, preaching an immersion of repentance for remission of sins,
4 Kama ilivyoandikwa katika kitabu cha maneno ya Isaya nabii, “sauti ya mtu aliaye nyikani, “Itengenezeni tayari njia ya Bwana, yatengenezeni mapito yake yaliyoonyoka.
as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, which says, The voice of a man crying out in the wilderness: Prepare ye the way of the Lord. Make his paths straight.
5 Kila bonde litajazwa, kila mlima na kilima vitasawazishwa, barabara zilizopinda zitanyoshwa, na njia zilizoparaza zitalainishwa.
Every valley will be filled, and every mountain and hill will be brought low. And the crooked things will be into straight and the rough into smooth ways.
6 Watu wote watauona wokovu wa Mungu.”
And all flesh will see the salvation of God.
7 Hivyo, Yohana akawaambia makutano makubwa ya watu waliomjia wapate kubatizwa na yeye, “Ninyi uzao wa nyoka wenye sumu, nani aliwaonya kuikimbia gadhabu inayokuja?
He said therefore to the multitudes who went out to be immersed by him, Ye offspring of vipers, who showed you to flee from the coming wrath?
8 Zaeni matunda yanayoedana na toba, na msianze kusema ndani yenu, “Tunaye Ibarahimu ambaye ni baba yetu; kwa sababu nawaambia ya kwamba, Mungu anaweza kumwinulia Ibrahimu watoto hata kutokana na mawe haya.
Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say within yourselves, We have a father, Abraham. For I say to you, that God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham.
9 Tayari shoka limeshawekwa kwenye mzizi wa miti. Hivyo, kila mti usiozaa matunda mema, hukatwa na kutupwa motoni.
And even now the axe is laid at the root of the trees. Every tree therefore not making good fruit is cut down, and cast into fire.
10 Kisha watu katika makutano walimuuliza wakisema, “Sasa tunatakiwa tufanyeje?”
And the crowds questioned him, saying, What then shall we do?
11 Alijibu na kuwaambia, “kama mtu ana kanzu mbili anatakiwa atoe kanzu moja kwa mwingine ambaye hana kabisa, na ambaye ana chakula na afanye vivyo hivyo.”
And having answered, he says to them, He who has two coats, let him share with him not having, and he who has food, let him do likewise.
12 Kisha baadhi ya watoza ushuru walikuja pia kubatizwa, na wakamwambia, “Mwalimu, tunatakiwa kufanya nini?
And tax collectors also came to be immersed, and they said to him, Teacher, what should we do?
13 Akawaambia, “Msikusanye fedha zaidi kuliko mnachotakiwa kukusanya.”
And he said to them, Collect not one thing more than from what has been appointed for you.
14 Baadhi ya maaskari pia wakamuuliza wakisema, “Na sisi je? Tunatakiwa tufanye nini?” Akawambia, “Msichukue fedha kwa mtu yeyote kwa nguvu, na msimtuhumu mtu yeyote kwa uongo. Ridhikeni na mishahara yenu.”
And men who were soldiers also questioned him, saying, And we, what should we do? And he said to them, Do violence to no man, nor accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.
15 Sasa, kwa kuwa watu walikuwa na shauku ya kumngojea Kristo atakaye kuja, kila mmoja alikuwa anawaza moyoni mwake kuhusu Yohana kama yeye ndiye Kristo.
And as the people were expectant, and all pondering in their hearts about John, if perhaps he was the Christ,
16 Yohana akajibu kwa kuwaambia wote, “Mimi nawabatiza ninyi kwa maji, lakini kuna mmoja ajaye ambaye ana nguvu kuliko mimi, na sisitahili hata kufungua kamba za viatu vyake. Atawabatiza ninyi kwa Roho Mtakatifu na kwa moto.
John responded, saying to them all, I indeed immerse you in water, but a man mightier than I comes, of whom I am not worthy to unloose the strap of his shoes. He will immerse you in the Holy Spirit and fire,
17 Pepeto lake liko mkononi mwake ili kusafisha vizuri uwanda wake wa kupepetea ngano na kuikusanya ngano ghalani mwake. Lakini, atayateketeza makapi kwa moto ambao hauwezi kuzimika.
whose winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor, and will gather the wheat into his storehouse, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.
18 Kwa maonyo mengine mengi pia, alihubiri habari njema kwa watu.
Indeed therefore, also exhorting the people with many other things, he preached the good news.
19 Yohana alimkemea pia Herode mkuu wa mkoa kwa kumuoa Herodia, mke wa ndugu yake na kwa maovu mengine mengi ambayo Herode alikuwa ameyatenda.
But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him about Herodias his brother's wife, and about all of which evil things Herod had done,
20 Lakini baadaye Herode alifanya uovu mwingine mbaya sana. Alimfunga Yohana gerezani.
also added this to them all, he even locked up John in prison.
21 Kisha ilitokea kwamba, wakati watu wote walipokuwa wakibatizwa na Yohana, naye Yesu alibatizwa pia. Wakati alipokuwa akiomba, mbingu zikafunguka.
Now it came to pass, during the immersion of all the people, Jesus also having been immersed and praying, for the heaven to be opened,
22 Roho Mtakatifu akashuka juu yake kwa mfano wa kiwiliwili kama njiwa, wakati huo huo sauti ikaja kutoka mbinguni ikisema, “Wewe ni Mwanangu mpendwa. Ninapendezwa sana na wewe.”
and the Holy Spirit to descend in a bodily form as a dove upon him, and a voice to occur out of heaven, saying, Thou are my beloved Son. In thee I am well pleased.
23 Sasa Yesu mwenyewe, alipoanza kufundisha, alikuwa na umri upatao miaka thelathini. Alikuwa ni mwana (kama ilivyotadhaniwa) wa Yusufu, mwana wa Eli,
And Jesus himself was beginning to be about thirty years old, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the son of Heli,
24 mwana wa Mathati, mwana wa Lawi, mwana wa Melki, mwana wa Yana, mwana wa Yusufu,
the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Janna, the son of Joseph,
25 mwana wa Matathia, mwana wa Amosi, mwana wa Nahumu, mwana wa Esli, mwana wa Nagai,
the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai,
26 mwana wa Maati, mwana wa Matathia, mwana wa Semeini, mwana wa Yusufu, mwana wa Yuda,
the son of Maath, the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein, the son of Joseph, the son of Joda,
27 mwana wa Yoanani, mwana wa Resa, mwana wa Zerubabeli, mwana wa Shealtieli, mwana wa Neri,
the son of Joannan, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri,
28 mwana wa Melki, mwana wa Adi, mwana wa Kosamu, mwana wa Elmadamu, mwana wa Eri,
the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmadam, the son of Er,
29 mwana wa Yoshua, mwana wa Eliezeri, mwana wa Yorimu, mwana wa Matathi, mwana wa Lawi,
the son of Jose, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi,
30 mwana wa Simeoni, mwana wa Yuda, mwana wa Yusufu, mwana wa Yonamu, mwana wa Eliyakimu,
the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim,
31 mwana wa Melea, mwana wa Mena, mwana wa Matatha, mwana wa Nathani, mwana wa Daudi,
the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David,
32 mwana wa Yese, mwana wa Obedi, mwana wa Boazi, mwana wa Salmoni, mwana wa Nashoni,
the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon,
33 mwana wa Abinadabu, mwana wa Aramu, mwana wa Hesroni, mwana wa Peresi, mwana wa Yuda,
the son of Amminadab, the son of Ram, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah,
34 mwana wa Yakobo, mwana wa Isaka, mwana wa Ibrahimu, mwana wa Tera, mwana wa Nahori,
the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor,
35 mwana wa Seruig, mwana wa Ragau, mwana wa Pelegi, mwana wa Eberi, mwana wa Sala,
the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Heber, the son of Shelah
36 mwana wa Kenani, mwana wa Arfaksadi, mwana wa Shemu, mwana wa Nuhu, mwana wa Lameki,
the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,
37 mwana wa Methusela, mwana wa Henoko, mwana wa Yaredi, mwana Mahalalei, mwana wa Kenani,
the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalaleel, the son of Cainan,
38 mwana wa Enoshi, mwana wa Sethi, mwana wa Adamu, mwana wa Mungu.
the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.
