Yohana 1
1 Mwanzoni kulikuwako Neno, na Neno alikuwa pamoja na Mungu, na Neno alikuwa Mungu.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 Huyu, Neno, Mwanzoni alikuwa pamoja na Mungu.
He Himself existed in the beginning with God.
3 Vitu vyote vilifanyika kupitia yeye, na pasipo yeye hakuna hata kitu kimoja kilichokuwa kimefanyika.
All things came to be by Him; that is, apart from Him not even one thing that has come into being came to be.
4 Ndani yake kulikuwa uzima, na huo uzima ulikuwa nuru ya wanadamu wote.
In Him was life, and the Life was the Light of mankind.
5 Nuru yang'aa gizani, wala giza halikuizimisha.
Now the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 Palikuwa na mtu aliyetumwa kutoka kwa Mungu, ambaye jina lake alikuwa Yohana.
There was a man, sent from God, whose name was John.
7 Alikuja kama shahidi kushuhudia kuhusu ile nuru, ili kwamba wote waweze kuamini kupitia yeye.
This man came as a witness to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him.
8 Yohana hakuwa ile nuru, bali alikuja ili ashuhudie kuhusu ile nuru
He himself was not the Light but was to testify about the Light—
9 Hiyo ilikuwa nuru ya kweli ambayo ilikuwa inakuja katika dunia nayo humtia nuru kila mmoja
the true Light which illumines everyone who comes into the world.
10 Alikuwa katika dunia, na dunia iliumbwa kupitia yeye, na dunia haikumjua.
He was in the world, the world that came into being by Him, yet the world did not know Him.
11 Alikuja kwa vitu vyake, na watu wake hawakumpokea.
He came to His own things, yet His own people did not receive Him.
12 Bali kwa wale wengi waliompokea, ambao waliamini jina lake, kwa hao aliwapa haki ya kuwa wana wa Mungu,
But, as many as did receive Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe into His name:
13 Ambao walizaliwa, sio kwa damu, wala kwa mapenzi ya mwili, wala kwa mapenzi ya mtu, bali kwa Mungu mwenyewe.
who were begotten, not by blood, nor by the desire of the flesh, nor by the will of a man, but by God.
14 Naye Neno alifanyika mwili na akaishi miongoni mwetu, tumeuona utukufu wake, utukufu kama wa mtu pekee wa kipekee aliyekuja kutoka kwa Baba, amejaa neema na kweli.
So the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we observed His glory, glory of an Only-begotten, from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 Yohana alishuhudia kuhusu yeye, na alipaza sauti akisema, “Huyu ndiye ambaye nilisema habari zake nikisema, “Yule ajaye baada yangu ni mkuu kuliko mimi, kwa sababu amekuwako kabla yangu.”
John testified about Him and called out saying: “This is He of whom I said, ‘The One coming after me is now ahead of me, because He existed before I did.’”
16 Kwa kuwa kutoka katika utimilifu wake, sisi sote tumepokea bure kipawa baada ya kipawa.
Now we have all received from His fullness, yes, grace upon grace.
17 Kwa kuwa sheria ililetwa kupitia Musa. Neema na kweli vilikuja kupitia Yesu Kristo.
Because the Law was given through Moses; the Grace and the Truth came through Jesus Christ.
18 Hakuna mwanadamu aliyemwona Mungu wakati wowote. Mtu pekee ambaye ni Mungu, aliye katika kifua cha Baba, amemfanya yeye ajulikane.
No one has ever seen God. The Only-begotten Son, who exists in the bosom of the Father, He has interpreted Him.
19 Na huu ndio ushuhuda wa Yohana wakati makuhani na walawi waliotumwa kwake na Wayahudi kumwuliza, “Wewe ni nani?”
Now this is John's testimony, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”
20 Bila kusitasita na hakukana, bali alijibu, “Mimi sio Kristo.”
He confessed, he did not deny but confessed, “I am not the Christ.”
21 Hivyo wakamuuliza, “kwa hiyo wewe ni nani sasa?” Wewe ni Eliya? Akasema, “Mimi siye.” Wakasema, Wewe ni nabii? Akajibu,” Hapana.”
So they asked him, “What then, are you Elijah?” And he says, “I am not.” “Are you ‘the Prophet’?” “No,” he answered.
22 Kisha wakamwambia, “Wewe ni nani, ili kwamba tuwape jibu waliotutuma”? Wajishuhudiaje wewe mwenyewe?”
So they said to him: “Who are you?—so that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
23 Akasema, “Mimi ni sauti yake aliaye nyikani: 'Inyosheni njia ya Bwana,' kama nabii Isaya alivyosema.”
He said, “I am ‘the voice of one calling out: “Make the Lord's road straight in the wilderness,”’ just as the prophet Isaiah said.”
24 Basi kulikuwa na watu wametumwa pale kutoka kwa Mafarisayo. Wakamuuliza na kusema,
Now those who had been sent were from the Pharisees.
25 “Kwa nini unabatiza basi kama wewe sio Kristo wala Eliya wala nabii?”
So they asked him saying, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor ‘the Prophet’?”
26 Yohana aliwajibu akisema, “Ninabatiza kwa maji. Hata hivyo, miongoni mwenu anasimama mtu msiyemtambua.
John answered them saying: “I baptize with water, but among you stands One whom you do not know.
27 Huyu ndiye ajaye baada yangu. Mimi sisitahili kulegeza kamba za viatu vyake.”
He is the One coming after me who is now ahead of me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose.”
28 Mambo haya yalitendeka huko Bethania, ng'ambo ya Yordani, mahali ambapo Yohana alikuwa akibatiza.
These things happened in Bithabara, across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 Siku iliyofuata Yohana alimwona Yesu akija kwake akasema, “Tazama mwanakondoo wa Mungu aichukuae dhambi ya ulimwengu!
The next day John sees Jesus coming toward him and says: “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
30 huyu ndiye niliyesema habari zake nikisema, “Yeye ajaye nyuma yangu ni mkuu kuliko mimi, kwa kuwa alikuwa kabla yangu.'
This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who is now ahead of me, because He existed before I did.’
31 Sikumtambua yeye, lakini ilifanyika hivyo ili kwamba afunuliwe katika Israeli, kwamba nilikuja nikibatiza kwa maji.”
I did not know Him; but so that He should be revealed to Israel, that is why I came baptizing with water.”
32 Yohana alishuhudia, “Niliona Roho akishuka kutoka mbinguni mfano wa hua, na ilibaki juu yake.
And John testified saying: “I observed the Spirit coming down like a dove out of heaven, and He rested upon Him.
33 Mimi sikumtambua lakini yeye aliyenituma ili nibatize kwa maji aliniambia, 'yule ambaye utaona Roho akishuka na kukaa juu yake, Huyo ndiye abatizaye kwa Roho Mtakatifu.'
Now I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water, He said to me, ‘The One upon whom you see the Spirit coming down and resting—this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’
34 Nimeona na nimeshuhudia kwamba huyu ni Mwana wa Mungu.”
So I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”
35 Tena siku iliyofuata Yohana alikuwa amesimama pamoja na wanafunzi wake wawili,
Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples.
36 walimwona Yesu akitembea na Yohana akasema, “Tazama, Mwana kondoo wa Mungu!”
And seeing Jesus walking by, he says, “Look, the Lamb of God!”
37 Wanafunzi wawili walimsikia Yohana akisema haya wakamfuata Yesu.
The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
38 Tena Yesu aligeuka na kuwaona wanafunzi wale wakimfuata, na akawambia, “Mnataka nini?” Wakajibu, “Rabbi, (maana yake 'mwalimu,' unaishi wapi?”
So turning and observing them following Jesus says to them, “What do you want?” So they said to Him, “Rabbi” (which translated means ‘Teacher’), “where are You staying?”
39 Akawambia, “Njooni na mwone.”Kisha walikwenda na kuona mahali alipokuwa akiishi; walikaa pamoja naye siku hiyo, kwa kuwa ilikuwa yapata kama saa kumi hivi.
He says to them, “Come and see.” So they went and saw where He was staying, and stayed with Him that day—it was about the tenth hour.
40 Mmoja wa wale wawili waliomsikia Yohana akiongea na kisha kumfuata Yesu alikuwa ni Andrea, ndugu yake Simoni Petro.
One of the two who heard John and followed Him was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
41 Akamwona ndugu yake Simoni na akamwambia, “Tumempata Masihi” (ambayo inatafsiriwa Kristo).
He first finds his own brother Simon and says to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated ‘Christ’).
42 Akamleta kwa Yesu. Yesu akamtazama na akasema, “Wewe ni Simoni mwana wa Yohana” utaitwa Kefa,” (maana yake 'Petro').
And he led him to Jesus. Looking at him Jesus said, “You are Simon, the son of Jonah; you will be called Cephas” (which is translated ‘Stone’).
43 Siku iliyofuata wakati Yesu alipotaka kuondoka kwenda Galilaya, alimpata Filipo na akamwambia, “Nifuate mimi.”
The next day He decided to go to Galilee, so He finds Philip and says to him, “Follow me.”
44 Filipo alikuwa ni mwenyeji wa Bethsaida, mji wa Andrea na Petro.
(Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the hometown of Andrew and Peter.)
45 Filipo alimpata Nathanaeli na kumwambia, Tumempata yule ambaye Musa aliandika habari zake katika sheria na Manabii. Yesu mwana wa Yusufu, kutoka Nazareti.
Philip finds Nathanael and says to him, “We have found the One of whom Moses in the Law—and also the prophets—wrote: Jesus the son of Joseph, from Natsareth.”
46 Nathanaeli akamwambia, “Je kitu chema chaweza kutokea Nazareti?” Filipo akamwambia, Njoo na uone.”
So Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Natsareth?” Philip says to him, “Come and see!”
47 Yesu akamwona Nathanaeli akija kwake na akasema, “Tazama, Mwisraeli kweli kweli asiye na udanganyifu ndani yake!”
Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him and says about him, “There, a genuine Israelite in whom there is no deceit!”
48 Nathanaeli akamwambia, “Umenifahamuje mimi?” Yesu akajibu na akamwambia, “Kabla Filipo hajakuita ulipokuwa chini ya mtini, nalikuona.”
Nathanael says to Him, “From where do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, while you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
49 Nathanaeli akajibu, “Rabi wewe u Mwana wa Mungu! Wewe ni Mfalme wa Israeli”!
In answer Nathanael says to Him: “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”
50 Yesu akajibu akamwambia, Kwa sababu nilikuambia 'nilikuona chini ya mtini' je waamini? utaona matendo makubwa kuliko haya.”
Jesus answered and said to him: “You believe because I said that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater than these.”
51 Yesu akasema, “Amini amini nawambieni mtaziona mbingu zikifunguka, na kuwaona malaika wakipanda na kushuka juu ya Mwana wa Adamu.”
And He says to him, “I tell you (pl) most assuredly, later on you will see the heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of the Man.”
