Yeremia 40
1 Hili lilikuwa neno ambalo lilikuja kwa Yeremia toka kwa Yahwe baada ya Nebuzaradni, amri wa walinzi wa mfalme, amemtuma mbali kutoka Ramah. Huko ndiko Yeremia alikuwa amechukuliwa, na huko alikuwa amefungwa kwa minyororo. Alikuwa miongoni mwa mateka wote ya Yerusalem na Yuda ambayo walipaswa kuwa matekani Babeli.
The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, after Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, hath sent him from Ramah, in his taking him — and he a prisoner in chains — in the midst of all the removal of Jerusalem and of Judah, who are removed to Babylon.
2 Mlinzi mkuu alimchukua Yeremia na kusema kwake, “Yahwe Mungu wako aliamrisha maafa haya dhidi ya eneo hili.
And the chief of the executioners taketh Jeremiah, and saith unto him, 'Jehovah thy God hath spoken this evil concerning this place,
3 Basi Yahwe alileta. Alifanya kama alivyoamrisha, kwani ninyi watu mmefanya dhambi dhidi yake na hamkutii sauti yake. Hii ni sababu ya jambo hili limetokea kwenu. Lakini sasa tazama!
and Jehovah bringeth [it] in, and doth as He spake, because ye have sinned against Jehovah, and have not hearkened to His voice, even this thing hath been to you.
4 Nimekuacha huru leo toka kwenye minyororo iliyokuwa kwenye mikono yako. Kama ni vizuri katika macho yako kuja nami Babeli, njoo, na nitakujali. Lakini kama si vizuri katika macho yako kuja pamoja nami, basi usifanye hivyo. Tazama nchi yote mbele yako. Nenda ambapo ni pazuri na sawa katika macho yako kwenda.”
'And now, lo, I have loosed thee to-day from the chains that [are] on thy hand; if good in thine eyes to come with me [to] Babylon, come, and I keep mine eye upon thee: and if evil in thine eyes to come with me to Babylon, forbear; see, all the land [is] before thee, whither [it be] good, and whither [it be] right in thine eyes to go — go.' —
5 Wakati Yeremia hakujibu, Nebuzaradani alisema, “Nenda kwa Gedalia mwana wa Ahikam mwana wa Shafani, ambaye mfalme wa Babeli amemweka msimamizi wa miji ya Yuda. Baki pamoja naye miongoni mwa watu au nenda popote ni pazuri katika macho yako kwenda.” Amri wa walinzi wa mfalme alimpa chakula na zawadi, na kisha akamtuma mbali.
and while he doth not reply — 'Or turn back unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath appointed over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him in the midst of the people, or whithersoever it is right in thine eyes to go — go.' And the chief of the executioners giveth to him for the way, and a gift, and sendeth him away,
6 Basi Yeremia alienda kwa Gedalia mwana wa Ahikam, huko Mizpah. Alibaki pamoja naye miongoni mwa watu ambao walibaki nyuma katika nchi.
and Jeremiah cometh in unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwelleth with him, in the midst of the people who are left in the land.
7 Sasa baadhi ya amri wa wanawajeshi wa Yuda ambao walikuwa bado katika uwanja- wao na watu wao - walisikia kuwa mfalme wa Babeli alimfanya Gedalia mwana wa Ahikam, liwali juu ya nchi. Pia walisikia kuwa amemweka kusimamia wanaume, wanawake, na watoto ambao walikuwa watu maskini katika nchi, wale ambao hawakuwa wamechukuliwa mateka Babeli.
And all the heads of the forces that [are] in the field hear, they and their men, that the king of Babylon hath appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam over the land, and that he hath charged him [with] men, and women, and infants, and of the poor of the land, of those who have not been removed to Babylon;
8 Basi walienda kwa Gedalia huko Mizpa. Hawa watu walikuwa Ishmaeli mwana Nethania; Yonathan na Yonathani, wana wa Kareaa; Seraya mwana wa Tanhumethi; wana wa Efai Netophathite; na Yezania mwana wa Mmaaka-wao na watu wao.
and they come in unto Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan sons of Kareah, and Seraiah son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah son of the Maachathite, they and their men.
9 Gedalia mwana wa Ahikam mwana wa Shafan, alichukua kiapo kwao na kwa watu wao, na kusema kwao, “Usiogope kuwatumikia maafisa wa Wakaldayo. Ishi katika nchi na kumtumkia mfalme wa Babeli, na itakuwa vizuri kwenu.
And swear to them doth Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, and to their men, saying, 'Be not afraid of serving the Chaldeans, abide in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it is well for you;
10 Na tazama, Ninaishi Mizpa kukutana pamoja na Wakaldayo waliokuja kwetu. Basi vuna mvinyo, matunda ya kiangazi, na mafuta na viweke kwenye vyombo vyako. Uishi katika miji ambayo umechukua.”
and I, lo, I am dwelling in Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who are come in unto us, and ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruit, and oil, and put in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.'
11 Kisha Wayahudi wote katika Moabu, miongoni mwa watu wa Ammoni, na katika Edomu, na katika kila nchi ilisikiwa kwamba mfalme wa Babalei ameruhusu mabaki ya Yuda kubaki, kwamba alimteua Gedalia mwana wa Ahikam mwana wa Shafani juu yao.
And also all the Jews who [are] in Moab, and among the sons of Ammon, and in Edom, and who [are] in all the lands, have heard that the king of Babylon hath given a remnant to Judah, and that he hath appointed over them Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan,
12 Basi Wayahudi wote walirudi toka kila eneo ambako walikuwa wametawanyika. Walirudi kwenye nchi ya Yuda, kwa Gedalia huko Mizpa. Walivuna mvinyo na matunda ya kiangazi kwa wingi.
and all the Jews from all the places whither they have been driven, turn back and enter the land of Judah, unto Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and they gather wine and summer fruit — very much.
13 Yonathan mwana wa Karea na amri wote wa jeshi katika uwanja walikuja kwa Gedalia huko Mizpa.
And Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces that [are] in the field, have come in unto Gedaliah to Mizpah,
14 Walisema kwake, “Haujui kuwa Baalis mfalme wa watu wa Ammoni amemtuma Ishmael mwana wa Nethania kukuua?” Lakini Gedalia mwana wa Ahikim hakuwaamini.
and they say unto him, 'Dost thou really know that Baalis king of the sons of Ammon hath sent Ishmael son of Nethaniah to smite thy soul?' And Gedaliah son of Ahikam hath not given to them credence.
15 Basi Yonathan mwana wa Karea alizungumza kwa siri kwa Gedalia huko Mizpa na kusema, “Niruhusu niende kumuua Ishmael mwana wa Nethania. Hakuna atakaye nituhumu. Kwanini asikuue wewe? Kwanini kuruhusu Yuda yote ambayo imekusanywa kwako kutawanyishwa na mabaki ya Yuda kuharibiwa?”
And Johanan son of Kareah hath spoken unto Gedaliah in secret, in Mizpah, saying, 'Let me go, I pray thee, and I smite Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and no one doth know; why doth he smite thy soul? and scattered have been all Judah who are gathered unto thee, and perished hath the remnant of Judah.'
16 Lakini Gedalia mwana wa Ahikam alisema kwa Yonathan mwana wa Karea, “Usifanye jambo hili, kwa kuwa unasema uongo kuhusu Ishmael.”
And Gedaliah son of Ahikam saith unto Johanan son of Kareah, 'Thou dost not do this thing, for falsehood thou art speaking concerning Ishmael.'
