Hagai 1
1 Katika mwaka wa pili wa mfalme Dario, katika mwezi wa sita, siku ya kwanza ya mwezi, neno la Bwana likaja kwa kwa mkono wa nabii Haghai kwenda kwa gavana wa Yuda, Zerubabeli mwana wa Sheatieli na kuhani mkuu Joshua mwana wa Yehozadaki, kusema,
In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, came the word of Jehovah by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua, the son of Josedech, the high-priest, saying,
2 “Bwana wa Majeshi asema: 'Hawa watu husema, “Si wakati wetu kuja au kujenga nyumba ya Jehova."””
Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: This people saith, The time is not yet come, the time that the house of Jehovah should be built.
3 Tena neno la Bwana lilikuja kwa mkono wa nabii Haghai kusema,
But the word of Jehovah hath come by Haggai the prophet, saying: —
4 “Je ni wakati kwenu wenyewe kuishi katika nyumba zilizokamilika, na wakati nyumba hii inaharibika?
Is it, then, a time for yourselves To dwell in ceiled houses, While this house lieth waste?
5 Kwa hiyo sasa Bwana wa Majeshi asema hivi: 'zitafakarini njia zenu!
Therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider how it goeth with you!
6 Mmepanda mbengu nyingi, lakini mkaleta mavuno kidogo; mnakula lakini hamshibi, mnakunywa lakini hamkujazwa na vinywaji. Mnavaa nguo lakini hampati joto wenyewe, na mtu wa mshahara hupata pesa na kuweka kwenye mfuko wenye mashimo tu!'
Ye sow much, and bring in little; Ye eat, but are not full; Ye drink, but are not satisfied; Ye clothe yourselves, but are not warmed; And he that earneth wages earneth them for a purse with holes.
7 Bwana wa Majeshi asema haya:
Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider how it goeth with you!
8 'Zitafakarini njia zetu! Pandeni milimani, mkalete mbao, na mjenge nyumba yangu; na pia nitakuwa radhi na nitatukuzwa!' Asema Bwana.
Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house, That I may have pleasure therein, And be glorified, saith Jehovah.
9 'Mmetazamia kupata vingi, lakini tazama! ulileta nyumbani vichache, nitavitowesha mbali! kwa nini?'- Hivi ndivyo anatamka Bwana wa Majeshi! kwa sababu nyumba yangu inakaa kwenye uharibifu, lakini kila mtu yuko radhi kwenye nyumba yake.
Ye look for much, and lo, it cometh to little; And when ye bring it home, I blow it away; And why? saith Jehovah of hosts. Because of my house which lieth waste, While ye run every one to his own house.
10 Kwa sababu hii mbingu zimeshikiwa zisitoe umande kutoka kwako, na ardhi imeshikilia haizalishi.
Therefore the heaven over you withholdeth the dew, And the earth refuseth her fruit.
11 Nimekuita kutoka juu ya ardhi na juu ya milima, juu ya nafaka na juu ya mzabibu mpya, juu ya mafuta na juu ya mavuno ya ardhi, juu ya watu na juu ya wanyama, na juu ya kazi zote za mikono yako.
And I have called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains; And upon the corn, and the new wine, and the oil; Upon that which the ground bringeth forth, And upon men, and upon cattle, And upon all the labor of the hands.
12 Kisha Zerubabeli mwana wa Shelitieli, na kuhani mkuu Yoshua mwana wa Yehozadaki, pamoja na mabaki ya watu, wakati sauti ya Bwana Mungu wao, na maneno ya Nabii Hagai, kwa sababu Bwana Mungu wao alikuwa amemtuma. Na watu wakaogopa uso wa Bwana.
Then Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua, the son of Josedech, the high-priest, and all the remnant of people, hearkened to the voice of Jehovah their God, and to the words of Haggai the prophet, as Jehovah their God had sent him; and the people feared before Jehovah.
13 Ndipo Hagai, mjumbe wa Bwana, akaongea ujumbe wa Bwana kwa watu na kusema,”'Niko pamoja na wewe!'- Hili ni tamko la Bwana.
Then spake Haggai, the messenger of Jehovah, by a message from Jehovah to the people, saying, I am with you, saith Jehovah.
14 Bwana alitibua roho ya mkuu wa mkoa wa Yudah, Zerubabeli mwana wa Sheltieli, na roho ya kuhani mkuu Joshua mwana wa Yehozadaki, na roho ya masalia ya watu, kwa kiasi kwamba wakaenda kufanya kazi katika nyumba ya Bwana Mungu wa majeshi, Mungu wao.
And Jehovah stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua, the son of Josedech, the high-priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of people, so that they came and executed work upon the house of Jehovah of hosts, their God,
15 katika siku ya ishirini na Mwezi wa sita, katika mwaka wa pili wa utawala wa Mfalme Dario.
on the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
