1 Rehoroboamu alipofiki Yerusalemu, akawakusanya nyumba ya Yuda na Benyamini, wanaume 180, 000 walaiaochaguliwa amabao wliakuwa wanajeshi, kwa ajili ya kupigana dhiidi ya Israeli, ili kuurudisha ufalme kwa Rehoboamu.
And when Rehoboam had entered Jerusalem, he called together the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, warriors, —to fight against Israel, to bring back the kingdom to Rehoboam.
2 Lakini neno la Yahwe likamjia Shemaya mtu wa Mungu, likisema,
Then came the word of Yahweh, unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying:
3 “Sema kwa Rehoboamu mwana wa Selemani, mfalme wa Yuda, na kwa Israeli kataika Yuda na Benyamaini,
Speak unto Rehoboam son of Solomon, king of Judah, —and unto all Israel in Judah and in Benjamin, saying:
4 Yahwe anasema hivi, “Msivamie wala kufanya vita dhidi ya ndugu zako. Kila mmoja lazima arudi kwenye nyumba yake, kwa maana nimesababisha jambo hili kutokea.” Kwa hiyo wakayatii maneno ya Yahwe na kuacha kumvamia Yeroboamu.
Thus, saith Yahweh, Ye shall not go up neither shall ye fight against your brethren, return every man to his own house, for, from me, hath this thing been brought about. So they hearkened unto the words of Yahweh, and turned back from going against Jeroboam.
5 Yeroboamu akaishi katika Yerusalemu na kujenga miji katika Yuda kwa ajili ya kujilinda.
And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, —and built cities for defence, in Judah;
6 Akaijenga Bethelehemu, EtamuTekoa,
yea he built Bethlehem and Etam, and Tekoa;
7 Bethsusi, Soko, Adulamu,
and Beth-zur and Soco, and Adullam;
8 Gathi, Maresha, Zifu,
and Gath and Mareshah, and Ziph;
9 Adoraimu, Lakishi, Azeka,
and Adoraim and Lachish, and Azekah;
10 Sora, Aiyaloni, na Hebroni. Hii ni miji yenye ngome katika Yuda na Benyamini.
and Zorah, and Aijalon and Hebron, which are in Judah and Benjamin, —as fortified cities.
11 Akaziimarisha ngome na kuweka maamri jeshsi ndani yake, pamaoja na hazina ya chakula, mafuta, na divai.
And he strengthened the fortified places, —and put therein captains, and stores of food, and oil and wine;
12 Akaweka ngao na mikuki katika miji yote na kuifanya imara sana. Kwa hiyo Yuda na Benyamini zikawa zake.
and, in every several city, shields and spears, and made them exceedingly strong, —thus Judah and Benjamin remained his.
13 Makuhani na Walawi waliokuwa katika Israeli yote wakaenda kwake kutoka ndani ya mipaka yao.
And, the priests and Levites that were in all Israel, took their stand with him, out of all their boundaries.
14 Kwa kuwa Walawi waliacha nchi za malisho yao na mali zao ili kuja Yuda na Yerusalemu, kwa maana
For the Levites left their pasture lands, and their possessions, and came to Judah, and to Jerusalem, —for Jeroboam and his sons cast them off, from ministering as priests unto Yahweh;
15 Yeroboamu na wanaaye walikuwa wamewafukuza, ili kwamba wasifanye majukumu yao ya kikuhani kwa ajili ya sehemu za juu na mbuzi na sanamu za ndama alizokuwa ametengeneza.
and appointed for himself priests for the high places, and for the demons—and for the calves which he had made.
16 Watu kutoka kabila zote za Israeli wakaja nyuma yao, wale walio wameiilekeza mioyo yao kumtafuta Yahwe, Mungu wa Israeli; wakaja Yerusalemu kwa ajili ya kumtolea dhabihu Yahwe. Mungu wa baba zao.
And, after them—out of all the tribes of Israel, such as were setting their heart to seek Yahweh God of Israel, came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto Yahweh, God of their fathers.
17 Kwa hiyo wakauimarisha ufalame wa Yuda na kumfanya imara Rehoboamu mwana wa Selemani kwa miaka mitatu, na wakatembea kwa miaka mitatu katika njia ya Daudi na Selemani.
So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and emboldened Rehoboam son of Solomon, for three years, —for they walked in the way of David and Solomon, for three years.
18 Rehoboamu akajitwalia mke: Mahalathi, binti wa Yerimothi, mwana wa Daudi na wa Abihaili, binti wa Eliabu, mwana wa Yese.
And Rehoboam took him to wife, Mahalath, daughter of Jerimoth, son of David, —and Abihail, daughter of Eliab, son of Jesse;
19 Akamzalia wana: Yeushi, Shemaraia, na Zahamu.
and she bare him sons, —Jeush and Shamariah and Zaham.
20 Baaad ya Mahalathi, Rehoboamu akamchukua Maaka, binti Absalomu; akamzalia Abiya, Atai, Ziza, na Shelomithi.
And, after her, he took Maacah, daughter of Absolom, —and she bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.
21 Rehoboamu akampenda Maaka, binti Solomoni, zaidi kuliko wake za wengine wote na masuria (alichukua wake kumi na nane na masuria sitini, na akawa baba wa wana ishirini na nane na mabinti sitini).
And Rehoboam loved Maacah daughter of Absolom, above all his wives and his concubines, for, eighteen wives, took he, and sixty concubines, —and begat twenty-eight sons, and sixty daughters.
22 Rehoboamu akamteua Abiya mwana wa Maaka kuwa mkuu, kiongozi miongoni mwa ndugu zake alikuwa na wazo la kumfanya mfalme.
So then Rehoboam appointed Abijah son of Maacah as head, to be chief ruler among his brethren, —yea that he might make him king.
23 Rehoboamu akatawala kwa hekima; akawatawanya wanaye katika nchi yote ya Yuda na Benyamini katika kila mji imara. Pia akawapa chakula kwa wingi na akatafuta wake wengi kwa ajili yao.
So he took heed, and dispersed all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, unto all the fortified cities, and gave them food in abundance, —and asked a multitude of wives.
