1 Kwa kuwa ninyi wenyewe mnajua, ndugu, kuwa ujio wetu kwenu haukuwa wa bure.
And you know, my brethren, that our entrance unto you was not in vain,
2 Mnajua kwamba mwanzoni tuliteseka na walitutenda kwa aibu kule Filipi, kama mujuavyo. Tulikuwa na ujasiri katika Mungu kunena injili ya Mungu hata katika taabu nyingi.
but having suffered before and been shamefully treated, as you know, in Philipos, and then (even) in great conflict we spoke with you with the confidence of our God the gospel of the Meshiha.
3 Kwa maana mahusia yetu hayatokani na ubaya, wala katika uchafu, wala katika hila.
For our exhortation was not from deceit, nor from uncleanness, nor from guile;
4 Badala yake, kama vile tulivyokubalika na Mungu na kuaminiwa injili, ndivyo tunenavyo. Tunanena, si kwa kuwafurahisha watu, lakini kumfurahisha Mungu. Yeye pekee ndiye achunguzaye mioyo yetu.
but as approved of Aloha to be intrusted with his gospel, so speaking as not to please men, but Aloha who trieth our hearts.
5 Kwa maana hatukutumia maneno ya kujipendekeza wakati wote wote, kama mjuavyo, wala ukutumia maneno kama kisingizio kwa tamaa, Mungu ni shahidi wetu.
For never have we used flattering speech, as you know, nor for an occasion of covetousness, Aloha witnesseth.
6 Wala hatukutafuta utukufu kwa watu, wala kutoka kwenu au kwa wengine. Tungeweza kudai kupendelewa kama mitume wa Kristo.
Neither have we sought glory from men, either from you or from others, though we could have been honoured ones, as the apostles of the Meshiha;
7 Badala yake tulikuwa wapole kati yenu kama mama awafarijivyo watoto wake mwenyewe.
but we were humble among you, and, as a nurse who loveth her children,
8 Kwa njia hii tulikuwa na upendo kwenu. Tulikuwa radhi kuwashirikisha si tu injili ya Mungu bali pia na maisha yetu wenyewe. Kwa kuwa mmekuwa wapendwa wetu.
so also we loved, and were desirous to impart to you, not only the gospel of Aloha, but also our life, because we loved you.
9 Kwa kuwa ndugu, mnakumbuka kazi na taabu yetu. Usiku na mchana tulikuwa tukifanya kazi kusudi tusije tukamlemea yeyote. Wakati huo, tuliwahubiria injili ya Mungu.
Remember, therefore, my brethren, how we laboured and toiled in the work of our hands by night and by day, that we might not be a burden on one of you.
10 Ninyi ni mashahidi, na Mungu pia, ni kwa utakatifu wa namna gani, haki, na bila lawama tulivyoenenda wenyewe mbele yenu mnaoamini.
You witness and Aloha, how we preached to you the gospel of Aloha, purely and justly, and were without blame with all the faithful.
11 Vivyo hivyo, mnajua ni kwa namna gani kwa kila mmoja wenu, kama baba alivyo kwa wanawe tulivyowahimiza na kuwatia moyo. Tulishuhudia
As you know how every one of you, as a father his children, we exhorted, and spoke with your hearts;
12 kwamba mlipaswa kuenenda kama ulivyo mwito wenu kwa Mungu, aliyewaita kwenye ufalme na utukufu wake.
and (now) we testify to you how you should walk worthy of Aloha himself who hath called you to his kingdom and to his glory.
13 Kwa sababu hiyo twamshukuru Mungu pia kila wakati. Kwa kuwa wakati mlipo pokea kutoka kwetu ujumbe wa Mungu mliosikia, mlipokea si kama neno la wanadamu. Badala yake, mlipokea kama kweli ilivyo, neno la Mungu. Ni neno hili ambalo linalofanya kazi kati yenu mnaoamini.
WHEREFORE we also give thanks constantly unto Aloha, that the word of Aloha which you received from us, was not as the word of man (that) you received (it), but, as it is truly, the word of Aloha, which in operation worketh (alike) in you and in all them who believe.
14 Kwa hivyo ninyi, ndugu, muwe watu wa kuiga makanisa ya Mungu yaliyoko katika Uyahudi katika Kristo Yesu. Kwa kuwa ninyi pia mliteseka katika mambo yale yale kutoka kwa watu wenu, kama ilivyo kuwa kutoka kwa wayahudi.
But you, my brethren, have become like the churches of Aloha which are in Jihud, who are in Jeshu Meshiha, because you likewise suffer from your fellow-country-men, as they also from the Jihudoyee;
15 walikuwa ni Wayahudi ndiyo waliomuua Bwana Yesu pamoja na manabii. Ni Wayahudi ambao walitufukuza tutoke nje. Hawampendezi Mungu na ni maadui kwa watu wote.
who killed our Lord Jeshu Meshiha, and the prophets who were of them, and ourselves have persecuted, and Aloha have not pleased,
16 Walituzuia tusiseme na Mataifa ili wapate kuokolewa. Matokeo yake ni kwamba wanaendelea na dhambi zao. Mwisho ghadhabu imekuja juu yao.
and have acted adversely to all men; who forbid us to speak with the Gentiles that they might be saved; to fill up their sins for all time: but upon them cometh the wrath unto the end!
17 Sisi, ndugu, tulikuwa tumetengana nanyi kwa muda mfupi, kimwili, si katika roho. Tulifanya kwa uwezo wetu na kwa shauku kuu kuona nyuso zenu.
BUT we, my brethren, having been bereaved-ones of you the time of an hour, as to our presence, but not in our heart, have been the more solicitous to see your faces with great love,
18 Kwa kuwa tulitaka kuja kwenu, mimi Paulo, kwa mara moja na mara nyingine, lakini shetani alituzuia.
and have wished to come to you (even) I, Paulos, one time and two; but Satana hindered me.
19 Kwa kuwa kujiamini kwetu ni nini kwa baadaye, au furaha, au taji ya kujivunia mbele za Bwana wetu Yesu wakati wa kuja kwake? Je si ninyi zaidi kama walivyo wengine?
For what is our hope and our joy, and the crown of our glorying, but you, before our Lord Jeshu at his coming?
20 Kwa kuwa ninyi ni utukufu na furaha yetu.
For you are our glory and our joy.
